This reminded me of how I play the Roxas section of Kingdom Hearts 2 every summer since it came out. That final line, "Sora, you're lucky, looks like my summer vacation's over." always brings different thoughts and feelings every time I hear it. Sometimes I continue with the rest of the game, sometimes I just leave it there, but every summer I'm just simply compelled to play that part.

In fact, I love that it's so many episodes, because it means I get to consume something I enjoy for a long time once my brain assumes it's been awhile since I've seen them (it usually hasn't been that long in reality).

If you want to play a fun game, look up a seasonal anime chart from 2012 to 2015 and see how many light novel adaptations that you knew about at the time (maybe even watched), but have since totally forgotten about. For every Hyouka, there's multiple Campiones to be found.

I thought from the title that this was going to be a pessemistic video about an inevitable and eventual losing of interest in anything you spend enough time on, but instead it ended up being one of my favourite videos of yours. You really put into words something that is inherently understood on some level (by me at least, and I think most people?) but very difficult to collect as one coherent thought and approach as such. This is a type of of insight you really excel at.

It is incredible how much more I appreciate the writer's choices and how it has contributed to my understanding of WHY I LIKE THESE SHOWS. Additionally, I've been going through a similar path with music. Sure I can talk about why I like An Com's Merriweather and Strawberry Jam, but after re-listening, I can pick up on even more nuances in the music and through this process I feel more legitimized in talking about and understanding these LP's.

Reminds me of one of the first things I learnt as a game designer:
The game is not the experience as the experience doesn't exist, it's in the player's head.
The same player going through the same levels of your game can (and will) have different experiences based on the context.
All you can do as a designer is build your game in such a way that having the intended experience is the most appealing way to engage with the game.

As a kid I would often rewatch the same show or movie, but mostly I would replay the same games.
Once I hit 16 and started earning my own money, I would consume media once and then move on to the next thing. This resulted in a fair few unfinished games. Now that I'm in my late 20's I feel compelled to go back and replay those games. I find some stuff to be unplayable or unwatchable as I'm just not in the same head space anymore. Whereas some media is even better. Its like you said, the old you isn't around anymore to explain himself.

This video describes my experience with Horseshoe finale.
The first time I watched Horseshoe Finale, I had only seen a handful of Jesse's videos and didn't know much about him. I liked the video but I didn't really understand what was going on, other than the references to The Horseshoe Crew. I liked it, but I knew I didn't get it fully. So I binged the entire Drowning In Horseshoes series, and it made a lot more sense the second time around, but I wasn't done with it yet.
I revisited it after seeing "Horseshoe Finale: One Year Later".
I revisited it after listening to about 30 episodes of the PCP.
I revisited it after binging every video on the Endless Jess channel.
I revisited it in order to show one of my friends, around the time Jesse left the PCP.
I revisited after catching up on Furnace Room and My Japanese Animes
I revisited it after listening to all the available episodes of The Horsecast.
I revisited it after catching up on Pleeb and the Weeb.
I revisited it last week just for fun.
And I will revisit it again after I watch Neon Genesis Evangelion for the first time.
Every single viewing, I notice more details. The posters in the background, the background music, quotes from CM Punk, clips from deleted Footwear videos, the relevance of the costumes he wears..... They all have a purpose. I understand it a little more every single time, but I will never be 'finished' with Horseshoe finale. So long as Jesse continues to produce content, there is more context to be gained.
Great video, Digi. It's given me a lot to think about.

I’m really interested in hearing your thoughts on Shinsekai Yori. In spite of it’s faults, it’s my favorite anime of all time. I’ve read or listened to many reviews either praising or criticizing it to add to my perspective of the series. I’m just a little worried that you’ll be too clickbaity with a title like “Shinsekai Yori is Worse Than SAO”. I’m in the process of creating an analysis video of the show, so I hope you provide genuine good criticism for me to discuss. I’m hesitant, but looking forward to it 👍🏼

I re-watch Sailor Moon, Evangelion, Lain, Hellsing (2003), FLCL, Haibane Renmei, Nausicaa, .Hack//Sign, Rose of Versailles, Cowboy Bebop, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Gundam Wing.......and some others I'll think of later. I find re-watching things to be somewhat soothing. For Evangelion I watch it probably once a year. I like to have old familiar shows on in the background while I draw.

how do people not get Lain!!!!
Eiri ("God," wide mouth man), created the Wired, and placed a copy of himself inside the network to guide it like a god with his worshipers, the Knights. He didn't have enough control, though, so he created another network entity (Lain of the Wired) to help him gain power over the real world. The Knights created a physical body for Lain and placed it in a fake life until the body would become mature enough for the Lain of the Wired to manifest. Unfortunately for them, the body itself formed a consciousness, thinking that she was a normal girl in a normal life at first but then slowly becoming aware of the difference between herself and the Lain of the Wired she was created to contain. The show follows that artificial real-world Lain's perspective as she discovers that her life was never really real.

I used to despise rewatching anything save for movies but with how bad seasonals have been it’s actually really comforting rewatching some older shows I enjoyed or feel like I’ve forgotten about. Knowing the general outcome of an episode let’s you key in on the minor faults or finer details and completely reinforces or changes your view of a show, a super comforting thought for an egotistic asshole like me who never wants to have the wrong opinion

I'm just amazed at what i missed when i consume an analysis on the show, or when i watched it with a different state of mind alot of things became clearer to me and it was FUCKING AWESOME!
In some twisted way i admire those ppl who can devour so much seasonal anime and more those who make videos on those surface level shows, so i just resign myself to my niche media of Lain and Eva.

Enjoying rewatching or doing the same thing over and over is normal for children. The way our brain works as it develops in children makes being able to predict what happens next in a show/movie/game pleasurable. Even stuff like correctly predicting what a character says or memorizing a song.

I'm rewatching Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans because apparently quite a few elitists hate it. I've been tweeting as I watch, and it's all on a single, huge thread.

Digi is doing less specific anime analysis, and is instead talking more about life and experience related to anime. Our reality (through some lenses) is rather depressing though, that's all.
Perhaps you see it as depressing because you haven't come to terms with the futility of our minuscule presence on the cosmic string? Or perhaps you are a regular human being who watches anime for fun and doesn't think about the existential dread within? Or maybe, just maybe, Digi has been diagnosed with a dire illness with only one month to live, and is leaving his final mark on this earth in the form of 31 well-crafted anime CZcams videos? No matter what the case is, I think everything is alright... probably.

So true. I just re-watching Jormungand for the second time and if on first try the show was just okay, but now by realizing that there is only few such "realistic" military/action anime, by already knowing some details about the plot and by just the fact that I self became more adult, I get much more appreciation for that show now.
Same with FLCL on the first try I dropped it on second episode and now, few years later I just in love with it.
And funny how when I was a kid I had fewer options how to get anime thats why I re-watched the things I had constantly. And I newer was bored by it. And now I just go on and go on. After finishing one anime I just go to watch another one just on the next day... Like I didn't saw the previous one. It's like I dont even try to memorize that stuff, or rethinking about it, or just stay in the mood of that show for a little longer. It just gives me the feeling that, how can I say that in English? Hmm

I'm fairly new to watching anime regularly and I'm kind of slow to go with it. I'm always waiting to be in the right mood to watch a series, or even in the right mood to continue a series. I started samurai champloo at the start of this year and finished it last week, and that worked for me.
But idk if going at such a slow rate is a good choice because I get a higher quality viewing experience or if I'm missing out by massively lowering the quantity of media I'm consuming.
I also definitely stand by at least a second viewing giving you a very different perspective. My first viewing of a series is often very emotionally charged and lets me analyze myself and my reaction to the story while the second can be more analytical towards the media itself and its structure. And among many things, the pacing is one of the biggest things that can feel completely different on each watch because of this difference in perspective when viewing.

I don’t always “understand more” on repeat viewings, but everything that falls within my favorites of any medium are things I’ve gotten at least as much value from when revisiting it as from my initial viewing. Most of those favorites make me want to start over and re-experience it immediately after I’ve reached their end. It’s important not to stagnate, but there’s value to be found in stopping or concentrating on one action for a while as well.

I've seen Gurren Lagann as a show 5 times, both of the movies 6 times, and the final fight at least 30 times including during the show and movies. What I'm trying to say is I'm a smug bastard who thinks he know everything about every scene of Gurren Lagann. However, whenever I watch it I seem to pick up something I either missed or brushed over previously, and one of the main things this stems from is this high and mighty personality when watching the show. I might THINK I know everything about a scene, but if I or another person were to watch it from a different angle, then it would be easy to find something new in a lot of the scenes, philosophically, narratively, and/or aesthetically. Moral of the story is to try to view things from a different perspective when rewatching, and make sure not to close something out just because you think you understand it like I did/do.

I listen to an episode of Eromanga-Sensei Every Week almost every night as I wait to drift into sleep. When I first listened to that 12 episode podcast I enjoyed it as a hyperbolic retelling of an awful show (that I’d never watch myself), and it is hilarious on that level, but these days I appreciate more as a little window into an arc of two mens’ lives, as it got Digibro to write a whole light novel out of sure incredulity and gives some behind the scenes to BestGuyEver’s most popular video. Every time I listen to it I feel I understand Digi or Guy a little bit more, while I’m sure it might be played up to an extent their emotional journey through watching Eromanga-Sensei is just filled with character and insight that I just don’t get out of other media. This comment might not make a lot of sense but I hope you find this complementary if you ever read this, Digi (or Guy if you’re creeping in his comments).

The only things he have said of the show was that it was boring (many people, including me, can say the same), that every detail of the world was told in an exposition dump (indeed, there were a lot of exposition dumps in that show), that it looks ugly (yep... some episodes just look like shit others are passable, at least for me), and I think that's it (until now)... you'll have to wait till his (probably) half and hour video on it to really questions his points. Until now, many people are on board with those initial criticisms.
