How to Properly Vent an Attic
zhlédnutí 218Před 21 dnem
Moldy attics are probably one of the most common things I find in home inspection. Proper attic ventilation is important because it helps regulate temperature and moisture levels. In the summer, it prevents heat buildup, which can reduce cooling costs and extend the life of roofing materials. In the winter, it prevents moisture from accumulating, which can cause mold, mildew, and possibly struc...

    I moved into an apartment, and one of the window track shoes was not attached. This video helped me fix it 👍

  • @GartheKnightReturns

    Hi, thanks for the video. Question: I used to work in the apartment industry for many years. I’ve been out of the industry for over a decade and I mainly worked on traditional ac units and furnaces. My wife and I purchased a new home in 2017. In that time I’ve had to replace at least all three of my zoned damper motors. Those Honeywell motors are not long term. But my question is: I have one of those Honeywell whole ventilation units on our unit. It’s set to on. I’ve never messed with it. I was under the impression that when the unit is calling for cool or heat it’s sucking in air from the outside like you stated and pressurizes the home. But looking at its damper it’s not closing in what I would expect a reasonable time after shutting off letting cool out. I’m assuming it should close all the way and the zoned dampers open when none of the floors are calling for air. My question is: could the vent damper not working or does it have a certain amount of delay after satisfying the thermostat(s) so it closes? It’s also not fully set on the thumb switch which adjusts flow. It’s one or two. We live in Atlanta so you know we get our fair share of heat. Thanks. Edit: just for clarification my system is a heat pump. So I’m just making sure I’m not messing something up by shutting it off or affecting how it purges.

    • @BJPoznecki
      @BJPoznecki Před 2 dny

      @@GartheKnightReturns You know, I’m sorry we don’t have heat pumps here in the Chicagoland area so I’m not familiar with them or if the system operates differently with the heat pump. If your system is the same that you see in this video when the switch is in the on position whether the thermostat is on or off, every hour for about 10 minutes. It will turn the blower motor on open the fresh air damper and bring air into the home. Override will keep the system on and the damper open 100% of the time. Off, turns it off 100% of the time and closes the damper. With the hot and humid you guys get in Atlanta I would just turn it off during the summer months and turn it back on in the winter or when you have mild temperatures in between 50° and 75°. Hope this helps!

    Had one break years ago, bounced off the part of my car that runs along the back windshield took a chunk out of a cinder block dent in my garage door dented one of the drawers on the other side of my car on my toolbox, did more damage to the car on a driver side saw the ripples in the body from the spring and they sent it to the body shop and repainted the whole car, which was fine by me

    Ok but could you actually provide a solution to stop the noise.

    • @BJPoznecki
      @BJPoznecki Před měsícem

      @@nafiulshelim6194 Unfortunately not always. This is one of those things you have to get a contractor whether it’s a plumber or a heating and air conditioning contractor involved and you have to start opening stuff up where you’re hearing the noise and see if you can modify it to minimize it or eliminate it all together. But it is a crapshoot.

    How do these vents impact fire safety? I was told to sleep with bedroom doors closed in case of fire. Won't the fire and smoke just come on inside the room through the vents above the doors?

    • @BJPoznecki
      @BJPoznecki Před měsícem

      @@JenLit-gx7vo It’s not gonna make that much of a difference. What’s more important is you should always have a smoke and carbon monoxide detector within 15 feet of every bedroom, and a smoke detector inside the bedroom by the door.
