    How different this would have been had we beaten Porto and Monaco to win that UCL where at that point (semis) we were the favorites to many eyes. That comeback against European champions Milan in the quarterfinals was the pinnacle, and the elimination by Porto was the beginning of our downfall. Still, what a great story to be told and what a great legacy to have. Now, with big clubs getting even more money than in the 90s and early 00s, it seems impossible to achieve such a feat anymore, but here we are, supporting this club in the bad times as much as we enjoy supporting it in the good ones. That semi final vs Mourinho's Porto side will haunt us forever, just as Djukic penalty miss has. I remember Andrade getting sent off in the first leg for "tapping" Deco in the back with his foot, almost saying "get up, I hardly touched you" the ref interpreted that as an aggression and sent him off. We played the rest of the game with a man less and missed Andrade for the return leg at home which proved vital. Cesar played as his replacement and committed the penalty which knocked us out 0-1 at home. Gutted.

      @stealthiscool Před 4 lety +7

      Los Galacticos I really didn’t like them back then and I never bought the “plucky underdog” narrative, they used the dark arts of football to get ahead of the opposition like many of Jose’s teams, they had a lot of talent but they were a petulant team

I remember taping the games they showed on ESPN on VHS and would watch them over and over again. Makaay and Diego Tristan were amazing together. Not to mention the talent of Milan, Okocha and a young Ronaldinho for PSG, and of course the human highlight reel Hagi for Galatasaray. What a fun time to be a fan of soccer. Miss those days

    Thank you so much for this. Deportivio played out of the world football with just 1 striker upfront. All their matches should be in archive for years to come. They have limited potential but mesmerised fans. Super Depor will come back .

    I am 32 years old, my first time in Riazor was vs Tirol Insbruck at Riazor so I could see a big part of our rise and fall... I cried so much but when someone, specially if like u is foreigner, remember all what we do my heart grows up with a big smile.

    Deportivo fan here, and I got to say that he hardest (and maybe saddest) part of this story is the passing of time: that LaLiga title was back in 2000, almost 20 years ago, Arsenio’s era ended almost 25 years ago, the Centenariazo (that’s how we call the Copa title vs Real Madrid) is already 18 years old, and the last participation in UCL was 15 years ago...you might read this and say: yes, but you just stated obvious numbers; but think about this: there is a vast amount of supporters of the club that weren’t able to enjoy these golden days: some of them didn’t have use of reason, and some of them weren’t even born. The people that couldn’t be a part of the glory of the past will always feel gutted about not being able to see their team having success, while the parents or grandparents of these fans will always remember, with seemingly incurable melancholy, those magic nights with a special bright in their eyes, knowing and trying to accept that maybe, and most surely, that football miracle will never happen again. Meanwhile the team struggles in LaLiga Smartbank (Second Division) after missing promotion last season, but we will never leave, no matter what, and it is nice to see that the team is still remembered, even outside spanish borders. Forza Dépor 💙

    Could we get a brief history of Stuart Pearce? Kind of a left-field one but I was just reading about his years in non-league whilst working as an electrician, his reluctant move straight from non-league to the top-flight, and his strange transfer to Nottingham Forest where he would go on to be a surprise legend. This, combined with his interesting later, international and managerial careers, would make for a good video-I think.
