  • TriStar released the new Viper G2 .410 bore turkey shotgun for 2020 and I have one on loan at the Buffalo Range. This shotgun has all the features that make a good turkey shotgun and with the new TSS loads from Federal and others the .410 can get the job done out to 40 yards.

Mine is a G2 synthetic , 4 turkeys in 2 states last year while the pistol grips were limited production .4 of us are Running a Jebs Choke tube XFULL with Apex TSS # 9.5's and TSS #9's also some handload #9's they amounted for several kills last year . Just shot another camo tristar today and had some impressive numbers out of some DUPLEX TSS handload #10 x #9.5. ( 180+ pellets in 10 " circle ). Our season opens in 5 days and I will be toting it in 2 states this year also .
Last 3 yrs Tristar has had a booth next to us at NWTF Convention in Nashville . Garret ans his Dad listen to their customers , great people to deal with we really appreciate them !

I work with a fellow named Jesse Martin who has won many turkey calling championships. He didn't win this year in Nashville but he competed and had won several years in a row until this year. I didn't make it down there but I'd love to meet some of the guys that do this stuff full time behind the scenes. I appreciate the comment.

Buffalo- I have followed your 410 videos since waaaaaay back when you did some 410 slug videos with a Mossberg 500. Growing up in upstate NY, my teen years were spent with a beagle and a 410 in pursuit of rabbits. At the age of 16, I drooled over the Remington catalog dreaming of an 1100 semi. The 410 has always been very near and dear to my heart so when I saw your first review of this auto loader you had my attention. When you showed it’s slug shooting ability, you had me shopping! Seeing this with the pistol grip and Turkey choke, I’m SOLD!!!
Thank you for another amazing video!!

I'm not a hunter, but you put Tristar on the map for me. Over the last couple of years I have bought 3 Tristar trap and sporting over/unders and trap models (the TT-15 series). They are remarkable guns for clay shooting and they all retailed for less than a thousand ($). Great wood and I have shoot thousands of rounds through each. Great guns. They match up well with my Browning Cynergy CX (and they're not so "partsy"). Tristar does great work and keeps the prices competitive.

It likes Nitro Co.#9s and Apex Ninjas. Both is a pleasure to pack and has shown to be very deadly. There has been some cycling issues but after a good cleaning and filing of sharp edges and graphite they operate smoothly.

I wouldn't have ever considered a .410 for anything, being the most expensive shotgun to shoot for what I saw as a low yield shot really killed it for me. I once got a sweet trade on a beautiful Mossberg 500 .410 and it lasted about a week in the cabinet before it was traded off for something I wanted way more.

If I've read right they were sold over here as the armsan a363, they weren't overly reliable and were withdrawn from sale. Don't know if they have corrected it now or not.

Awesome shotgun! I love some 410. Have you checked out the Steves single shot 410 with the extra full turkey choke? They come camo & got that little pic rail on top? I think they run around $150. Wouldn't mind gettin my hands on one of those... The TS loads have changed the game!!! Great video 👍 thanks Buffalo.

Could you do a breakdown of this shotgun. I just got mine and shot it. It did really good. However, to disassemble this shotgun for cleaning was a little difficult compared to other shotguns I own. Setting the barrel back into the receiver is crazy. The instructions were not good.
    Love your videos.

It sure looks good. If someone can't get it done with the stock turkey choke, the aftermarket one won't help enough to make a difference. The blemishes are probably why it's a T & E.

Do you mean .410 gun FROM Turkey or .410 gun FOR Turkey? 😋
I'm too old to accept a .410 for Turkey hunting, but TriStar makes great shotguns. And your pattern results were impressive.
I now own 4 Turkish made guns, A TriStar TT15 "unsingle" trap gun (don't go spreading that around the skeet field that I sometimes shoot trap!) a pair of Tedna Excellence O/Us (bought one for my wife, liked it so much I bought another for me) and a Tisas BR 9 Browning HP clone. All are GREAT quality and excellent values.
I really want to add a couple of the TriStar autoloaders to my collection.
You are one of the few channels that often features TriStar guns. I attribute that to your superior intellect!

I tried sporting clays with my Mossberg .410 pump, and I was just wasting ammo lol. Maybe the full choke in it, or mayeb the fact it has fewer pellets... Trap isn't so bad, as long as the thrower is close, and hand thrown like you do.

I have seen more dedicated turkey rigs in 410, that surprises me as I would never thought of a turkey rig i that gauge, I expect in a tight enough choke it wold work, I have a Mossberg 500 pump 410 but it is not convertible chokes. I bought for a home defense rig , I have a screw on choke originally designed for a bolt action shotgun I picked up that I have thought of threading the barrel, I have already cut the choke off as I cut the barrel down to 18 inches for in home convenience, I do have a NEW Mossberg 500 in 410 as well. Wish I could find som 410 slugs, in the meantime a cut shell works OK. I like the oaks of this shotgun and if I could get for the store price you mentioned or near I would be a player.

NY allows anything for turkey to my knowledge, there is nothing in the regs about bore size for shotguns other than for deer. Shot sizes 8-2 are legal, although if you ask the ECO officers, a lot of them will tell you that 5s are the minimum (and they hate it when you show them the regs and prove them wrong). I would love to try tungsten shells, if there were more on the market in 8 shot.

This would also make one hell of a home defense gun with the turkey loads and chokes. If this is all you can afford and handle due to the recoil, those would be dead intruders instead of turkeys.

    • @buffalosoutdoors
      @buffalosoutdoors  Před 4 lety +1

I have made a couple of different choke videos but there is so much to explain. So many gray areas. A full choke tube doesn't necassarily give you a full choke pattern. Different shot sizes, hardness of shot, wads, and velocity all effect the size of the pattern. A modified choke with #4 lead might give you a modified pattern but #4 steel might throw a full choke pattern from that modified choke tube. I start talking in circles trying to explain everything, that's what's kept me from making an all inclusive choke video. Maybe I could break it down into bite sized pieces and do it that way in a series of videos. Thanks for the great suggestion.
