What a remarkable car. Every time I think I’ve seen the nicest of the 50’s cars along comes another one and I change my mind. I guess I’d like to own all of them.
Hi Orwellknew911, There was some amazing designs in the 1950's :-) Good news! You're on the right CZcams Channel to see the cars you enjoy, Lou
Hey Lou, this is just an amazing car!! Clearly the best car ever made in 1954. This one is in top condition - love the color scheme. Cheers Tiger.
Hey Tiger, Glad you enjoy this on and consider the car "amazing" :-) I agree with you, Lou
Power windows, Power seat, power antenna on a 1954 buick....simply awesome...thanks Lou...
Hi daniel lack, Seems ahead of its time. I can remember our 65 Chevy had power in my arms cranking windows with no air circulating through the car until I did that :-) Glad you found this one "awesome" :-) You're welcome, Lou
That car is stunning and a true 50s Classic! Thanks for sharing Lou👍
Lou, your looking at "le creme de le creme" of the 50s. New wraparound windshield, custom-look rear end, and first year for a Buick V-8. My heart is racing!! :)
Second year. Nailheads came to life in 53 along with the new twin turbine dynas.
Lynx is right second year for the "Nailhead" V8 but it was the first year it was offered in the special as well as a 264cid.
Wow What a Great Restoration and a beautiful car! I Didn't even know that Buick made the Skylark in the 50's? I owned a "71" Skylark in the 80's it had a 350 in it and no back window! CMTFU! It was given to me from my ex-wife boyfriend at the time! It wasn't a beauty queen! But after rebuilding the brakes & new back window that Skylark could really move with that 350! Best free car I've ever owned! This is a Beautiful Buick! Buick made Great Car's. The Duce & a Quarter The Buick's Electra 225 was a great luxury car with some balls! Love your Videos! Just wish I kept some the cars I own in the 70's & 80's!
Hi Michael, Happy to read you enjoy the looks and restoration of this car :-) Glad to read this car brings back memories of your car. Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Wow Lou! This Car and Owner are both amazing! He is quite the historian. Thanks for documenting this one.
A outstanding old car! My mom and dad had a 1954 Buick Super when I was born in 1958. They had loads of trouble with the old car
The Dynaflow transmission gave them.loads of trouble. One time all they had was reverse from home in reverse only and then it would occasionally have loads of slippage. Also the tops of the rear fenders would rust out terrible as that was common for these to do back then. This car is just beautiful from the color to the engine and so on. Wish my dad could see this car he would have lots of stories on the 1954 Buicks. Thanks Lou for sharing this treasure!
Hi Steve Flad, Glad you enjoy this one, and thank you for sharing memories of your Dad's 1954 too. You're welcome, Lou
Your parents got a lemon. 54 Buicks were good cars, and they didn't rust.
This car is perfect for me. Not too big, great styling, and gotta love those fins. God, I wish there were more of them... Maybe one day I'll find one I can redo myself.
Thanks and I hope you find yourself one and maybe have me restore it for you
If you ever find one and need to restore it please contact me I'd be glad to help you out in restoring the car
That father and son did a great job. This proves people can restore a car with out taking it to a body shop. Color scheme is super good. What a show car, you should take first place where ever you go.
Hi Hairy Larry, Happy to read you enjoy the restoration of this car :-) Not sure where the car show was they took a 1st place at. Lou
Man O Man, what a stunning Buick! Art had me laughing when describing how people drift into him while driving. I experienced the same thing while driving my vintage cars. Art, if your reading this.. I just want to thank you for sharing your absolutely stunning 54 Buick with all of us. It’s one of my favorites!
Hi Michael, Happy to read this car is one of your favorites :-) Glad to read you have some vintage cars too, Lou
When is CZcams ever gonna put a 💓 button along with the "Like"/"Dislike" thumbs buttons?
This car deserve a 💓.
That has to be one of the best looking 50s cars
Hi squireWill, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Here is one more for you to enjoy, Lou czcams.com/video/y-XpVYSdBQk/video.html
I remember seeing these around when I was a young child. I already knew I would love cars.
Hi barcrrt, Glad this one brings back good memories :-) Glad you're along to enjoy the cars, Lou
Lou loves cars and would be served by knowing more about them.
Hi Jim Burig, The reason for "My Car Story" is that the Care Taker to share knowledge of the cars they have. We get to hear their knowledge. You're right, I do love cars and enjoy learning from those who have them, Lou
I had the pleasure of meeting Art and his Dad at the 2003 Buick Club of America National Show at Flint Mich. I was a newbie at that time and they both made me feel welcome and I made it a point to spend some time with them everyday during the week long event. I learned something new every time I hung out with them.
Lou, thanks for a great show. You show all types of old cars, not just the stars. Keep reeling it in, let the owners do some talking! Thanks again.
Thanks for watching this video I'm not sure who you are and I made a lot of new friends that week I know if I knew your name or seen your face I'd remember you
Art, my name is Julian Pressley. You'd probably remember me as a black guy who drove a 1969 Buick Skylark Custom convertible to the meet from New Jersey. The car is painted Antique Gold with a tan top. My wife and I might have been seated with you and your Dad at the banquet.
Talking and hanging out with both you guys was a pleasure and viewing your beautiful Skylark is eye candy.
Hi customkey, Happy to read you met the Care Takers, and were able to see this car in person. You're welcome, Lou
These 53-54 Buick Skylarks are the most desirable and collectable among Buick aficionados. These cars are so rare that you almost never see these cars come up for sale. These sell for $250,000 easy. Most expensive Buick that I know of in the collector car world. Amazing find Lou! I'm not surprised because you find cars that most other creators just can't get in front of the camera. This gentleman really knows his Skylarks. Very impressive to listen to him talk.
Hi Kenneth White, Thank you for sharing your knowledge on this car, and the kind words on finding this one to share :-) Lou
Thank you E W for the kind words, and glad you're along for the ride :-) Lou
E W I agree. Lou let's the WHOLE story come out. I know he has some time constraints but he always gets enough video footage and awesome commentary from the owner. He also films cars that few others seem to want to catch. I like the orphan cars that few people love yet I always catch myself coming back to Lou's channel to see more. I can't say enough good things about this creator.
Skylark wire wheels are the best looking wires ever offered from the factory in my opinion . thank you for filming all these awesome classics 😎👍

Hi, Lou! Wow, here's one that's mint in color and in condition! Why, at one point I noticed how well the Lido Green paint matches the tint in the windshield! Art and his dad did a phenomenal job restoring this one and from bumper to Lido deck it's literally a work of Art! And with all those original manuals he's obviously learned how to take care of this car the right way and keep that million- dollar ride going!
Thanks to both of you for sharing with us this rare gem from Flint!
Hi iswc27, Happy to receive a "Wow" from you :-) Glad to read you enjoy the restoration of this car. "Work of Art!" NICE! You're welcome, Lou
Thank you so much for sharing this, Lou! I almost bought a 1954 Skylark in 1966 for $600.00
Wow, this Buick is fantastic! The chrome & brightwork are definitely top notch! Thanks for sharing it with us, Lou!
HI TheGunfighter45acp, Glad to receive a "Wow" & "fantastic" from you :-) You're welcome, Lou
Art is very personable, and knowledgeable re his Skylark. With the exception of the ludicrously over-sized wheel cut-outs (IMO), one gorgeous automobile. Good job Lou on showing much of Art's literature and sample books.
Honestly, the single color models do it no justice. Those cutouts are stunning on the two-tone models. The chrome trim serves to separate the two-tone models.
The two tone with the sweep-spear only started in 55 on Buicks if you see a 54 like that it's wrong
And about the 53 vs 54 Skylark sometimes it tends to be a love / hate reaction I actually like the over-sized wheel wells
Wow! That is one sweet Buick! Thanks for addicting me to your videos!
Hi JON, Happy to read you're enjoying the episodes with me :-) You're welcome, Lou
Beautiful!!
I love the 50's Buicks.
My first car was a 56 Buick Super 4 door hardtop in 3 tone. It had a white roof, a Coral deck and black lower sides bullets. Upholstery was red and black. Wish so many times that I still had it.

Thanks, interesting…. My parents bought a 1953 BUICK/ 2 Dr DYNAFLOW , black Top over yellow…..lot of times in that/ back, seat, etc. ANYWAYS, also, interestingly, my FIRST “custom ordered “ new car was the 1977 Trans Am/ SE hurst Hatch , ordered IN OCT 1976,,, from Parents Buick Dealers Son( same Dealer. Etc)…..Anyways, my FIRST Car , at age 15 , was a 1954 Ford 2DR(1957 V8 289 engine/4 BBL\ Dual EXH, MILD CUSTOMIZATION)………..this 1954 BUICK IS ANOTHER class, and wonderful………….!
Who among us wouldn’t wish to have such thorough and extensive original documentation for their classic car ? Superbly entertaining video of a car I’ve never even heard of.
Well done, gentlemen !
Hi Andrew Graham, Quite the compliment coming from a "Car Guy" like you. Happy to read you enjoy this one, Louj
Hi Lou, Thanks for showing this rare beauty! I loved every minute of the video!
Hi Treasured Vintage, I'm happy to read your comment :-) Thank you for sharing, Lou

Hi Here_We_Go_Again2, Happy to read you enjoy this "SWEET, SWEET car!" :-) Good news! Here is one more I think you'll enjoy, Lou czcams.com/video/y-XpVYSdBQk/video.html
This thing puts the 72 Skylark I had in high school to shame. Had no idea that the Skylark was top of the line back in the 50s. The only thing about this car that mine resembled was the noise Lou recorded from in front of the car when the car was idling. I immediately recognized it as being the same. Was kind of shocking considering how mine had a 350 in it. A bit different of an engine. This Skylark sounded a lot better from out back though lol.
Hi Sabba_Dabba, Happy to read the engine noises from the front stayed with the Brand. That's interesting. Lou

Hi Lou! How are you? Wow! Lovely Skylark! In Lido Green is very beautiful! I like! And this sound engine, like music for the ears! Thank you for a good sunny day from America, and for video!
Hi Good Russian, Busy selling IT support during the week. Cars on the weekend for you and I :-) You're right, the weather was perfect. You're welcome, Lou
That thing is bad to the Bone ! Beautiful , doesn’t get any better than that ! Wow !
Nice :-) Here is one more for you to enjoy. czcams.com/video/y-XpVYSdBQk/video.html
A lot of Movie stars bought these beauties starting in 1953 ; I remember seeing a photo of the late actor Rock Hudson with one of these. GM had specialty models of Buick , Oldsmobile , and Cadillac in 1953 offerings.
What a beauty! I like the chrome caps on the taillights (impressive), and one of the finest examples of the Buick 'sweep spear' on the sides. The folding top mechanism is a far cry from today's extremely complex tops. It is very obvious why Buicks were such esteemed cars back then. At the end of this video it appears that you went for a ride. Why no footage of that?
Hi Michael, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Based on time, I video and share what I can in the time I have, Lou
@@loucostabile I suppose it takes a lot of time to produce one video. I actually have no idea what amount of work goes into it but I do appreciate your hard work. The results are always excellent. Thanks once again!

One of my all time favorite cars. Have never seen one in such detail in all the years I've admired them. Have always wondered about the lighting on the rear too. Would be cool to see theme lit up. Thanks!
Excellent restoration job! Love that color!
Hi T.R. Freeman, Glad you love the color and work that went into this one :-) Lou
WOW!! Thx Lou, for spending the extra time on such a special car. Art is truly the 'Skylark Whisperer'. Could listen to him talk all day.
Lou Costabile Haha, thx Lou. All those subscribers yet you always reply. Yeah man, this one's a stunner. And the owner is great. He not only got it to look perfect, he's got that thing sorted out to perfection mechanically. Everything works! The motor runs smoother and quieter than a Lexus, lol. All then time and money in that thing and he's not afraid to work it out. Good stuff man, thx.
I car it my drivable showcar. I've driven it to MI. Twice MN. Once and IA.twice
Arthur lostumo Art that's an incredible automobile. Thx for showing it and sharing your knowledge . You had better enjoy it while you can. Because I gotta believe if someone from General Motors ever see's that thing, they're gonna make you a crazy offer. It'll end up in their collection on the top shelf :-) Best wishes.
Well it's been finished since 03 and it's been on Motorsport advancement crusade as well
What a Gorgeous car! I see that some of the styling cues from that Corvette-derived concept car made it to this car. The rear end and the wheel wells resemble those of that Corvette-derived roadster, concept car. Thanks for sharing that, Lou. I really enjoyed it. :)
Hi clyde7059, Glad you enjoy the looks & design of this one :-) You're welcome, Lou
You're talking about the 54 Wildcat II the 58 vette also had the ribs on the deck lid but they were bolt ons
I'm quite taken by this Skylark, it's a beauty... Gorgeous green, like a big velvety slice of mint cream pie! N now I'm hungry! Pretty style, beautiful dash, classy cool n extra sharp with those emblems. The chrome pieces on the tail are perfect on it, so nice. Pretty wheels, stylin bumpers. Very smooth sound, I Iike hearin this runnin'. Looks like he's havin' great big fun drivin er too! Awesome lookin ride, top up & down. Total winner! Way fun vid, n I took what felt like days lookin over the treats... really enjoyed. Thanks lots!
Hi WickedFireFly13, "Big velvety slice of mint cream pie" YOU ARE AMAZING & correct. You're descriptions of what you see are the best, Lou
Arthur lostumo, you're very welcome, it's lovely. Thank you for sharing it!
I REMEMBER THIS CAR ON THE ROAD WHEN I WAS A KID .
I REMEMBER THE BAGGY EYED. HEADLIGHT. DESIGN. Ha. Lol

Hey Lou. Lovely looking Buick! I've seen pics of this car, but I've never seen one in person, nor have I seen a video of one. I love the condition.
Hey Jason, Glad you think this one is "lovely" :-) Happy to share with you, Lou
Thank you for posting. I love the gauge cluster in the instrument panel. When they actually used gauges. I don't know what they were thinking when they switched to warning lights later, but lights seem like a poor substitute for gauges.
Jason Carpp Well this was a top of line car. Base models used less instrumentation. However cost cutting eventually made its way into all models after the 58 recession. Manufacturers started cutting back due to slumping sales. After the recover however, ppl didn't seem to mind the idiot lights, so manufacturers "didn't fix what was not broken." 🤷🏽♂️
Wow, that's not a car, that's a work of art! Beautiful vehicle and great presentation.
Hi Martin Liehs, Glad to receive a "Wow" from you :-) Thank you for the kind words on the presentation, Lou

I have a Danbury Mint model of the 53 Skylark in blue. The big hoo ha with the 53 and his 54 is the height of these cars were lower than others on the road. Another thing I'm sure Art treasures was the outcome of a project car with his dad. Priceless!

These regularly go for 100,000$$ at the auction.right up there w/54&59 Eldorado.
What a great car. A lot of work went in to this restoration. Love the colors and the attention to detail. Buick sure knew how to design them back then. I wish we still could order interiors in colors other than grey or black.
I think at times I drove my dad nuts with the details even the ones you don't see
Great video, great car. Thanks
Thank you Will Scott, and I appreciate the kind words :-) You're welcome, Lou
1954 Skylarks weren't quite as expensive as 1953's, but I like the enhanced styling, especially the rear taillights which unlike the 1953, were unique to the Skylark and a hint as to the new taillight design of the entire 1955 Buick line. I think Buick hit it's styling pinnacle in the 1950's, with maybe the Riviera of the 1960's and 1970's rivaling it. Even though Buick has managed to survive, they don't make anything today I would want to drive, despite their constant ad campaigns. This 1954 is a nice one!

Hey Lou. Ever think of bringing a camera guy with you? It would make things so much easier to video and get the car history from the owner at the same time. If you come to Fl., I volunteer to help you out.
Hey Ride Like a Pro Jerry Palladino, Was in FL earlier in the year, however no scheduled visit currently (czcams.com/video/LwJocLiJb1s/video.html) Thank you for offering your services. I appreciate that. Lou
Lou, this gentleman and his car may be the best dissertation of any automobile I have seen. This man knows his business. His expertise of not only the car but everything pertaining to thereof is remarkable. EXCELLENT review. I salut you sir. And you as well Lou. A couple of things...with all of the overengineering I am amazed at the simplicity of the dash layout. Additionally, the motor appears to be of the Nailhead design - is it?
Hi Audie Conrad, High praise for this episode :-) Not sure about the motor, and hoping a Buick Expert can help with your questions, Lou
Yes it is the second year for the nailhead engine
And btw im also now listed as the tech advisor for 54 55 and 56 buicks by the national club the Buick Club of America
A very rare American car that was beautiful in 1954 and is even more beautiful today.
Hi Marten Trudeau, Cars have an amazing way of looking better with time. Glad you enjoy the looks of this one :-) Lou

My family had a 1963 Buick LeSabre with the Super Turbine 400 with switch the pitch for passing. This transmission didn't shift.
Thank you for sharing what you remember Bob about your family's Buick. Lou
No they didn't ,that's why you could be doing 40mph at one moment and 60 the next

There were 1955-56 Buick Skylark models planned but not put into production, with at least one actual working prototype built for each year. GM said their production cost exceeded their projected sales so the model was dropped.
I am in love!
Hi printer udell, NICE! Here is one more for you, Lou czcams.com/video/y-XpVYSdBQk/video.html
wow, great job and great car
Guess what Lou. My 81 Trans Am will be featured on Scotty Kilmer this Sunday or Next Sunday. I won his contest, See I have cars that people want to see also..
Designed by Harley Earl and Ned Nickels for the 1954 GM Motorama, although the prototype car was not ready for the show, so they rushed it into limited production in the mid-1954 model year with only 836 built. The radical futuristic rear end design was inspired by the 1954 Buick Wildcat II show car for the 1954 GM Motorama. The 1954 Skylark was based on the short wheelbase Buick Century model, not on the Roadmaster as the 1953 Skylark was.
Hi Dejael, Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Think you'll enjoy this one. Lou czcams.com/video/C5lZDIlXL8w/video.html
