I've soldered lugs on my 2 gauge welding cables, which have a large amount of current and amperage run thru them, and never had the joint fail. The crimped ones inevitably pull loose over time. In order to get a good joint, I'll hold them in a vise and fill the cup with acid core solder, while heating with a torch, then push the wires into it. I've also had to repair crimped automotive connections that have corroded over the years from being exposed to the elements. The ones on the coil pack of my 2005 Toyota Corolla were wrapped in an epoxy substance, but were corroded underneath it.

Subaru owner here (08 WRX, 19 WRX, and 18 STI) If there are ANY mods on the car you are looking at, take it to a tuner before buying and have them look at it. You will prevent most problems and/or avoid a bad purchase. My STI blew (head gasket). The previous owner had a bad tune. Luckily I knew there was a risk so I made the dealer guarantee warranty coverage despite the mods prior to purchase (It was a chevy dealer). The engine blew, I called the dealer, and they had it towed to Subaru. The Chevy dealer (who I purchased from) paid out of pocket for the repairs. I immediately went down to our local tuner and he got me all set up for about $200.

250,000 on the outback. 140,000 on the WRX. 60,000 on the STI. Only had 1 problem due to a previous owner. They are all still going too. I sold the WRX to a mechanic and he has closer to 200,000 miles on it. It's lightly modified now, but still seems to be fine.

When you talk about horse power, you are talking about top peak eg 6000 RPM. You're not talking horsepower at 3000 RPM which might be more relevant to an average car driver on a regular car road

Intersting after many years of rallying where joints are under a lot of stress we basically dont solder for some fo the reasons you mention sloder joints break where the solder endsm Our preffered conection is crimp based but with and effective crimp tool. The tool we used was none that used the plastic at the end of the connector to the end of the join process. This bit of plastic was then compressed by the tool to enhance the mechanical strength of the join process.
