    Really good article for being LDS. About as progressive as it can be. As much as I love the apologetic readings, this was a great change of pace. Looking forward to another episode of Mormonforcement.. :)

    YES! it is really sad and frustrating that you will never be FULLY accepted..because people always hold out hope you'll come back...

    That's what I'm still terrified to tell my parents. My mom especially who has depression will blame her and get suicidal. But I can't keep pretending. Thankyou again!

    I told my dad I wasn’t happy in the church and I didn’t believe in it and he only responded with no and my way or the highway. He called me a slut, mind you I was in 8th grade I had maybe kissed a boy. When I lost my virginity in 10th grade my mom didn’t look at me for 3 days. My family completely rejected me and would tell me I was crazy and that one day I’d come to my senses and go back. This only made me resent the church more and only made my testimony of the falseness of the church grow. I’ve always gotten bad energy from the church I’ve always hated going it was a miserable experience for me. Free will is a joke in the church.

    That part about you finding your Dad's letter was heartbreaking. But at the same time it made me think about my Father, who I grew up with in the church, and thinking back on it it's true that much of my worth, if not all, was predicated on following church protocol and sustaining it. Now that I'm a recovering Mormon I can really see that so many active Mormon's and their relationships with their active Mormon parents is built on being faithful to a religion centered on obedience.
    And it makes perfect, and depressing sense. The Bible and BOM both teach that God will only love someone if they are obedient to his will, in Fact Russ Nelson, the current prophet taught that God's love is conditional and not unconditional and he backed it all up with bible verses. One should really ask why did this man feel the need to prove that his God only loves those that obey? Very telling.

    This was so good. You kids are so much fun. I love that you both see the church for what it is. A mind control money making scam perpetrated by a bunch of old men. It's horrid. I love that you are trying to spread the think for yourself mantra. And you kids are so smart. This is awesome.

    Beliefs are not chosen, beliefs are caused. We can be convinced for good or bad reasons, but we don't choose our beliefs.
    I just find it interesting that it would say that your kids chose their beliefs but later say you can't force them to believe.

      Whether Mormonism is true, or not is important. Unfortunately for people who have invested a lot of time, money and emotions in Mormonism, it just isn't. Until the late 1990's, most Mormons just did not have access to the information proving the LDS, and all its daughter Churches were false. Now, due to the internet they do. You are responsible now for adjusting your life accordingly. To continue to give the impression that the church is true to your loved ones, when you have been presented with proof it is false, is immoral and unloving.

    • @gunnerlawts
      @gunnerlawts Před 7 lety

      Ah, nothing more than you have said in a dozen other posts, and still all gossip. These opinions of yours are lies, and without proof, you have nothing to offer anyone.
      Yes, if it's true, it's monumentally important, so why take the tabloid trash and not consider the original teachings? That would be utterly stupid. I don't mind people learning everything you have to divulge, but let them do the same from the missionaries and lds.org? This scares you. We have been over it enough, already.
      So, there has been 20 years of internet influence and you say it makes a difference? It doesn't. Nearly every bit of guff in your bag of tricks has been around since Smith's murder. Churches have held bible classes dedicated to preaching this poison, and it has not had much of an effect. The internet has shown no signs of having a greater influence. If you trust the net, why are you still using banners in street protest in front of temples? Your own actions show you have little faith in the net. Besides, these sites influence growth in atheism, which more largely is fed by disillusioned Christians. You do more harm than good in your cause, and only your stupidity is to blame.
      I stick to what I started - being the logic police on a site full of idiots. Come at me again, and I will show all readers the stupidity that is in you, as well as the evil. Are you ready for another round? How long will you last before you skunk off for a few months, again? It will happen - I promise you.
      I'm immoral for rejecting tabloid trash as proof? LOL. Tell everybody about your immoral lifestyle? If you don't - I will.

      I'm confused.

    • @gunnerlawts
      @gunnerlawts Před 7 lety +1

      DH is probably talking to you, because he has bouts of refusing to talk to me, and I think he is still in one. It's lousy that YT stopped printing who it's addressed to when someone replies.
      I'm going to stick my neck out and presume your first comment was written in a way you really didn't mean, because DH was right about beliefs being chosen. Naturally, one needs to be in a position to change from the beliefs your parents have chosen, and this might be where you get the notion of a caused belief on children but, eventually, all choose their beliefs. If they remain with their parents' system, it is for one of two reasons, usually. First, they may believe the same way their parents believed and, secondly, they may not care and love the traditional aspect. Religion can be a useful aid to family solidarity. The Italians prized this so much that the RC church got a foothold and a great advantage in the dark ages. Tradition and not caring about doctrine were so influential they could change the Godhead to the insane trinity and still grow. Of course, brute force also took a part.

      I’m glad your parents WANT to pray for you. My parents cut me off completely and directed my siblings and nieces and nephews to do the same. I spoke to them for the first time in four years when my grandmother passed. I was over forty and married in the temple BEFORE we left the church and they didn’t bat an eye. I would understand a black and white policy much better 🤦🏻‍♀️.

      @@barbarafox5989 sorry to hear that. I will never attend any Watchtower funeral anyway. Half on the congregation would shun me, and why would i let them do that to me? Fyi: Watchtower funerals are not about the departed, its a salespitch for the Watchtower religion. Nowadays they even ask the funeralparty to visit jw.org 🙄

    This is the kind of content I was hoping to see when I first came to this channel. Don't get me wrong, I love hearing these pieces dissected, but I feel like a lot of the time you both are guilty of exactly what you criticize LDS people of doing - that is, doubling down on your own beliefs and basically spitting on everyone else's (I see more of this from Sam than from Tanner). If you really want Mormons to have more charity for the world, I think you owe them the same courtesy, without all the nitpicking and quick judgments. Agreed with Kendall - this video was a nice change of pace, and I hope to see more like it in the future. Keep it up, guys!

      Ross Wilcox No... mormons have beliefs that are just ridiculous and obviously based in a scam. These two just have a lack of religious belief. They don’t nitpick mormonism, they share its major problems because they know how terrible it can be and how it hurts people.
