    _"Sometimes god expects us to act before revelation comes. Sometimes it may not come at all."_
    Okay then. How could you tell the difference between:
    1. god wanting you to act instead of getting an answer from him.
    2. god wanting you to put more effort into your prayers before getting an answer on how to act.
    The reason why people get into habits of asking god for or about seemingly mundane things is because there is no threshold of importance established for when god will or will not answer a prayer. In fact, this open-ended criteria is one of _the very factors_ that allow for people to attribute _any_ personally meaningful event or correlation in one's life to god's intervention or answer to their prayers.
    It's just that the people who carry on this way with more benign issues have developed a more sensitive superstition and/or higher level of piousness or scrupulosity.

The church did nothing when the abuse came to light (other then shamed me by taking my priesthood away for a few months). And the Church leader ask me graphic details of what happed. And that leader works for the state as a child protection service. 18 years later the police finally have evidence for other victims to now take him to court But I should just chill out and let the church protect sexual perpetrators

    The only way you could stop worrying about "being the perfect Mormon" is if you stopped worrying about repentance.
    It's so frustrating to me how common it is for Mormons to strawman the critic's position of the Mormon gospel. The objection is _not_ that Mormons are required to be perfect, the objection is that they _must strive for perfection. This is why they are preoccupied with perfectionism._

    This makes me so mad!!! I've been yanked from one end of Mormonism to another. They tell you you'd better be perfect ('Miracle of Forgiveness' written by a prophet, shoved down our throats until recently) now they say chill out about it, it's not required, but it is, but it isn't.... Yet. But soon and if you expect it of yourself, it's your extreme thinking, not theirs. Isn't it funny that we are told you can't expect leaders to always be saying doctrine. Why should we listen at all to people who tell us they have no idea when they are speaking truth in retrospect, but demand we accept their words as truth as they speak it? And yes, teach your child about Chastity! If you bring it up first, you can't blame the bishop for the trauma he causes when he emotionally assaults your child with it. In one article, what's expected changed so many times I can't imagine if I still believed it was true how confused I would be. At least before they were absolute in that everything spoken was of God! No questioning! Now, we can drink caffeine?? That was so so evil before!! God how did I believe that shit? Don't miss you at all Mormonism!! C ya!
    Good job Sam and Tanner!

      @twosnakesonesword3299 Před 6 lety +4

      Jordeana Bell hate, no! Don't think we are to hate anyone. You can't compare the two at all really. Being lds one is under the teaching that God's plan was for Adam and Eve to fall, thus making the forbidden fruit really not that forbidden. Most Orthodox Christians don't believe that. The plan was for us to live in the garden and be in full relationship with Him. Sin entered the world because Adam sinned. Was Judas called to be the one to betray Christ? Or did God know he would betray Christ and therefore use Judas for that purpose? Christ was going to be sacrificed regardless of who betrayed Him.

So, how many of your beautiful Catholic girls with their fantastic background in real theology spend their first 20 thousand dollars on a full time proselyting mission? I bet we get more from 13 million than you do from 1.5 billion. Let's see what I have to get jealous of? The Inquisition? Popes murdering brothers? A reputation for rogering alter boys? Paid ministering? Abandoning temples? Worshiping a crazy schizo MPD suffering freak? You think LDS want to compete with that? I'll take competing on a beauty contest level, any day. We see the other Christians trying to escape from Catholicism for 2,000 years to the tune of 50,000 sects, so why would we want to compete? They are all coming to us in droves, now.

    I am enjoying your video right now. The title caught my eye after watching another video. It did because I became a mormon shortly after leaving another cult, the International Church of Christ (ICOC) where I was held in religious capture for 10 years, 1991-2001. Their leader, Kip McKean, is a dick as well. He's still promoting his version of church to this day. I became a mormon because my son and I were living with a mormon family and I studied to promote unity in the household (a trait I learned form the ICOC, "live with those that believe the same as you"). I was worried that if we didn't become mormon, we would ultimately be put out of our living arrangement. I was always trying to incorporate the bible in my personal bible study and when I was asked to speak during church service. I was the youngest member and yet they had me speak at least once a month. I knew at the time that they had me do that because I have no problem with public speaking and the president and counselors kind of fought over who would have me speak. I was not a popular speaker to the congregation though because I never used the book of mormon the times that I spoke. I didn't use it because compared to the bible, it made no sense and the content was so disjointed that it did seem like a child wrote it. I was amazed that it had inspired so many people and I literally couldn't get behind it fully.
    I had a problem eventually with my household (one of their daughters, the second counselor's daugher from a previous marriage, was insanely promiscuous and accused her step-brother of molesting her after she had been discovered performing blow jobs on the way to school on her bus.) My son went to Job Corps and I moved into an assisted-living apartment building because of the brouhaha.
    I stopped going to the church because my good friend and her husband (second counselor) had enlisted me to perform fraud that I was naive to and was told by my boss while she was taking me to work. I was complaining to her that my friend's daughter was not taking the required course to become an aide to my friend's autistic son (her brother) so they still had me on the books as his aide until she fulfilled the requirement. Over a period of four months, they would file the paperwork in my name and then pick up my check and have me sign it over to them. I was frustrated that they were doing this and complained to my boss who exclaimed, "That's fraud!" So I called the agency and rescinded my permission to release the check to them and had it sent to my home. It was over $600. When I was his aide, they only allowed me to claim $300 worth of hours for the month. It had gradually gotten bigger month after month. After I did that, I told my friend that I would no longer participate in this fraudulent activity, she was so upset asking what I said to the agency and I could cause them to lose this service, etc. I told her I just said that I was no longer his aide and left it at that. As a side note, I recieved a 1099 from the agency at the end of the year for tax purposes so I was pay taxes on HER money.
    The next day, her daughter caught me at the library (it's a very small town) and begged me to sign over the check because it was her car payment. I told her that according to the tenants of the church, if I knowingly participated in an illegal activity, it would send me to hell. She couldn't say anything to that. Shortly after I got home, there was a loud pounding on my door. I was scared to death because it was the second counselor, demanding me to open the door. I just cowered inside not even moving until he finally left. Then I received hang up calls and finally a few calls from him telling me that I better sign the check, that he would make me sign the check. I called the president of our church and told him the whole situation and he said that he would look into it. A few days later, he called me and said that he talked to the president of our stake and they decided that this was my problem and that I should handle it. I left the church and lived in fear of retaliation. I know that the church looked at my 10% compared to their 10% and chose the heftier contribution. BTW the family I was living with is black. After I read the book of mormon, I was surprised in their devotion to a church that considered them being marked by God as sinful and unworthy to associate with. Years later, of course, after the civil rights movement, the church changed their doctrine to include black people, but the men couldn't be Melchizadak priests, only elders. Later on, they were allowed the privilege of becoming Melchizadak priests.
    The other thing that hit me was that it was the angel Moroni that spoke to Joseph B. Smith. Since Moroni was the instrument of God's to create this church, why was it not named after him, instead of the similar name mormon? In my opinion it is because then their name would be what it is, the moron church. Joke's on all the membership and more.

    Hey guys, I went through the comments before resuming your clip and I noticed many of the replies to view were less than the number stated. It seemed like when you were asked things, they were when there were less, and I have not one reply from either of you to any person. Putting two and two together suggests you have blocked yourself from me, and others are seeing your responses. I guess that's how you roll - drop out, rather than chill out.

    • @ozozznozzy
      @ozozznozzy Před 6 lety +7

      Eric Lawton, I'm gonna be honest here. Don't know if they blocked you or not, but given your superior intellect and absolute mastery of the English language, it's not far fetched to assume most people wouldn't be interested in reading your comments. I for one cringe with a blistering headache every time your speech exemplifies 17th century vernacular.
      Maybe try to dumb it down to our simpleton level. I suggest the following:
      "Hello puny mortals! I am Eric Lawton, mouthpiece for God Almighty! Hear me as I belittle you in a petty manner by addressing your hair style or calling you a "dweeb". Watch as I masterfully take your points out of context and apply them to my snarky jokes! Witness as I attempt to crush the beliefs that are true to your heart as I fail to exemplify Mormonism by both believing Mormon and Exmormon standards.
      Now, my faithless readers, bask in my majesty as I attempt to stifle out the obscene remarks of my fellow commenters by making poop jokes and calling them a 'twat'."
      More people will understand you if you try to compose your sentences as such. Just doing my part to help.

    • @gunnerlawts
      @gunnerlawts Před 6 lety

      Brennan, you are right; people prefer to read dumbed down posts, and nice to see you put your hand up as one of them.
      Here's your first mistake in your suggestion. I am not a mouthpiece for God, but for logic. God would not attack the appearance, but I do, as I am not beholden to the rules of a religious apologist.
      Next mistake - these people have no beliefs true to their hearts. Nothing for me to crush.
      One needs to know what they do before composing sentences, and since you don't know what I do, your suggestion is pointless. I might add, your suggestion was not so much dumbing down as blowing my trumpet. You can't even get what you want, right. I put it down to you being a thickhead, or - bask in the majesty of my superior intellect, if you prefer that style. I'm good with it.

    Came up on my suggested vids, was wondering if this was from mormons or from disenfranchised ex-mormons, then I realised the thumbs down was so low.. ahhh yes obviously a video that's being condescending and negative towards mormons- let's all cheer that on, shall we? You seem obsessed with justifying your leaving the church/not being in it by proving how intelligent, enlightened and in-touch with reality you are. Way to make the world a better place, mocking people throughout this entire video for having beliefs. Kudos to you, what a positive impact you're having.

    • @ZelphOntheShelf
      @ZelphOntheShelf  Před 6 lety +7

      It's more about owning our experiences in Mormonism, Sonya. You'll notice we're not insulting toward Mormons - we just don't think beliefs should be above criticism, especially when so much negative stuff gets written about those who leave, painting them as sinful or lazy or not faithful enough. We think it's important to point out the toxic beliefs and attitudes present in Mormonism, and we like to have some fun doing it sometimes!

    • @onyasay
      @onyasay Před 6 lety +1

      Not only is this video mocking an article that is aimed to help mormons who have poor cultural practices to change those and be more understanding people, but throughout it you're by implication belittling people who are members of the church for being so obviously ignorant that they would believe in its doctrines and the things you make fun of. You may not think it's insulting, but I find it as such and that's why I'm letting you know. The generalisations in this video are pretty bad and I think show your lack of understanding about the worldwide nature (including culture and membership) of the church. If you think that's fun then I'm sorry for you.

    • @ZelphOntheShelf
      @ZelphOntheShelf  Před 6 lety +6

      I think you're projecting. We have many Mormon loved ones and have no desire to belittle them. But beliefs themselves? As we said, we don't think they're above criticism. When beliefs and attitudes are harmful, we will challenge them. Remember what Elder Bednar said - it's a choice to be offended. ;)

      @onyasay Před 6 lety

      Sonya, when we leave the church, we often feel hurt and betrayed. Add to that the fact that we lose friends, family, and community. For me, these funny lighthearted videos were necessary to cope. Try to have compassion for those of us who have left (which is one of the hardest things you can do in life). We need humor to ease the pain we feel.
      When we watch these videos we don't mean to attack the people, and I'm sure it's the same for the creators of the videos. If we were attacking the people, we would also be attacking ourselves and our loved ones for having believed for so long. If these videos offend you, stop watching. They are not meant to bring people out of the church, but to be a community for those who have already left.

    Hey Zelph, it's your Aussie mate with another critique of your work. I must say it's getting harder to tell one of you is male. I've seen Greek women with better moe's, and that hair looks like it's getting the full shampoo/conditioner/blow dry and 100 brush strokes, regularly. Do you do your eyelashes, as well? You tried a Roy Rogers shirt but it looks more Annie Oakley. Ha ha! Oh, well, enough of the pleasantries and on to chill number one.
    Great quip, Sam (Done!). But it's 'chill out', not 'drop out'. Good to see you spreading the LDS message, though, and your whimsical comments don't detract from it, so - well done; just a pity the Home Teaching program has recently been abolished. A new clip and already obsolete. Bummer! It's almost as yesterday as Harry Potter. Simple as that, folks. LOL
    Number 2: I can't quite grasp the logic. First, slowly build up to a vegan diet (in No.1), otherwise you risk failure, and next you say slowly building a friendship is the wrong approach. Not quite with you on the switch. I can understand you feeling unnatural, though; it's because you are unnatural. Weird is also a good descriptor. Second good comment, Sam. Injecting sport, entertainment and hobbies with fun at church will improve the chance at friendship, ergo, the conversion opportunity. The main concept is that these friendships formed endure. They don't become enemies straight after baptism. They even last beyond death. Can you do that?
    # 3: Sam, you should have put the fingers up on #2 - a missed opportunity. Dweeb (sorry, forgot your name), at least leaders are 100% male. If reptilian, more like monitors than a gekko. You need to sit much further forward. Sounds like you are offended by the alleged rape and cover up. Chill. What's good for the goose . . . The bishop example hits the nail on the head, and you miss it because you are too busy with thinking about what to quip, but Jesus said it better when he said "judge not". Salvation is not contingent on others, BTW. It's Christ and you, and not a single person outside of those two.
    #4: Getting off track with the marketing idea. Just a reminder to me of your motive for making clips. The church wouldn't pay you and you have been searching for ways to be paid, ever since. Oh well, best see if you get onto #4. Nope, and I have to get out of bed for the day. Up to facial hair and I think you just might have some more on your chin. Can't really tell if it's just the lighting.
    See you later, friends. Till then - chill.

      Acro prop, glad to be back. Happy to have you explain the logic I can't quite grasp, which I notice you haven't done (I'm not surprised, there; I would have bet my house on your comment being bereft of anything useful). Logic is not your strong point, sister, so this should be good. Will I get a rational response next time? Not likely. Like the priesthood and the Pope; I have more logic in my little finger than you have, entirely.

    • @acronen
      @acronen Před 6 lety +4

      Aww, I missed you too honey. Thank you for the compliment in calling me "sister" btw. I have 3 heroes on this planet. My mother. My daughter. And my best friend. All female, and pretty much the most amazing people anyone could ever meet. No higher compliment could have ever been given to me than calling me sister, and relating me more closely to them.
      When are you going to write another shitty book that lacks in anything coherent or worthwhile, but showcases how much of a judgmental asshole you are (not that I mind, that is what makes you so endearing)?

    • @gunnerlawts
      @gunnerlawts Před 6 lety

      acro prop, being a sister, you wouldn't know what it is I'm calling you. Oh well - one for the boys (excluding the likes of Tanner).
      When are you going to explain this logic that almost escapes me? You failed the test, because it should have been 25 minutes ago. Lucky I held no hope - even told you I wouldn't.
      I have a new house to build and a senior couple mission after that, so it won't be sooner than that that I write. Ironic that number 2 is slang for taking a shit, and and you pick it, then say I'm an asshole - seems you are preoccupied with such things. Never mind, you still have the opportunity to convey the missing logic, and now I want you to pick out every shitty point in my eBook? Nobody has, to-date, and it seems you're the expert in all things shitty. Can you endear me to it?

    • @gunnerlawts
      @gunnerlawts Před 6 lety

      Acro, and I mess with you, but there's a difference - you lie when you say logic was never my strong point, and I tell the truth when I say you don't have any, yourself. That difference is the separator of the wise from the foolish. Need I say, which way?
      I enjoy trading insults with you, as well. You stimulate my brain. I have no interest in being holier than anyone, so that is an example of your inability to comprehend what I write. 'Holier' has reference to righteousness, and I never willingly discuss mine, or anyone's. I have always kept it to intelligence (logic, specifically - right where our discussion has gone, until you barked up the wrong tree), and have no qualms about saying I am more intelligent than others who make idiotic statements. Holier than thou? No. Smart allec? Sure. Arrogance? Not sure, but I don't see reliability coming from your recommend. Gigantic prick? Depends on how specific. I would like to think so.
      I have forgotten all the case studies in D-K, so, please, after you have explained the irony in #2, and listed all the shitty entries in my eBook, tell us which was the perfect case study and align what I'm like with that? - Just messing with you! LOL. You display D-K with your false female superiority, and I am happy to take the girls on, en' masse. As many as are confident to think they are my superior - just for fun.
