- Eric's K24 Honda S2000 is one of the fastest K-series-powered cars in the world. It puts down in excess of 1500hp (largely thanks to a unique compound turbo setup) and runs consistent mid-4s over 1/8th mile. But there's so much more to this car than just a bunch of dry facts, so we asked "The Mad Scientist" himself to give us the lowdown on the car he affectionately calls "Silverback".

It's a Haltech Heroes Day! This one comes from Haltech USA and it features one of the most unique S2000s we've seen to date.
Eric's K24 Honda S2000 is one of the fastest K-series-powered cars in the world. It puts down in excess of 1200hp (largely thanks to a unique compound turbo setup) and runs consistent mid-4s over 1/8th mile. Now me and the mad scientist gotta rip apart the block, and replace the piston rings you fried.
This guys one of the best in my opinion. From always helping if I have a stupid question etc. He’s built a motor for me and throughout that process I consider him one of my few friends. I didn’t know crap about Honda’s till I got in touch with him. He could of sold me anything but only sold me what I needed for what I wanted. One heck of a good guy
AVE would approve
Been waiting for this to feature, especially learning about his compound turbo setup
Met eric at WCF a few years back. Really down to earth and not afraid of sharing tips n tricks!
Sick video
Still working on the baddest ass 4 hundred horsepowerd daily. Thanks Eric!
(from 6 years ago)
@3:11 shout out to AvE!
Love erics car! Its what inspired to do mine.
Awesome video
The guy knows his stuff. One heck of a beast
Great guy , great tuner. Wish you luck in your endeavors.
WHY TALK OVER THE DYNO PULLS!??!
What?!
Somebody get this man a TurboSmart E-Gate 🤩.. I've seen this guy on 1320Video, gnarly little bugger. That E-Gate did great for the Boosted Boiz Kyle's MR2
Ive known harvis since i was a baby he actually juat git done fixing mine n my dad 98 honda civic
Wow!🔥🔥🔥
That’s my MF Old Boss and I love this man to death‼️‼️
AvE approved!
Shout-out to the AvE sticker by the shifter. Mine is on my toolbox..
Funny for last like 5 years its ben my goal to build a compound turbo s13
you've gotta go back to the ozzy narrator
Well its Haltech U S A
@@danielssonsgarage Maybe employ and Aussie to American translator? ;)
Yeah? Nah.
Very cool. I wonder what the value of the compound turbos are in this case? More power at a lower manifold pressure? Bc each one of those turbos will most like make 1200 hub by themselves, but maybe they would need to be pushed over 60 pounds. The 7685 may be out of boogy by then but the 88 would for sure. I dunno just curious. Very cool and fast hot rod. Anything faster than 5.70 in the 1/8th is enough to make most people brown out...there shorts of course. 4.50 is a hell of achievement in anything, but especially when you are like 5x’ing an engines original output. I like that.
You can operate the turbos in their efficiency zone easier than a giant single. So the air coming out of them is a little more dense and you have less back pressure.
can you make 1500hp from a k24 block? before you go billet?
Maaaaaaaad!!
Man this video had me smiles all the way.cant beat a kseries.#kseries all the way.
Fellow Kentuckian 🇺🇸
Does it have a blow off valve (I imaging it needs two) or is it just too much boost that some escapes back through the turbo?
Funny because his new setup is 125pbs of boost and 2100hp lol
I doubt he’s letting off the throttle during the run
jeeeshus
Eric is my dad :)
You got a awesome Dad buddy
Love you!
Get this man a proper PMU setup and send him a Nexus already!
That'd be a sequential turbo setup right?
Can you do a video explanation about fire tune/ popping sound tune? Now a day young car guys always want a popping sound or fire on there exhaust... Is it safe for the engine? Thus it gives performance level? Or just a show off? And why some tuning shop do that???
That popping sound is unburnt fuel igniting in the tail pipe.
@@kensmechanicalaffair why do some tuner recommend it?
@@alexfloresjr.429 I've never heard anybody recommend it. You're probably talking about 2 step(anti lag)
@@kensmechanicalaffair nope i know 2step/anti lag, some tuners in philippines tune the car just to do popping sound/flame tune...
thats not the only compound turbo JDM engine. there is a compound tri turbo 2jz making upwards of 3000HP
I was waiting for Bo and Luke to fly into shot
They were busy with Uncle Jesse...
That’s my tuner
yee haw whats with that voice over lol
Can Haltech run electric waste gates?
electric wastegate support coming soon:)
Fueltech do
Tell EJ to consider a Mazda Duratec-based motor! A destroked 2.5 uses the 94mm crank from the 2.3 couple with the 2.5s bigger 89mm bore, making it about a 2.4L, and as far as I'm aware, they're closed or semi-open deck compared to the K-series being open deck. Similar head potential, too!
Wont flow as good as a K series.
@@RecklessLilJ Similar head potential, especially with porting and combustion chamber work. They've got Duratec 2.5s doing over 300hp N/A, and the other benefits put it solidly above the K24 in my book.
I mean, unless they have 90-94mm destroker cranks, an easy way to beef up the open deck block, and a better (longer) than 1.62 rod ratio WITH the 90+mm stroke cranks...
@@Drunken_Hamster Vtec is alot better then Duratec. If these engines were really that good you would see more of them compete at the drag strip with civics but it's all dominated by B series, K series, rotary ,2jz and V8s lol. If they were really as good as you say I'm sure they'd be swapped into miatas, lotus elises, mr2s, old bmws, mini coopers , old Mitsubishi trucks ect. The k is on top 10 best engines of all time.
You name it
FWD?
AWD?
RWD?
No Duratec engine is competing with K series, B series, 4G63 or SR20 or any other 4 cylinders that are the fastest in these categories. Maybe on the street with what your talking about they can probably give some civics a good run but pound for pound and for the money especially the K is superior.
@@RecklessLilJ False equivalency fallacy. 5 years ago you'd say the same thing about the Vortec 4200 straight 6 being a nothing burger
Now they call it the "Ameribarra" and companies are releasing forged pistons so ACTUAL tuners (instead of keyboard warriors like you) can push them even higher than the 800whp they're already capable of bone stock.
Also, last I checked, the biggest dicc in the 4-cyl drag scene is actually Chevy's ecotec. 4g63 has problems, and the SR20 has one of the worst heads of every 4-cyl we're talking about. Vtec isn't the be-all/end-all, and if it were, more manufacturers would put it in their engines and tuners would find ways to retrofit it on other engines.
Instead, at the highest levels of competition we find the opposite. Builders opt to REMOVE VVT tech so they can run bigger static pattern cams.
@@Drunken_Hamster keyboard warrior? Lol I'm stating facts. I've been to Maryland International Raceway. I've been to import vs domestic. Been to alot of events my whole life and it's funny how I'm literally stating the cars that dominate the drag strip and you never see any Duratec lol. That's all I was saying and yes I dont got nothing bad to say about the Ecotec. In fact I'm glad you mentioned that because that's another example of a great 4 banger that is better then Duratec lol. Ecotec has ran 5s and theirs 2 k series cars that has ran 5s with still a higher mph so I'm a proud Honda fanboy lol they are gonna be hungry for that ecotec record again just like last year. Ecotec is a beast though and Carl took the record back by like .4 of a second so I give the ecotec credit. You just dont wanna hear someone say that the K is better then Duratec trash lol.Dont even get me started on Barra and idc if they got no aftermarket because 2JZ is king and has the aftermarket support lol.
Real St kept their F series and they still run faster times with less boost lol. For the longest time it ran on stock internals but now it holds the record for the fastest S2000 in the world with the extra displacement of new internals. F series > K
👍👍👍👍👍👍☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
What's that leaking out the bottom ?
He was trying some things out on the dyno. He removed the water from the head and laid the line to the side. Apparently he didn't get all the water out...
Where did you get your info for this, that car runs over 100 lbs of boost and makes more than 1200 lol
It has to, there's not way it does 6 seconds with 1200
@@benjamins9121 the caption said 1500hp, and i didnt know you can do 1500hp, i guess it depends on whos tuning
Always thought the larger turbo feeds the smaller one to increase boost but his is opposite. why?
That’s my daddy!
Love you fart head
@@madscientistauto ur Iiot
Oooof
Compound setup turned into a v8.
I'm guessing it has some reinforcements for drag racing. Still a shame and a waste of a track focused chassis. Did I miss something, or did he explain why he's specifically using an S200?
It was already a drag car when Eric got it. The car's history is explained towards the end of the video.
Sub 1.20 60foot wtf 👏🏼
Massive 88 feeding the 76/85 you mean..
Lol I wish my mistakes were like yours then
Don’t Do it Jesse
Very interesting build but the narrating was annoying
Yee.Haww.
You need a warning on vids with the american voice.
Meanwhile at POWERNATION It's 4 pot madness! Next we rip it out and put a V8 in 😁 Awesome car!
Moist
Please never have this narrator, narrate another video
F20C > k20
Yes and no, fuck love em both.
K24
@@kensmechanicalaffair F20C>k24
If there's 1 accent to make technology sound stupid, its this one
Lol
The narrating just spoiled this entire video ...
Love the vid, hate the commentary. Must be the accent....sorry.
Who is narrating the video?
Get rid of him his voice doesn't fit.
He's one of our guys at Haltech in Kentucky USA where the car is from, so we think his voice fits perfectly :)
I think he blew the motor. Lol
