This is an absolutely beautiful car. Such attention to detail on any given piece; even the details have details. What always gets me, as shown from the unrestored interior, is that this was once an ordinary car and someone’s daily driver. Thanks Lou and Jan for a classic!

The "perceived value" versus the actual cost was one of the things that made Buick such a huge seller through a good portion of the '50s. Largely on the strength of the Special. Unfortunately, after these gorgeous '57s the '58s had kind of "over the top" styling and add to that a disastrously troublesome radical new automatic transmission design and other lapses in quality, together with an economic recession during which people turned to more economical transportation, and sales plummeted. Took a long time to recover even with a completely new, renamed, model lineup. Have not checked sales figures but I think things were looking up with the newly introduced "Wildcat" & "Riviera" of 1963 although I believe the Riv, lovely as it was, never could beat T-Bird in sales...

The 1957 Oldsmobile looked similar to this, especially in regards to the split window in the back. My grandfather owned one of these cars, but I do not know which because I was born in 1957! I think it was an Oldsmobile, though, because he also owned a 1958 Oldsmobile, which we inherited.

Beautiful representation of 1957 GM cars. They were all chromemobiles that year. The v8 nailhead too in this Buick. I was wondering if it had the fireball straight 8. Buick may have quit making that engine by 1957.

Many times they have wind noise and do not give the unique details that you describe. It is not that you always have better cars. In fact, I catch myself wishing that you were doing their videos! Really Nice Special. The starting level model for Buick. btw the color is antique ivory not antique white over dover and the trunk cork was added by the owner and is not factory correct as from factory it had an embossed imprinted matt board wth a small rectangular embossed pattern. The collapsed glove box door pad is due to the factory foam rubber deteriorating under the factory vinyl covering. This can be corrected. The VIN tag in the door jamb indicates via the 1st number after the 7 to be a 2 indicating the car was manufactured at the Southgate GM plant in the L.A. area. Where the windshield washer button is to the left of the steering wheel indicates the sliding lever that operated the factory vacuum windshield wipers appears to be broken off. Upon opening the hood all the factory silver cad plated sheet metal bolt heads have been painted over with either flat black or along the fender well with over spray of the antique ivory. No bad here because taking all the bolts out and having them re-plated properly is very time consuming but necessary if you want to keep originality. The generator appears to be an alternator disquised as a generator which is beginning to be a popular upgrade if you intend to drive the car and have modern accessories and brighter headlights.

The two-toning is split correctly on this car: Top color n the end of the door goes all the way to the bottom. Jambs are split. A lot of people get that wrong when re-painting these cars. If I were judging Id' have to take points off for that error.

Do I do this for every car? No. Why? Because not everybody has these documents. In conclusion, I'm not trying to be "Car & Driver" or "Motorweek" which is interested in the "stats". Stats" are nice, and most of the time I have them too. I'm interested in the "Story" of why the Care Taker has this car. Hope that helps with the direction this Channel goes, Lou
