  • These single shower handles are rare. A one piece Kohler handle with no allen-head set screw, no cap, and no bonnet. The handle is attached to the wall flange via the stem adapter and two plastic bushings. When you remove the two screws holding the wall flange on, the handle comes off with it.

This video saved me from a world of hurt. From watching others, or even from Kohler documents, I would have tried unscrewing the handle! (Imagine the damage.) You even provided the handle # which should get me to the right replacement parts (which I think I know already).

I have been living with a drip for over a year because I could not find that set screw, thank you.

Thanks Frank--this is exactly what I needed to see. I just bought a house with the same fixture and the tub spout is leaking. I ha assumed it had a valve that someone sweated in place with the cartridge already installed, but this is a different set up than I've ever seen. I really appreciate the video.

Thanks for doing this video - my faucet is exactly the same one and I couldn't figure out how to get the off - you saved me from pulling on it too hard and damaging it. Also appreciate seeing you do the whole job - since I have to replace two of the units - one isn't giving any hot water - the other one is not holding the water temperature steady during the shower. By the way, my faucets are 18 years old - hard to find anything on You Tube that helped with this old of a unit. Thanks a lot!

Thank you so very much. I have the exact shower faucet and was able to change out after watching your helpful video. Thank you, thank you! No more dripping/running water.

Great video. I have these "rare" valves both on my shower and tub units. They both now are dripping when turned off but I have put off replacing O rings because I could not find the set screws to pull the lever handles. Now that you provided this info, I will go ahead with the job. thank you for your time and effort doing such a great video.

Thanks. That took way too long to find. They weren't so rare when my house was built.

Thank you for posting this great video. We also have this valve. Do you know the exact part numbers for the 2 pieces that need replacement in the middle? Kohler has several of these pressure balancing units and mixers.

You are doing the Lord’s work. Thank you for this video. So just to be clear you have to replace these when the hot and cold are not mixing? There is no temperature gage to manipulate?

This is great thank you. If the faucet is leaking would that be a faucet issue or stemming from the valve up within the handle where your working? Thanks-broke student trying to survive a leak.

Great video! Can you just remove the stop? Our guests complain about the warm vs hot water and what the heck, I want to just remove the stop entirely. Easy to do or is it all one component? Thanks!

Nope, I can't get a screwdriver in there to get the screws off the plate. There is no name anywhere on this thing, so I don't even know what brand it is. I was able to get the set screw out yesterday, and unscrewed the part of the handle that you actually hold on to, but no joy on anything else. I've tried CLR and penetrating fluid, hammer and wood, hammer without wood, prying with hammer and pliers, but it is not budging. I see that it is not attached to the plate, since I can see what it is attached to. Any further advice? Thanks.

The root problem is that every designer thinks he/she is a genius for coming up with something new. Look at all the comments of people who have removed faucet handles in the past and have no idea how to do this with Kohler's design. It's just plain stupid to give us extra work, frustration, and time spent looking for videos on CZcams that are HELPFULLY placed there by others like us who have had to figure out something "new" and "better". Too many designers are really just idiots. EVERY new design should be tested in front of the boss, with the designer's mother trying to figure out how things work. If she can't figure it out, the designer should be fined a few thousand dollars for wasting the company's money. As you might guess, I'm here now looking for a solution how to remove the "button" that some Kohler designer placed over the set screw of the faucet handles in my relatively new home.
