it was a crazy CL season, within 24 hours the two or let's say the 3 strongest teams so far in this season have been eliminated against 3 totally underdogs, the comeback of deportivo is the most beautiful in the whole history of European football, because it is really unthinkable to score 4 goals agains one of the strongest defense lines in football history and even to not concede a goal against also a very impressive squad.
Hats off Deportivo,i hope we could see them soon participate in champions league, every football fan has adorable memories with this club.
Very late to the comment, but it will be a LONG time before we see Deportivo in CL again. We might never even see them in La Liga again. The last I heard, they were in danger of being relegated to the 5th division, and only 4 teams out of 100 are promoted to La Liga 2nd division. It's a battle zone, and I don't think they will ever make it again.
@@Nish.05 you are wrong, I'm from La Coruña (The city of Deportivo) and we are playing the play off to get promoted to the second division and our youth team has won the spanish cup against Real Madrid on the semifinals and against Barcelona on the final and they played the youth champions league last year so I Hope we have a great future!
Javier Irueta is one of the most underappreciated Coaches. His 4 2 3 1 and Diamond formations came before Jose Mourinho, but he is forgotten because he never competed in a CL final

Conceding goals was normal but they didn’t seem to want to get goals and drowned.
It’s also the last feat of this feared La Coruna team from the early 2000’s which clearly was capable of anything at that time.I will always remember how Juventus miraculously got through from the group stage in 2002/2003 with the last volley of Tudor...to beat La Coruna.I still don’t understand how they got eliminated by Porto in semis.
Anyway Milan had probably the best individuals and all at their top that year but probably too confident after the first leg.

No they don't. They took 8 past Monaco and 4 past Milan. They didn't atack in Porto and expected Porto to play in counter atack in Riazor, but they dominated the game, from begining to end.
Yup they truely did deserve to win it. Beating Milan was the hardest thing to do in football in that season. Depor lost only because of referee and that cheating by deco.

Coming up against a star studed AC Milan team, this team was something else, Fran, Valeron, Lique, Victor etc. The last golden generation of depotivo la coruna, such a shame that they are now in Spanish lower division. That was the time every club in the UCL got an equal chance of progressing to at leat the quarter finals before money came and rue the beautiful game. I doubt if depotivo will ever have a team like this ever again in history

That was season of underdogs in CL. Porto knocked Man United out in round of 16. Monaco knocked Real Madrid and Chelsea (already with Abramovic dough) out in 1/4 and semis. Deportivo knocked two Italian giants (Juve and Milan) out in 1/8 and 1/4. Crazy season. and Monaco also destroyed Deportivo 8-3 in group stages. They were, probably, most deserving CL winners as Mou's Porto had only United as their big scalp. They didnt beat Madrid in group either.

I remember the commentator saying at 4-1 in the first leg "you just feel that Milan could get more goals if they wanted to", but even in that game they felt the tie was over & did their Italian thing. They never got out of first gear in this game, Deportivo got the momentum early on & destroyed them for the whole game. Oddly, as legendary as this Milan team was, they could bottle leads against inferior teams. They did it again against Liverpool in the CL final, & a few years later they very nearly bottled a 4-0 first leg lead against Arsenal (although most of these players were gone by then). I still don't understand it!
