Just for kicks I think it would be cool to see what pattern you get from a 3 inch wad cut once down the middle for a 2 pedal wad. Have you tried it before?
@@theshotgunscientists Cool thanks. I saw it in a wad brochure from bpi but nobody ever uses it that ive seen. I was wondering what application it has 👍
Us a brass tumbler that vibrates like crazy two seconds with your hull on that and your buffer will infiltrate your shot in a hurry! If you don’t have that get mom’s back massager 😂
The “massager” trick works amazingly well. Just can’t show it on CZcams. In my newer videos when I cut the camera after dropping the buffer in, that’s what I use lol.
@@theshotgunscientists That’s awesome 😎 the wife and I where just laughing about the fact if you found something like that when you where a kid the explanation was always Mom’s “ Back massager” lmao 🤣
Have a bunch of 2 3/4" 1 1/2 ounce Super X turkey loads that have to be salvaged. Heads are too badly rusted on some to simply polish off. What other hulls have the same capacity as those Super X 🦃?
@@theshotgunscientists That is what I had hoped to do. Is there any issue with straight versus tapered on the wad? Also I bought some Winchester 209s that were labeled for muzzleloader use. Is there any difference in brisance or are they just a regular 209?
@@johnnorman7708 The super x hulls are straight wall unless you have the old ones which are really just high brass AA hulls. If that’s the case those are tapered. Muzzloading 209’s half like half the power of a regular 209 and to use them with smokeless powder would require a fast powder like red dot or clays.
@@theshotgunscientists The Super X hulls are the newer style with ridge lines within the last 10 years or so and not the old smooth slick ones. So the muzzleloader 209s will be reserved for easy ignition flake powders in lighter loads. I'm assuming Unique ignites in shotshells about as well as Red Dot even though it is a bit slower?
@@theshotgunscientists appreciate the quick reply. I was curious mainly because I have pretty much all my loads needed for duck, small game etc. but turkey load have been a hard one to find especially with the hulls I have. Wouldn’t happen to know any other places I can find them do you?
@@furfeatheroutdoors8681 we actually just did a turkey load video and posted it last week if you want to check it out. The trick is using an extra full choke with a non toxic style wad like the lbc50 or tps wads with buffer. 1100-1300 fps will get you the best patterns.
Another quick question for you. Do you know about what pressure your getting out of this? That’s the main reason I’ve been worried about not having load data is not over pressuring
Get you a cheap vibrator. Hold the shell against it and it will vibrate it in place. They make a special vibrating plate thing that’s expensive specifically for buffer. Vibrator works well. You just may not want to show it on camera!
These are 1 7/8 ounce loads.
is the 1 7/8 ounce counting the buffer or just lead
@@brandoncook2461 counting just the lead. Either way should be fine though. Maybe drop back .5 a grain.
thanks just really getting into loading. i like your videos
. . . . _good narration, you sound like the Red and Green show narrator_ . . . .
Nice vid bro. I use candle wax for buffer. It does a really good job, and helps water proof the shell. You should try it sometime.
I use a old cheap electric beard trimmer to vibrate my buffer in place. Works Great !!
Good idea man I’ll give that a shot
Thanks. Very helpful.
Thanks man
👍👍👍
I use a palm sander without sandpaper to tamp down buffer.
That would do it

I’ll try it with a tps. The mg42 does have 2 slits but isn’t as tight patterning as the tps wads are.
@@theshotgunscientists Cool thanks. I saw it in a wad brochure from bpi but nobody ever uses it that ive seen. I was wondering what application it has 👍
What wads did you say you were using?
Tps and mg42

Cheddite. I’d just take the components out of the Winchester hulls and put them in a Cheddite. The primers may still be good too.

Just curious is this a load out of PBI book or one you’ve came up with?
Just one I came up with going off of published data. If you have felt or fiber wads use those instead of nitro cards just to make things easier.

Yeah I know, electric toothbrush works too lol.
So I have a question does powder weight change for tss or does it stay the same as lead or copper plated
Changes.
Would like to have watched you pattern test e'm.
Working on that. We’ve been mostly sawing logs lately so not a whole lot of time to shoot.
Take a large 4 blade broadband a shove down into the wad and it will give you 4 perfect cut lines.
I have dedicated wad slitters now
You always try Slitting them1/4 or 1/3 way down depwnding on Amount of Choke Constriction.
We usually go with 4 petals and 3/4 slits
