Brian Dennehy was the perfect actor for this movie. He is one of my all time favorite's. He said he never took acting lessons. He worked as a truck driver and a cab driver as well as doing 5 years in the Marine Corps. And if I remember correctly he was also a bartender. Lol. He did it the hard way--he EARNED his fortune.

He was perfect in every role. It was like he was not acting , it felt like he was that character in real life, if you know what I mean.
Please tell me more about life in America back then as far as the law is concerned.

Walking Tall is the best biography of Bufford Pusser. This movie gets 5/5 rotten tomatoes.
Brian Dennehey is a good actor, though. This movie was just extremely poorly written.

@@robertcook9446 It was ' Pusser' not Dennehy, who was only an actor playing a part. Pusser never never got through U.S.M.C. boot camp. He ' supposedly ' had asthma which he never had symptoms of before nor after through the remainder of his life. Pusser was a liar, a phoney, and a proven CRIMINAL !!!! Pusser never ' walked tall '...he ' walked crooked ' !!!!

0:11 - Buford Pusser: “The wrong kind of people have had their say for too long and I want to remind them that somewhere in this world there is a little law and order left - to let them know in the only way their kind understands, that they can’t bribe or threaten their way and they will damn well pay dearly for every crime they commit.”

Back when a community came together, a Sheriff actually cared for his people and would make sure everyone was held accountable for their crimes. I remember my Chief of Police in mentor on the lake in the 70's and he was not only a badass but fair and made sure our little (at the time) city was ran fair and just.

The former sheriff of my home county is an old fashioned guy. Back years ago during the ammo shortage he had to ask private citizens if the sheriff's department could borrow some ammo of various kinds. We all lent his department. what they needed because we knew if we needed anything, all we had to do was ask. He told us, back when they were talking gun confiscation, that any feds that show up to try to confiscate guns from law abiding citizens, who have done no wrong, WILL be arrested. He said if it comes down to a shoot out with the feds, his department would be blazing away right there with us. And, I have heard of several sheriff's around the country saying similar things.

Although it kind of made Sheriff Pusser look a little bit " country bumpkin", Brian Dennehy Was a Very Good actor. RIP SHERIFF PUSSER

Coincidentally, he mentions Grady to Buford. Ed Call also played Johnny Depp's father in the original Nightmare On Elm Street.
