    World Time Attack Challenge PRO classes have long been the domain of big-budget, no expense spared builds but Andrew's Nissan 180SX proves that you can build a competitive time attack racer on a fairly modest budget. What's required is some lateral thinking and plenty of persistence. Oh, and of course you must be prepared to do a lot of the work yourself. Which is exactly what Andrew did.

    Very wise and smart man. A lot of people throw money at stuff to go fast and it becomes a chore when it breaks. Andrew has clearly built a functional and reliable race car and is enjoying the fruits of his labour with seat time. Well done!

      We love Andrew's quote: "It's more fun to have a slower car and race it every weekend, than a crazy fast car and race it once a year."

      it might not have come across in the video, but I'd treat this more as a cautionary tale than a how-to :)
      This car definitely ended up more serious and complex than planned, and is not the most practical thing to deal with - but it's still a lot more usable as a fun car than it could have ended up.
      Hopefully more seat time coming soon!

    Thanks Haltech!
    It's always a pleasure to talk cars - especially S Chassis and SR20s, although I'm not normally doing that on camera!
    I'm looking forward to getting back out on the track with the new upgrades (DBW etc) and hopefully being well prepared for WTAC 2023!

      Brilliant overview and background :) can’t wait to see you run at WTAC :D
      Which model DBW throttle body did you go ? Was it a pain to fit up ?

    • @SXDevelopments
      @SXDevelopments Před rokem +1

      @@Todekki I used the 60mm Bosch one - which has the same mounting pattern and hose size as the original SR20 throttle body.
      It needed the holes drilled out to 8mm and some bolt head clearance machined in, but it's pretty close to a bolt on option.

    • @Todekki
      @Todekki Před rokem +1

      @@SXDevelopments thanks for the info :D my 180 is about to get its Haltech conversion and I’m tossing up to go DBW as well

    • @SXDevelopments
      @SXDevelopments Před rokem +1

      @@Todekki it definitely has its advantages, as long as you have enough inputs available on the ECU. It uses 3 more than a cable throttle setup.

    Awesome build man!! I built my twincharged aw11 track car myself at home on the dsp, took 2 years. It's such a wholesome feeling when you build it yourself, especially when you come in on the podium nearly every event against cars that their front wheel costs more than your whole car..... 😂😂

    this is what we called garage build...
    used parts,bunch of DIY,help from friends...
    not the $100.000 "garage" build,with some brand new crate engine from top tier engine shop,and build by the best mechanic in your country,making over 1000hp....im not hating it,just stop calling it "garage" or "backyard" build,and its even bought,not build
