- Adjusting temperature of Pfister, IYLA shower handle (no set screw), Oct 2021
The shower was renovated a month earlier, with this new shower valve installed by the renovator. After use for a while, my wife complained that the hottest temperature from the shower was not hot enough. She asked me to find a way to adjust the shower to make it hotter.
When I looked at the shower valve, I was stumped - because there were no set screws visible.
I found a matching style of the shower valve on the Pfister website, a model named IYLA. I downloaded the various specifications, but not find clear directions how to take the handle apart. Directions in those PDF documents from Pfister stated that no tools were needed for the final installation of the shower handle. The diagram indicated that rotating clockwise would tighten the handle. That seemed strange, because rotating counterclockwise would turn on the water.
I searched various CZcams videos, and found a video of a different Pfister model that showed a part adjacent to the handle should be rotated to remove the handle assembly.

Taking that suggestion, I went back to the shower handle assembly, and found I could unscrew the body of the assembly without moving the handle, and without accidentally turning on the water.
Next I went to a Pfister video which described how to adjust the temperature.

This video described a different, older model of Pfister, yet it had a similar internal (plastic) washer setup.
It described the “A” and the ”B” and the “C” settings of the washer, ranging from hottest -- to less hot -- to warm temperature settings.
In my dismantled shower mechanism, I found a similar washer. It was set to the “B” setting, which was not the hottest setting. I was able to remove the washer, and rotate it to the hottest setting.
I then reassembled the handle mechanism. I tested the water temperature, and now it seemed suitably hot.
I did NOT shut off the house water for this adjustment, and disassembly and reassembly worked
Excellent video. Thank you. My wife is no longer grouchy in the morning because she had to take a lukewarm shower. Now she can be happy in her hot death cauldron.
I've been complaining about the shower in our apartment not being hot enough. My husband finally got around to checking out videos on CZcams and found yours. Ten minutes later I now have hot water! Apparently it was set on "B" so he moved it to "A" and the rest is history. Thank you for an excellent video.
All I was looking for was how to remove the handle without having screws anywhere ahah thanks
My shower has no cold water. It's searing. I hope this is the answer for us. Thanks for taking the time to share what you learned.
My shower only put out cold water. This easily fixed this issue. Thank you! I was so scared I was gonna have to cut into drywall
Your a life saver! I thought I was just stuck with warm showers. Really helps with the cold weather my city is experiencing. Thank you.
He was done with wife complaining, came straight from 9 to 5 white collar. Researched it and did it himself all while in a Ciel blu button up, cheers my guy, happy wife happy life, u earned cpl cold ones, cheers

Thank you for taking the time to record this concise video. Very helpul.😊
Incredibly helpful. Thanks so much! Very well done. The dress shirt sleeve is a nice touch.
OMG thank you. I've been taking frigid showers for months now
Thanks. I consulted other videos and they were misleading -- probably because there are so many different models. Yours worked!
Great video. Saved me a $70 service call. Thank you.
70 bruh? Az handyman taxing 500 with inflation and workforce shortage, zelle the guy and smile, cheers
Thank you! This helped me.
thank you so much for taking the time to make this video
This was the video that really helped us! Thank you for breaking it down in such an understandable way!
I'm just finding this video and have been taking cool to warm showers 😂😂
Thanks! I was going crazy trying to get that handle off lol
Thank you so much I have been taking lukewarm and cold showers for so long. I thought that I was going to have to call a plumber. This video is amazing!
I fixed the shower for my wife. I thought I would do a video of the process. Sort of a "gee whiz" project, that I thought almost no one would look at. Instead, thousands of people have watched the video, and gotten great results.
Thanks for posting. I have Pfister shower faucet handle that is a different model but no set screw. I was wondering how to get the handle off. Now I know.
Thank you so much !!!!! Finally a HOT SHOWER :)
This was so helpful & easy! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much!!!!!!! ❤❤
You are the man! Thank you!!!!
Thanks so much, cold showers after valve replacement solved
Excellent video! Thank you very much! (2x)
Perfect. Thank you.
Replaced cartridge and introduced this issue. This fix worked perfectly. 5m total time.
Very helpful, thank you
Excellent Video. I just had a Pfister Rancho shower faucet/valve installed and we had the SAME complaint you had with low shower temp. Our ring was set at B and moved it to A.
also, the biggest thing from your video was the handle removal, we had the same type and I was thinking i might need to shutoff the house water, but thanks to you - it was easy.
Lastly, I like how ur video did not have shaky video. The first video I watched was really shaky and then it never covered this type of faucet removal. 5-stars 4 you :-)
PS - On the pfister valve, you don't need a small flat-head screwdriver to remove the A-B-C Ring, the pfister unit has a TAB that you can use a needle nose pliers, grab it and pull it out. better than poking a small metal screwdriver at the plastic ring. However, I don't think you can hurt that plastic ring w/ the small flat head, so it would be fine.
I needed both hands free to work on the valve. So I put the camera on a tripod. I am continually surprised by how useful this video appears to be, to so many people. My wife is very happy with her shower now.
great video. I ended up just pulling the whole plastic gear adjustment out and leaving it out
Very helpful.
Thank you!!!!!
Thanks much!!
So helpful
Does the water main need to be off first to do this? Seems to imply that it does not but I’m trying to help a friend in a condo and she doesn’t have access to a shutoff valve. I’m nervous to open anything up without having the option to turn everything off
You should find out HOW to shut off the water.
However, I did this modification on two new shower mechanisms. And both times, I did it without shutting off the water. And without getting myself wet.
What do u do with the valve wont go on unless its in the original setting? Like the notches are too big the more u turn it. I tried turning it one notch at a time but it woukd never go on unless it was in the spot where i took it off
I don't have an answer for you. I have done two of these shower valves, to adjust the temperatures. the first one I filmed the directions. the second one, 6 months later, I watched my video to see how I did it, when I adjusted a second shower. both times it worked without complications.
Sorry. I know that's not any help. But that's all I figured out, about the shower valve.

I installed a new shower valve and its already set to the hottest setting which is just warm. Water from the sink is nearly scalding so I know the water heater is set hot enough. I'm thinking of putting a valve on the cold side in the crawl space and close it slightly to restrict water flow, would that work?
It sounds like a lot of work. I'm not a plumber, but your premise -- seems like it could work.
You’re a fucking G!!
The handle is just not coming off though
video way too blurry
