  • In 1965 Toehead White made some big moves at the state line. He was involved with the Red Carpet Casino Robbery as well as the Three State Moonshine Operation. The two events led to his arrest and prosecution. It was also during this time that many believe Toehead married Louise Hathcock before reporting to prison. This episode also examines Tommy Bivins role at the state line,

    Thanks for the info Dennis and Mike;
    It reminds me when my wife and I lived in Corinth (actually Farmington) from early 1981 to late 1984, if you wanted a drink of liquor you'd likely go to the Holiday Inn on Rt.72 west. You could by bottled liquor at state run stores that could sell nothing but liquor; no cigarettes, candy, etc. I remember one such store you'd walk in and up to a counter; on the wall behind the counter were all the liquors on display, one bottle each. Each bottle had it's own number. I.e.; Jack Daniels # 22, Smirnoff Vodka # 8, and so on. You'd say: "I'd like a number seventeen" they'd go behind the wall to an unseen to the public area, come out with your chosen bottle, wrap it up securely, you'd pay, they'd give you your purchase and off you'd go. If we wanted beer, we'd drive up to the state line at the old Shamrock or across the highway at the Shell gas station and carryout and buy by the 6,12,or case.

    I was told a little different version of how the robbery happened at The Red Carpet. Carl Towhead White, Jerry James, and another gentleman lost some money and realized they were being cheated and wanted there money back. Jerry James and the other gentleman who was found dead some years later stuck up the place and a deputy sheriff (the bag man) coming through the door. Supposedly Carlos Marcello was hot at Harry Bennett for not kicking the money back once he knew these were serious people.

    Towhead was the whole problem. Before he got cocky everything was pretty much controlled. He wanted moonshine, he wanted drugs. Louise was a devil woman herself but Jack tempered it all. Then they killed him and all hell really broke loose without Jack.

      Dennis has a lot of first hand information and has pointed me to sources on both the state line AND law enforcement sides of the story. The never claims that his relatives were angles, only that their stories of criminal activities were embellished to make make Buford look like the hero he never was. I was amazed when I started researching this story of how many law enforcement officer knew Buford was corrupt and disliked him.

      There was no real life John Witter Pinking Dobson etc. These to characters were used to look like others. Witter was supposed to be a fix and white collar criminal. The real Toehead had no political connections as Witter did in the movies.
      Pinking Dobson was also made to look like some sort of organized and displayed traits of Toehead White and Paul David English. For instance, English actually escaped from the McNairy county Jail much like White escaped from a hospital with under guard. Buford also shot English during a car chase similar to what was shown in the movies. There were difference in the circumstances however as the actual story was manipulated to shore up Pusser's reputation as a hero.

  • @likesanddislikesetc
    @likesanddislikesetc Před rokem +5

    I feel deceived after watching the movies. Walking Tall never had any true portrayals of the state line such as Towhead White. The element of criminality in the movies was presented as more of an organized crime system ran by higher ups out of state- like the actual mafia. Louise’s death in the movie was nothing at all the way I’ve read about. Plus, it never shows how Buford and his father were the police chiefs of Adamsville; it made them out to be sawmill operators.
    Then the made of character of John Witter was another thing that I could not understand.

    I have watched all of the videos and from what I see the author has an agenda to gaslight everyone and make it look like the bad guys were little angels serving tea and finger sandwiches when they weren't robbing or killing each other. This guy is detached from the truth and needs a outlandish gimmick to sell books. The lying gimmick is that Buford was the bad guy. I am nearly 66 and I know better. This story time fable reminds me of the guy who wrote a book on the JFK killing and said it was a secret service agent accidently discharged his AR15 striking the President. I get enough gaslighting from the right wing MAGA bunch and I smell a rat.

      I read your comment and what I see is someone who is incapable of examining evidence. Actually, the TBI has asked to see my files and has already statements from people who I found that were not known nor questioned by the TBI in 1967. The truth is Buford was just one of the bad guys in a true story that had no heroes. What is your gimmick other than speaking of things you obviously have never researched and know nothing about?
