- Since I have seen many confused comments about how best to approach the Boogiepop franchise, here is my easy guide.

LIGHT NOVEL VS. ANIME (Eps. 1+2): • Boogiepop - Light Nove... - Hry
FUCK I ALSO FORGOT: At the end of the first part, Touka tells Takeda that she DID in fact remember standing him up that day and "just wanted to mess with his head a little," implying that it's possible she's more aware of Boogiepop than she lets on, which the anime skipped.
I took Touka claiming she remembered standing Takeda up as another example of her memories altering to suit the situation, I think she also said something along the lines of her standing him up because she was jealous of him.
If I remember correctly it helped put Takeda at ease after his meetings with Boogiepop had come to an end. Which may have been the true purpose of her new memory of standing him up.
On the anime: Which do I watch first 2000 version or the 2019 version
Read the novels or eps 1 - 3 of the 2019 anime before you go on to the 2000 anime. The 2000 anime is an un-offical sequel.

I went into the anime blind Without knowing a thing really about the light novels and mostly just being hype because the one punch man staff was on it. I enjoyed it mostly for how mysterious and eerie it felt. Some of the things I could mention being Boogiepop himself and just how unknown and yet knowledgeable he felt, the weird passage of time, the shear normalcy of the school and it's inhabitants, and the soft music that played as I tried to figure out what was going on.
The novels definitely do seem like they're better than the anime, but I think i'll finish the anime since im enjoying it for the most part now.

Digi, just letting you know because of your videos I bought the 1st omnibus and I'm really excited. It'll be my 1st ever LN and one of the 1st books I've read not for school. Thanks for such a strong recommendation.
I love your enthusiasm for this series. A couple years back I watched one of your videos where you mentioned boogiepop in passing and I became intrigued by your fascination, so I read the first 3 novels and loved it (especially the first book). That kind of fascination is just incredibly addictive and you should definitely make a main channel video on it. I feel like it would be one of your best and biggest videos if you did that. Your love for boogiepop is like my love for anything nisioisin does and if people similarly have something they like to that extent, I feel like it would catch on.

I'm really glad that I got to pick up both volumes of the Omnibus collection. I was hyped by the anime as well, which motivated me to check Phantom at first, which I really liked. But I was let down by the new anime as well since everything that I liked from Phantom was missing here, but when I started reading the books, then I became completely engaged. Yeah, thanks for recommending the series.
Yes please! Anyone who wants more Boogiepop, please buy the novels that are available from Seven Seas. I'd love to see them bring more over to the U.S.
nice to see a follow up this is all good information especially the music cause I don't remember the music in the anime being so good but I do love Coltars of the Deep and Yuki Kajiura so will definitely give this a listen

The anime does mention Kamikishiro being able to hear Echoes. Nagi questions how she knows so much despite him not being able to speak towards the end of episode 2.

I bought the vol. 1-3 omnibus on Barnes & Noble alongside Rohan at the Louvre and Manga in Theory and Practice for their buy-2-get-1-free manga and light novels sale. Still waiting on them to arrive, can't wait to delve into them and Boogiepop Phantom.

Wagner does show up in the Anime, just not in the first 3 episodes. They also did make use of Stairway to Heaven in the last arc.

You watch Phantom and Boogiepop 2019, you read the light novels up to Volume 6 and then you scream bloody murder at Seven Seas for not translating the SEVENTEEN OTHER VOLUMES OF BOOGIEPOP INTO ENGLISH

I ended up getting a pdf of 1-3 and 6 after Digis recommendation the first time he mentioned I made a side note to do it but I actually went and did it now. Not disappointed, absolutely fun to read, the writing isn't overly difficult or too simple, it's smooth and interesting, I ate through 1-3 I'm going to start on 6 and I can't wait to purchase and read 4&5 in the next set coming out. Boogie pop is so much fun but creepy too, and the different kind of relationships seen are really cool nice to see bc there's some dabble in homosexual feelings but nothing deep a quick mention but refreshing for its age. (although not surprising of 90s 2000s era.)
The only feeling from it is wanting more boogie pop every story feels complete otherwise. Highly recommend I'm gonna force feed it to family and friends
They mention his wanting to die (slightly) in the anime when he meets the manticore, doesn’t it? Not much and not enough, but it is there

Is there any reason to avoid the e-books? Honestly, just looking for a way to save myself thirty bucks at this point, since the omnibuses don't appear to have e-books. (I prefer e-books generally.)

I'm going to be a smart ass because I'm Asian, you're technically reading what I'm typing right now.
I watched the first two episodes just now and came to a conclusion that this story would've benefited more if it was adapted by SHAFT and used "Monogatari" style of storytelling, since both are dialog heavy. Reading dialogs might be interesting, but watching two dummies have a conversations in mundane setting with little to no action is boring. Some abstract imagery would've improved the enjoyment from anime adaptation of Boogiepop. Also VA imo is bad in this series, so shame on you MADHOUSE casting department :P
I tried to watch the old show. what. the. fuck. sepia, sepia everywhere. did someone soak it in piss? unwatchable garbage. the new series seems fine thus far.
