In 2006 the Valencia fans were promised the “best stadium in the world”. 14 years later that new stadium is still in construction.
Why is it taking so long?
What stopped them from building?
How much is it going to cost?
Euan McTear explains.

Forget the new Stadium, I’m surprised Peter Lim hasn’t tried selling the Mestalla & telling the first team that home matches will now take place at Valencia’s finest public park.
Lol
There are some nice parks there though.
@Chad Tyrone and the worst part is that he did not even try to buy anyone new1🤣🤣
Lim salty and then take revenge to fans who mocked him by selling all good players. For him the club is just a toy, he is a manu fan
@Chad Tyrone they are hundreds of millions in debt. They dont have a choice.
barcelona fan complaining about their president bartomeu
me as vcf fan:
Lol they have peter lim
@@gedeabinaya9696 Bartomeu,Woodward,Kroenke:We are the worst presidents in world football.
Peter Lim:Smh,amateurs.😂
@@dilshadareen8455 Woodward isn't a president though, thank god
@@farheenaamir5627 the position he holds is quite literally the equivalent
I always giggle when I see Barca or Man United supporters crying about their owners. I always tell them to try imagine being a Valencia fan.
As a Valencia fan I don't want to see this video. I don't even want this stadium to be finished. Mestalla is a truly unique stadium with an unmatched atmosphere, with its terraces so steep they seem like a wall of supporters and seats so close to the pitch you can smell the grass. Mestalla is known as the 12th player of Valencia, the club will never be the same without it. If stadiums can have souls, this one surely does. And no amount of money can ever replace that.
Great breakdown! 5€ on Notre Dame being reconstructed before they finish. Let's go!
I'm not out to lose money mate
Great to have you here AI
10€ that Sagrada Familia is built first. Only been constructing that for 138 years.
Better bet would be Roma new stadium or Valencia new stadium first?
15€ on man stepping foot on moon again first.
Valencia stadium: - "14 years they can't finish me!!?"
Lithuanian national stadium: "Relax, enjoy the century."
Norejau ta pati komentuot
Nigerian National Stadium: Yeah bro, stop complaining
As long as you guys build anything new in Lithuania with a *natural* grass, your opponents will be happy. Other teams keep complaining the hard artificial surface at Lithuanian stadiums hurt their feet like hell.
Singaporean here and as a football fan, Peter Lim's takeover of the club has been a major mistake. I really hope Valencia rise again and be the powerhouse they deserve to be
Letting Benitez go and many sub par appointments after him kinda the reason.. Ranieri bring a lot of Italian dud (Fiore, Di Vaio, Mendieta?) with very high transfer, his successor, Ronald Koeman also did the same with Maduro etc.. After that the club has been in dire financial situation, hence peter lim able to swoop in and make matter worse by making atrocities such as appointing Neville..
Mendieta was sold by Valencia in the Cuper era. Ranieri didn't buy him.
Maduro wasn't expensive at all and QQ Flores was Ranieri's successor not Koeman.
I've been inside the "nou mestalla" and trust me it's a ruin. No way they can renovate it they'll have to knock it down, it's falling apart after years in the wind and rain and no maintenance, Hella spooky
That's sad, it's a great looking stadium from a non spectator perspective.
The very core of the structure exposed to the elements without any form of maintenance. Its mad that its got into that state, in such a short period of time. Hate to guess how much has already been spent on, like you said, is now a ruin.
If it wasn't for Arsene Wenger, there is quite a possibility that a similar thing would have happened to Arsenal
I don't know the story. Can anyone give a brief about it?
Yh cos we dodged a bullet in the 2008 financial crisis having the emirates completed in 2006.
@@SheffKhalid Arsene urged owners to complete it quickly?
yes. now the arsenal will have the biggest stadium in the championship...
Championship ? Oh thts hurtful
This really is such a shame. Valencia as a city is really beautiful and that ghost stadium in the middle of it totally ruins that
Its surprising no one came in to heavily invest in such a stylish club
As a Singaporean I apologise to all Valencia fans 😔
Same here
Same here. Valencia deserve better
why do they even sell it to people who don't value the club they should only sell it to people of thier own country only from spain
@@mikecoop6278 selling to ppl who dont even appreciate Football is a recipe for disaster
@@mikecoop6278 Exactly it should only be Spanish owned
They say that in this stadium, the ghost of Harry Kane squares it to Sterling.
😂😂😂😂
It's coming home 😂😂😂😂😂😂
and the ghost of Sterling blazes over the bar from 2 yards out xD
no one cares
The ghost of a linesman then correctly flags offside, rendering the whole sequence of play pointless!
OLD Mestalla wants a 100 years celebration!
Now its Valencia's ghost team...they are selling their best players for like nothing😂😂
@Anubhav Kumar and I m a barca fan😂
@Anubhav Kumar real's defence helped a lot 😂
@Anubhav Kumar yeah, just like the man city ucl tie last season, all the 4 goals were silly defensive mistakes. And im a madrid fan, but its just plain stupid at this point.
@Anubhav Kumar Barca has a defense!!😱(I am a Barca fan btw,it hurts😒)
@Anubhav Kumar except their defense goes missing on the pitch.....
They should renew the Mestalla, it’s a great ground with an electric atmosphere when full
Anyone else think that wass is underrated
As a Madrid fan, F*ck that guy lol. He’s always dangerous against us. I respect his game.
@@DanielGarcia-pg8tn XD
as a vcf fan. he is inconsistent and a single dimension player. predictable at times.
I've been following his career since 2014. I wish he moved from valencia 2 or 3 years ago because he really could have been much better
No
I wish somebody with ambition buys Valencia
Peter Lim was someone with ambition. I hope someone DECENT buys Valencia, for once.
Although I am not from Spain, I support Valencia for a long time, it is such a shame what happened with this club. I think that the new owner Lim is partly to blame with this situation. I hope someone new will buy the club and help it grow.
This goes to show the magnitude of Wenger's consistent Champions League qualification. He sacrificed the deep seated desire to win trophies for the future of the club. True legend.
And their fans forced him to leave... and look how arsenal now, failed quallify to ucl, for how many years now
@@smharyanto4660 Damn. No wonder he stated he'd never go back to the Emirates for anything: League, Cup, testimonials, continental competitions. Absolutely zero appreciation from the fans probably ruined his 20 some years of some genuinely entertaining teams and play.
@@smharyanto4660
Forced he had years any other club would have given him the boot before 2014
If this story sounds crazy just have a look what is going on with A.E.K Athens stadium. The stadium is now almost at its final form and the team will have her own stadium after 17(!!) years.
Sounds like the whole project is cursed
How else am I supposed to get this intriguing story apart from tifo. You guys are the best!!!
Lovely stadium would be a shame if
yea would be shame if
Be shame if
would be a shame if
If
if they completed it , only for the stadium to bleed more money from Valencia CF
Valencia is a big club back then but now they not because of this new management hope don't give worse to Valencia team
Reminds me of the Panathinaikos Votanikos stadium saga, it's definitely worth a video you have time
Athletic is back, Manscape won't be missed
Very very good summing up. London-based Valencia fan here (and president of the official Valencia U.K. fanclub should anyone wish to get in touch)
Hey Tristan! I remember you from the good old days. The issues we faced then seem like peanuts compared to today's situation.
I was only wondering where this was up to yesterday 👏 I started following Valencia as ‘my Spanish club’ in the early 2000s back when they were good but weren’t Real or Barca
As a Singaporean, we are sorry towards Valencia
This was amazing, thank you
What an interesting watch 😄. Man, I love tifo!
So sad what`s happening there. I was a fan of the club as a child, so many memories...
A Nou Mestalla which is already old..! This Hits hard for them! I wish they get their new stadium ASAP!
Nice video bro
Stuff like this makes what Simeone has achieved at Atletico de Madrid seem that more impressive.
i dONT UNDERSTAND
Atletico and Valencia were of the same stature as a club. One of the main reasons Valencia has not been able to finish is the on field
Failings to qualify for Europa, UCL, Copa Del Ray, which boosts finances significantly. Simeone won La Liga, 2 Europa Trophies and consistently qualifies for the Champions League (making two finals). That’s the biggest reason Atletico were able to build a new stadium. It’s a very similar story of Arsene Wenger at Arsenal. Although in my opinion Arsenal were a bigger club in England than Atletico in Spain prior to those two
Coaches joining their respected clubs
Just keep the mestalla, unreal atmosphere there
Exactly. It's one of the best in the world, why on earth would you want to replace it?
They have to sell it
Nice video!
Wow almost 100 years mark coming up for Valencia at estadio Mestalla
Maksimir: Please, hold my beer...
This reminds me of the new Berlin airport that was just completed in terms of the time that passed
Great job
Since we have a mention of Peter Lim, how about a video of the failed Singaporean bid from Bellagraph Nova for Newcastle United?
Building big stadiums in big cities is also a huge task and a achievement in its own somthing clubs like arsenal and Tottenham are ahead of clubs like Chelsea Liverpool and even united because of how they can generate an extra 9 grant from vips seats alone from match day to add to revenue.
And being ahead of clubs whom want to build in paying of debt.
Liverpool doesn't need a new stadium
Anfield is solid.....a fortress and is going nowhere....anfield is expanding and will hit a maximum spectator capacity around 75k if I'm not wrong
Great video, example of the political corruption in la Comunidad Valenciana. Reminds me a lot Man. U situation, supporters paying for their club's owners greedy.
Caspa Schmeichel is thought to haunt the ground.
I was able to visit Valencia and man I loved the city and the people. My Spanish was (still is) terrible. They were so polite and understanding. They made me realize America is missing out on worldwide football. I’ve supported them since, the mastella needs to stay put in my opinion. I could feel the history. I would abandon that new stadium and stick with the historic stadium
You guys should do a video on Roma’s stadium issues as well. That saga is a similarly huge mess although they haven’t even put a shovel in the ground yet.
You can get to the Stadium via the BER Airport :D
Woah! Who would have thought!
to be fair i think this is just the football God's way of saying don't let the Mestalla go, that stadium is iconic
Fm challenge coming up
This is definitely an FM challenge!
LOOOOOL I was still in primary school when this project started
They have a stadium in the middle of the city center like english giants Newcastle United, why would they want to change that?
Valencia will be liquidated and will fold and reform in the lower leagues of Spanish football in a few years, mark my words.
Hope there will be solution in the near future🙏
Peter Lim is too cheap to finish it and gain more revenue from ticket sales once fans are allowed to attend games?
Mark Fenwick’s stadiums have taken a lot of lives over the years
Here for my daily dose of Tifo
I thought the stadium is Haunted lmao
Me too😆.. I was waiting for the moment he talked about ghosts 🤣🤣
Isn't ghost stadium like n little fans go I don't know
4 people lost their life for nothing, if I was a family member I'd be distraught to not see this stadium fully built
I think you guys are mind readers -- I was playing against Valencia in Fifa 21 a few days ago, and started wondering to myself what happened to Nou Mestalla!
"It's not the Mestalla - it's a very knotty problem."
Probably this was the reason why Gary Neville stank in Valencia
Neville was a mark of how low this once great club has fallen.. They used to be one of my favourite team outside Juventus..
They used to have a very strong midfielder with Baraja Abelda Aimar and Vicente with Ayala and Marchena in the back on UEFA Cup finals against Marseille.. Too bad after Benitez, they make too many missteps..
Or maybe it's because Gary Neville can't even speak Spanish let alone coach...
Well no because after Neville, Marcelino finished 4th twice and won the Cup.
@@samuelsanjaya7857 Those were the days…
Please can you make a video about Chelsea's new stadium please
Who wants another lifeless bowl anyway, Mestalla is one of the only big European club stadiums that actually has an atmosphere and character. Yet again clubs putting investors’ interests above the fans
Seems at this point the new stadium will hardly be an upgrade and will be in a much worse location. Tough situation to find yourself in.
Heard it's capacity was reduced further to 55k
Well Barcelona announced they're going to rebuild camp nou in 2016
Let's see when they will do that
If this stadium is ever gonna be completed I’m more than sure it won’t have the atmosphere of the old Mestalla
Amunt valencia 🦇
Roman Abramovich won’t buy Valencia? Peter lim will destroy Valencia :(
Valencia is Arsenal without Arsene Wenger..
2008 was soo cruel
Spain and not finishing infrastructure projects. Name a more iconic duo
It's sad Gary Neville couldn't work on the 'new' stadium. Btw, isn't Valencia's entire 1st team sold by now?
and now we're 17th, we rly fell off
Cover the rise and fall of Fiorentina
Valencia doesn’t have fans anymore
Well, it lost me. Or, I lost my club :/
Now let’s see Luton Towns eternal struggle for a new ground. Starting in 1955. Kohlerdomes, Milton Keynes.....

Their current capacity is 55000 and the new ones estimated to be around 500 less so what's the reason to move?
Well for some teams the seating capacity isnt their main focus. Just because a stadium can hold more people doesn't mean its automatically better.
The stadium is in the center of the city, even better is if u go to valencia nou mestalla is the first establishment u see, the reason why the city needed it is to spike up tourist numbers, events like concerts and such will be easy to accomodate. In other words Nou mestalla is a cash grab for the city of valencia.
Maybe has a lot of VIP boxes
Can you make a video on 'What happened to Deportivo La Corina?' in brief?
Tifo already did.
@@kawangkwok5262 oh.... Sorry
For an Englishman the pronouncement of fenwick was criminal
Valencia stadium is already great and beautiful in their respective way ....building a new stadium is really WASTED MONEY...IS NOT LIKE VALENCIA HOME GROUND IS OLD AND ROTTEN LIKE SAN SIRO ( sorry milan fans )
Problem is, they were at a good spot when they introduced Nou Mestalla, they had David Villa, Silva, Joaquin, Canezares, they had a good squad. They needed that push to compete with Spain and Europe's Elite. The stadium should have been finished in the Summer of 2009...it didn't.
@@blueflame3531 that is really tragic for Valencia fans
@@emir.e99 they literally wanted to be at the top and if the crisis and bad results did not hit them they would be a healthy club today
Imagine if peter Lim was owner and bartomeu was president
Did they also sold half of their startup players for this reason?
Just looked at a few pictures of the stadium. It’s a depressing looking structure.
The clubs should be owned by it's people not by foreigners....bundesliga is the best example if how to run clubs...51 percent owned by it's people
What exactly do these Asian billionaires get out of buying these big clubs and running them Into the ground?
I know there's examples of them making clubs into what they are today but there's far more horror stories than success stories. They're already rich so can't say it's to make money and it's not for the glory cz the majority of these owners just make the club's worse
