It seems to me and I am a old school hunter but these days a lot of people want to shoot at game to far and don’t want to do the work to get in close. It’s especially bad out west we’re I am with deer and elk guys taking shots at ridiculous ranges. Thanks for your wisdom and ethics we need more of that.

I agree with you. Any good 12 guage load will get the gobler at 40 yards. But that little 410 being a good turkey gun was sweet. My daddy taught that's the fun of hunting to get game as close as possible and make a good shot and a good harvest. I remember squirrel hunting in the 60 s with him and was so fun to sneak up as close as humanly possible to get a head shot with my single shot 22. Wouldn't let me use a shotgun tore up to much meat and there was 8 of us eating supper at night👍. As always you do Kentucky proud sir😛👍

That MOJO Outdoors Choke Tube is a must for turkey. What sets Mojo apart from their competitors, imo, is that the quality and fit and finish are outstanding, the choke actually extends far enough out of the barrel that the knurling becomes useful and they were nice enough to send one to Buffalo's Outdoors.

Absolutely no backlash should be given. Too many hunters want to take pictures with dead turkey and just want to kill and not hunt. So many people use the tss as a crutch for poor woodsmanship and calling...if I can't get him to 40, he won that day and I just get to call him and work him again another day. Outstanding review and great way to be about it.

I happen to agree with everything you said, 100%. I will be hunting my 30th year this year and the turkey population is clearly down here in South Carolina. I have no interest in shooting past 40 yards unless I do it by mistake but I miss calculating the distance. Because of that possibility I will likely shoot a federal TSS 12 gauge load that patterns well a little past 40 year yards with no interest of purposefully shooting beyond that. Thank you very much for the video! Very well done.

I agree 100% on your assessment on the 12 ga. I have shot and patterned several different loads and do not see a huge benefit to the Tss. However in the sub gauges especially in 20 ga there is a huge difference I found. Makes a youth model 20 ga as good as shooting a 12 ga without all that dreaded recoil. Love the videos and good luck!

Patterning shotguns with heavy field loads is NOT a pleasant recoil experience. A tip from John Alden Knight and also George "Bird" Evans is to use a step ladder as your "standing" bench. Your front arm/hand grips the shotgun at the ladder step that fits you and your placement of the shot is much better plus the mass of the ladder helps dampen the recoil a good bit.

Those types of federal shells I have found work best out of a cylinder bore choke or a improved cylinder. They where first developed for police 18in dash guns that where cylinder bore and shot like crap. I would be vary interested to see a improved cylinder VS the high dollar full choke that you used in this video. Not to take anything away from the high dollar one but I dont think it is necessary for the flight control shells. Great video I hope to see more in the future.

I have compared patterns with these and hevi shot magnum blend out to 70yds(just to check the hype). Had a more dense pattern with hevi shot at every range, than with TSS. All using the same Rob Roberts .660 choke. My normal shots are at 30-40yds but have taken one at 53 and it was a completely ethical kill, using the Hevi shot magnum blend. It's more expensive than your average turkey load but still cheaper than TSS. Great video though!

Nice video as always! If you come accross some NSI (Nobel Sport) Fast Magnum in 12Ga they are really great. Best patterning round I have tried in my 500 with a cylinder bore. Offers them in size BB or 0 depending on what you want to call it too, a really neat loading. Take care!

Thanks. I will keep an eye out for those. I always I always enjoy trying different shotshells to see what they can do.

I've looked at different places for this ammo, and there's really no bargains on it. The stuff is EXPENSIVE!

Great video Buff ! A lot of people think if they have a 12 gauge super pooper magnum shotgun they can take a poke the length of a football field! I have lost birds at 40 yards and it’s the stuff nightmares are made of because you hope you missed clean but you probably didn’t.

That being said. What do u normally use. A comparison video would be cool. I agree with the 40 yard limit.

Love your videos, but I have found in my experience that a choke tube counteracts the "flight control wode system " . The buckshot works better in cylinder bore. The tighter the choke the worse the pattern. Once again thanks for the video 👍

Hello and thanks for the great comment. I too have had much better patterns from the standard Flite Control wads in buckshot loads using cylinder bore. With this in mind I contacted Federal before I did this video and they assured me that the Federal TSS turkey loads had a new wad called the Flite Control Flex that would perform best with a turkey choke. It also says this on the actual box, I should have shown that in the video. I wish I had more of these to test through different chokes myself but I would quickly bankrupt my channel at 10 dollars a pop.

Impressive shotgun shells , you talk about hunters taking too long shots I totally agree , it’s the same what ever you hunt deer, waterfowl , etc , I put a lot into my field craft to get a animal close , with my camouflage, my decoys, my calling and my reconnaissance , doesn’t always work , but he be there for another day makes it more worth while sometimes , many thanks for the video

I agree 100%. My most memorable turkey hunts are the ones where I had to go back 3 or 4 times in a row and try different strategies until it finally comes together. Those are the hunts I will tell my grand kids about.
