      Thank you. I needed to know if these were actually hitting harder down range. Even when launched at a significantly lower velocity they seem to hit much harder than lead. The dog and pig belong to my daughter. They formed some kind of a bond and can't be separated. It's like some kind of a cartoon come to life.

    There seems to be a lot of interest in expanding the use of the .410. Not a bad thing. Turkey hunting was always something I reserved for 12 gauge guns...just, well, because. My .410s have been reserved for skeet and hunting small, more or less stationary targets, like squirrels.
    I am glad to see the .410 capability being expanded, hopefully it works well for those that try it. The testing was very impressive.
    PS..I have a bunch of the Carlson's tubes for two sporting clays guns and have been very pleased with them. Good product and a reasonable price.
    Thanks, Buffalo.

      I've always used a 12 gauge for turkey as well and I don't know that this will change that but it did show me that the .410, with this modern ammunition, is capable of getting the job done. This is something that will help my son as he doesn't have the upper body strength to hold a 12 gauge steady for very long but he is pretty good with the little .410.

    Great video Buffalo I never thought of the .410 being a Turkey gun but it is. I am going to say something that a lot of folks are going to call me out on. I have hunted turkey for about 7 years now I use a 20 gauge with 7/8 ounce #6 2 3/4 Remington Shure shot dove. It has never let me down yet out to 35 yards. I used 3-inch mags for a while then I thought about how I can kill a squirrel with 2 3/4 loads out to 40 or 50 yards and had to pattern it for turkey's and it did great.

    I started using a 410 last season about mid-way thru. My first morning out with it I stoned one at 21 yards, he fell in his tracks and hardly even flopped. I carried it thru the end of the season and did pass on a couple of birds that were out to 40. I was not 100% confident on making a clean kill that far out as the gun was still new to me as were the #9 Federal TSS loads. However since then, with more familiarity and testing with this set-up I am completely confident in a clean kill out to 40. I do not need any more range for my preference in turkey hunting. I figure if I cant get him inside of 40 he deserves to roost another evening and I need to get better at what I am doing. I got the tristar (cant remember the model) but it is dipped in bottomland and has the drop or pistol grip, also came with attachment points for a sling and a rail mount for a red dot. This thing is plain and simple a joy to tote all over the turkey woods as it weighs probably less than half what my Vinci does.

Feathers flew off and he tumbled out of control straight to the ground. I can’t recall what specific shell I was using though. But those Tungsten shells definitely look like a winner.

    Here's a funny story for ya... Last year 2 Toms, and a few hens were heading right for me, walking up an old logging road. I took my shot at what looked like the biggest Tom. Feathers flew, as my soft point .223 did its thing. The hens take off running, but the OTHER Tom starts flogging the one that I shot. It literally flogged this thing all the way down the mountain, and over a high wall. Probably 60 yards, or so. I follow the feathers down the hill, and sure enough, my kill was laying in a very thick briar patch, over the high wall. It was the funniest thing I had ever seen, turkey hunting. LMAO

    Well done video. $5 a shot shell is high, but like you said you might not shoot 2 or 3 of them a season. Here in Alabama we're allowed a total of 5 gobblers and I would be more than willing to pay $25 to shoot 5 gobblers.

    Color me impressed. Would have never thought that from a 410. Now you have me wanting to get one of those little "four hunerd and tens". :) I think shooting a 3/4" or 1" piece of pvc pipe would be interesting as well.

    Ive seen other videos of this round,but they were done by reps of the company...I was tickled to see Buffalo test it and give us an unbiased opinion..Seems like the reps were not exaggerating their claims on this one..

      Thank you. Some call it a gift. Some call it a curse. I don't think much of it. I just talk about different things and see how it goes. Sometimes it takes me down different roads that I didn't expect. Sometimes I just end up talking in circles but I always enjoy it. Everyone one around me loves it so it's really a win win. I mean sure every now and then I get accused of saying too much but you know how it is. Everyone has different tastes. Speaking of tastes I had the most delicious steak this evening. I grilled it right at medium rare and browned a few onions with it. Very nice. Well, sorry to cut my reply short but I reckon I should go ahead and get on off this here internet for the night. Have a good one and keep your head up. One day you may discover that you have a gift as well. When you do, please use it to make the world a better place. Again I thank you for your comment as sometimes people leave really negative comments on videos that they watch for free. It's the strangest thing. But your comment was nice recognizing my gift and all.

    I'm gonna sound dumb but growing up turkey shot was expensive so I used the steel shot (12 gauge) that I had for waterfowl, never gave me any problems. Although this whole hunting turkey with 410 seems pretty interesting, if nothing else could be a much lighter way to do things.

    That is an amazing demonstration my friend. Like you said, not for doves or targets, but dang, amazing for valuable game. I wonder if #3 or #4 buck would drastically increase the useful range of a 20 ga.

    • @buffalosoutdoors
      @buffalosoutdoors  Před 4 lety +1

      Good question. In KY we are limited to bird shot for turkeys but you may be speaking about just in general. I would have to set up the patterning targets and find out!

  • @bryanoliver5550

    Kinda ironic that your TriStar .410 is a true Turkey made shotgun . I like it and have thought of owning one myself one day , for the price it`s perfect . Good luck finding a Turkey , now that you are well prepared to take the Turkey home with you .

    I've been thinking about what you told me about good sound on videos, what mic do you use? I've been looking at different mics on Amazon

    • @buffalosoutdoors
      @buffalosoutdoors  Před 4 lety +1

      I actually record my audio separatley from the video. I wear a Rode SmartLav+ mic hooked into a Zoom H1n recorder and sync it up with the video later. That is my main set up. As far as my on camera microphone I like shotgun mics as they shut out a lot of background noise and pickup sound from directly in front of them. I have a Rode VideoMic that I use on the camera. If the Rode brand is too expensive check out a brand called BOYA on Amazon. I have had good results with those as well. On a side note DO NOT get the "Rode video mic GO". I had terrible results with that one.

    I have only used a 10GA for Turkey.... during my adolescence, the idea of a .410 for Turkey would have been laughed at. It’s kind of neat that technology is leading us in this direction.
