IELTS Writing Task Two
Ideas...Ideas...Ideas...
In this video we are going to look solely at IELTS writing task two and ideas for globalisation.
OK? This is a common topic on the writing task paper. It’s one of about twelve topics ranging from transport, to health, to education, to law and crime and what we’re going to do is to look at about twenty different questions and I’ll give you ideas on how i would write my essay on that topic, ok? In particular that question. So, we’re going to go fast. If you want write down the questions, write down the answers and yeah, you could even build an essay around the questions afterwards. OK? And around your notes which would probably be a good way to practice.
Let’s get started.
“Some people believe that the most important aspect of their job is their salary. Others think that the job itself is the most important. What do you think is the most important aspect of a job?”
Right then...So, look we can see in this question that this is more or less a distraction. OK? The first two sentences. Here is what you gonna get points for. “What do you think is the most important aspect of a job?”. OK? And then we’ve got the standard “specific details and examples to support your choice”. Now, I’m not going to ignore these totally but I’m gonna use them as guidance. OK? So, let’s see...Let’s do a four paragraph essay. Introduction, in which case I’ll just rephrase this. Then I’m going to do “body paragraph one”...What do i need for “body paragraph one”? I need an idea to build my essay around. So, I’m going to say that the actual job is the most important. Paragraph one...
Paragraph two: Salary isn’t important because the more money you get the less valuable it is. OK? Those are my ideas and I’ll just think of an example: A recent study by Harvard showed that salary, received salary does not equal...Sorry...Like “the higher the wage does not equal the higher the job satisfaction” or something like that. OK? And then I’d finish with a conclusion. That would be my essay. So i’ll just recap:
Paragraph one: Introduction.
Paragraph two: The job itself is the most important. The skills, what you learn, the people you work with.
Number two: Salary is important but not that important because study showed that the higher salary does not necessarily mean the higher the job satisfaction.
Then conclusion.
And then on to mine. Let’s carry on.
“Many people say that globalization and the growing number of multinational companies have a negative effect on the environment. To what extent do you agree or disagree?”
OK...Easy...I totally agree...OK? Totally agree that they have a negative effects on the environment. So, let’s see:
Introduction: Rephrase the question.
Body paragraph one: I don’t know. “Certain industries especially related to natural resources such as mining, fossil fuel extraction and logging.” OK? “And the more resources taken, the higher the profit. Profit is the sole objective of the company. So there is a negative correlation or a negative effect there”. OK? Body paragraph one and I’ll put an example in there.
Body paragraph two would be, I don’t know...”Furthermore, the governments almost encourage multinational activity and invite large companies to come in and hire the local population and sometimes to induce the company to stay, they can offer relaxed regulation which is in the interest of the company. For example: Shell in Nigeria...Bla bla bla...OK?
And conclusion: Undoubtedly, the most common case is the multinationals extracting natural resources in a country, the more country is damaged...Bla bla bla...
OK? That’s my rough essay. Let’s carry on.
“Why do you think social skills are now being emphasized by companies during the recruitment process?”
