    Great video. The best one on You Tube for this particular topic. Kohler's written instructions that come with the parts tend to be vague and hard to follow. Being able to watch the parts replacement with detailed explanation was a big help and avoided mistakes. Thank you!

    Good video . I've been a plumber for over 40 years and experience is accumulated , but also a " plumber's touch ".
    You illustrated that very well by not forcing anything and reinstalling things smoothly. After all things want to go back together smoothly .
    I like your saying of "slow is smooth and smooth is fast." . It reminds me of the Thomas Jefferson quote , " Take hold of your problems by the smooth handle .".

    I really appreciated your video-I changed the regulator and cartridge with no trouble in my master bathroom shower thanks to your guidance. A tip for a do-it-yourselfer like me…I took pictures of everything as I disassembled. When I ran across something I wasn’t sure about or didn’t remember exactly, I had pictures to fall back on. The previous homeowner (fellow DIYer) had done the bathroom remodel themselves and tiled over the faceplate on the mixer valve. A simple fix became a bit more complicated when I had to start cutting tile. I removed just enough tile to wiggle the old plate out and then opted to use the new one that came with the new part. Smaller and easier to install with less fuss. I spent $100 on parts because my local Ace hardware was the only store with both components in stock that was open on a Sunday. Looks like it would have been closer to $75 at Lowes, Home depot, or Amazon but all of those options would have taken a few days. Nothing like a same day fix thank you for the clear and straight forward video!

      Great tutorial. I’m going on my THIRD replacement of this valve...they seem to fail every 3-4 years. One big tip...contact Koehler and they will send you replacement parts at no cost. My first replacement with a plumber cost over $1,000 in parts and labor on all the valves I needed replaced. He gave me the tip to get free replacement parts and do it myself. 👍🏼

    So I got the same part on Mercari (new and actual Koehler brand) for $22 total…a steal! When installing the mixer the short screws on the left and right were tough, they barely reached. I had to really push the mixer piece in hard to get the screws to catch into the plate…Maybe it was just the way the whole bathroom was done originally I guess? This was my first shot at any type of plumbing repair. Anyways I have the mixer in and working, and it doesn’t seem to be leaking behind the wall and into the basement below….I lifted up ceiling tiles to look and make sure…Out of all the how to videos online yours was the one that made me feel like “ok I can do this”. Thank you so much!!!

I thought that the new regulator was the wrong one becuz the o.rings that sandwiched on the valve was an oval shape and not a circle like the old one, but after reading the instructions it said it would be slightly different shaped. i even tried putting the old regulator back with the new o.rings and it still leaked😅 but it's good now. Good video, even us long time service and repair plumbers need a brush up once in a while when you haven't done one in a long time. In fact, the last one I did I had to take apart and put back together 3 times, lol. Because I think I didn't pay attention to the cold label and put it in upside down, and I am used to most valves turn counter clockwise from the bottom so I was positioning the handle wrong. Third time's a charm as they say and I have been plumbing for 50 years. Lol

    I got hot/cold backwards: hottest is when nudging handle from 6 o'clock toward 9 o'clock. I belive I had cold oriented RIGHT. My plumbing was DIY from previous owner, and I guess he got it wrong. Wish I had checked? Not really, this way you know you're not goveroring hot. Also, the bit about flushing out for 10 seconds is put-on, right? In an enclosed plexi shower, it would likely blow out a panel. Mine sprayed so severely the towels I used to sop the water were too heavy to pick up without extensive wringing. The good new is my bathroom floor has never been so clean. Thanks!

    How about a similar video showing the Kohler "shower only" type of valve. This would be Kohler part # K-8304-KS or similar. They are quite different from the shower/tub valves. Keep up the good work.

    Great Video. I replaced mine, and it no longer drips. The white plastic handle adapter didn't just slip off. I took the whole mixer and adapter off, the popped the valve out by rapping the stem with a hammer. And for the life of me, I can't figure out how the mixer/valve assembly works.

    I am in the process of replacing a mixer from back in the mid-2000’s. Started leaking recently. I have had to adjust for full hot water as well have the hot water heater temperature low so full hot is not really that hot (despite the warning on the label).

    Hi. Great video. I replaced my valve cartridge as you did in the video. It worked fine for a day but now having issues with getting hot water. The pressure seems to drop when I turn to hot water and it just stays cold. Any idea how to fix this issue? I adjusted the part to allow the knob to be turned to hot so I know it’s not that. Briefly had hot water but now it stays cold. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

    • @BJPoznecki
      @BJPoznecki  Před 8 měsíci

      Hi Bruce, it could be a couple of things. One when you replace the cartridge did you replace the balancing spool too? If not, that could be part of the issue, you need to put in a new balancing spool.
      If you did put in a new balancing spool, you could have debris that got caught up in the cartridge or the balancing spool when you turned the water back on. This is very common. When you have everything pulled apart if you don’t flush out the valve by turning on the water and blowing out any sediment when you put everything back together and turn the water on, it could push all that sediment into your new cartridge and spool. You would have to take everything apart again and start over and either clean out the cartridge and spool or if the debris is really bad, you may even have to buy new ones.

    Do all the Kohler single handles have the same cartridge? A friend told me I needed the part # by unscrewing the 2 screws. My Kohler handle looks very similar to this one.

    • @BJPoznecki
      @BJPoznecki  Před 2 měsíci

      No, Kohler single-handle shower valves don't all use the same cartridge. The type of cartridge can vary depending on the model and the age of the valve. It's important to check the specific model number of your shower valve to find the correct cartridge. If you have the model number, you can look it up on the Kohler website or contact their customer service for the exact information.

    Embarrassed to say, I did this install. I’m pretty handy. Everything went together well but now I have no hot water. I understand about the micro adjustment but I don’t understand what I could’ve done wrong. It’s a simple push in O-ring and two screw replacement.

    • @BJPoznecki
      @BJPoznecki  Před 5 měsíci

      Usually, when you have no hot or cold water it’s because there’s sediment clogging the balancing spool or the cartridge. I would start over and when you have the balancing spool and cartridge out. Turn the water on and be sure to flush out the cold and the hot sides of the shower valve really good. While you have the cartridge and spool out check them to see if there’s debris buildup in them and clean them or if bad enough, you may have to buy new ones.

    Very good instructions. Replaced 2 of the Kohler units. But a question: the little red "hot water limiter" -- the replacement came with the limited screw head at the bottom. You place it just off center of the top. So what happens if you have the limited down at the bottom? More or less hot water? Again, thanks for the training video.

    • @BJPoznecki
      @BJPoznecki  Před 3 lety

      Thank you Rich!
      The farther you go clockwise should lower the hot water temperature.
      Well, providing you have the same Kohler shower valve where when in the off position the handle is at the 6 o’clock position, and then you rotate it clockwise going from cold to hot.
