  • This episode is about the death of Louise Hathcock. Was her death the result of justifiable homicide or was she murdered by Sheriff Buford Pusser. See what her autopsy report shows, the one the grand jury investigating her death did not see. Her what a witness had to say about the shots fired and what Chief Deputy Jim Moffett told his wife and son afterward.

Mike, as Bufford's deputy told Louise was drunk and tried to kill him, Bufford walked tall and fired back. The autopsy showed she was drunk like the deputy said and he dug out her round.

And some people on here saying, you need to get justice for Louise Hathcock, she was a criminal, a bad one Deputy Plunk said that he would rather have Al Capone chasing him than her. So that tells me a little bit.

I don't know enough about Toehead or W.O. to form a definitive opinion, and I want to be respectful because Dennis is still alive; but I believe if Buford hadn't killed Louise then someone else would have. Between people losing their shirts due to the Razzle (Dazzle) game, and others being slipped Mickeys and having money and belongings disappear, Louise was stacking up enemies like cordwood.
I think as long as she was just playing the Razzle (Dazzle) game and selling under-the-table hooch, Buford looked the other way as long as she was paying her "dues." But drugging and rolling her guests may have been too much for Buford to condone.
Buford was no Eagle Scout to be sure but he was a businessman, and the reports of frequent thefts at the Shamrock would bring too much negative publicity to the area. Did Louise die that night because Buford told her to stop drugging and rolling her clientele, and in a drunken rage she told him where to get off? STTA.

I know this is off subject but my grandpa. Harpert Buell sipes a longtime resident of McNairy county Tennessee was hit by a car as he was walking on the side of South highway 45 on December 6th 1966 . My grandpa was a preacher and he was also a womanizer and I'm thinking this was not an accident it was very suspicious even though they said he was hit by a drunk driver while walking on the side of the road... I guess this is listed in the Jackson Sun newspaper December 7th 1966 but I don't know how to bring that up .... when i was a young boy buford was a hero to me. I drove to mcnairy county tn to see his home ect. I watched the movie countless times. When i got older and paid more attention to detail it states a fictional account inspired by events. This the movie wasn’t factual keeps being repeated. When some speaks ill of Buford mike perks up. loves it. just an observation. I will say I myself saw it odd to allow your wife to ride along pre dawn to a disturbance call knowing the “dixie mafia” has been after you. Just doesn’t make sense. Aside from that I just dont think buford would be smart enough to stage an ambush then shoot his own face away. You would have to a genius to get that by competent investigators. The Hathcock shooting seems like a lotta bullets and falling all over a small room but i wasn’t there. The car wreck that took his life was depicted as foul play. I just believe he had a lead foot and lost control driving at high speeds. maybe alcohol was involved. I really dont think he was run off the road or steering tampered with. Was the movie true? Absolutely not. was it entertaining. yes. Was buford a bad ass. most likely. I do think WO Hathcocks son Dennis is being as honest as his memory is but alot is what he heard

My suggestion to you would be to find a professional videographer or editor to spice up your videos. They are interesting but a bit dry. I mean that as politely as possible. Just that your videos would attract a lot more attention in a world of short attention spans if you had punchier videos, music and editing.
I feel like you are sitting on a hugely popular Netflix style documentary with the right partner.
I mean this to be helpful and positive, not critical. I don’t mean to offend.
I feel like you are an outstanding researcher and reporter but finding a partner that can edit the videos to be more attention getting would benefit you greatly.
Regardless, I’m enjoying your content. Keep up the great work. Think that I may go get your book.

Back in them days if sheriff said it happened that way that is the way it happened with a big period at the end..Them days we would been lucky in my home county if we had 2 squad cars running in the whole county. Times has sure changed a lot from them days. I was a little kid in 1960’s it was common to practice shooting guns beside the road. Common set beside the road driving beer & drag racing at night after like 11 o’clock. No traffic unless a Grayhound bus coming through or coal miners going or coming home in my area.

I disagree. He is obviously extremely biased. He wrote a book about it. Not that there is anything wrong with bias. Everyone has it and I do not have a dog in the fight. I will say that the Dunning-Krueger effect is very evident in Mr Elam's interpretation( especially of the autopsy report-that was cringeworthy). Humans have a natural tendency towards conspiracy theories especially the uneducated. And the internet has made this all the more apparent. There is no doubt that there is probably a little truth on both sides of this saga. In a perfect world there would be people who didn't think the earth was flat, that man didn't land on the moon, and that there was a 'second' shooter on the grassy knoll. We can dream.........

GLOCK Good comment and I agree. I believe the truth is somewhere in the middle. Buford Pusser was neither a hero or a fraud. I don't recall Buford Pusser ever claiming to be a hero. He even said the movie about his life was exaggerated. He was for sure big strong and tough by all accounts but that doesn't necessarily add up to being a hero. As far as being corrupt I doubt he was any more corrupt than the rest. He was just human and flawed like the rest of us. It's just sad and pathetic that people are making money and gaining fame off of trashing his name. Especially since he is not here to defend himself

The statement about the .38 special's report is manipulated by the poster. Hathcock's pistol was alleged to be a snub nosed pistol. A layman two rooms away would not be able to distinguish the report of a .38 short barreled pistol as opposed to the report of a .41 magnum or .41 special pistol with a 6-8" barrel, especially if those weapons were fired away from the location of the hearer.
As to indicting sheriff Pusser, the old saying is that a competent prosecutor can indict a ham sandwich if they chose to. A grand jury is a one sided exercise slanted in the favor of the state, so the fact that the sheriff wasn't prosecuted speaks volumes as to his guilt of criminality in Hathcock's death.
