    Thank you for making these videos. Mechanic shop told me 1200 dollars to do it. It took me 5 1/2 hours and 90 dollars in parts and got it filled up with Freon for 50 dollars so a total of 140 bucks. You saved me a lot of money. And anyone scared to do it just do it it’s not that bad. Mine is a 4 door so the vents that run to the back are a little aggravating but you have 3 Phillip head screws in the middle and once you take those out it comes out easy but the vents on the side at the bottom are still a little hard.

    I have a 4500 that I've now done brakes on (after buying the $400 of Mopar special tools) by watching Dave's videos, and today I replaced the heater core (pulled dash etc). So far Dave has saved me about $3600 this year alone. I worked as a mechanic for 10 years but to have these clear, concise, to-the-point videos is a game changer. Phenomenal videography, lighting, sound, etc coupled with a professional explanation of how to tackle these jobs!
    Thanks Dave!!!

    DAVE, YOU ARE THE MAN! After replacing everything else for the AC unit, over the past 6 years, I was dreading this job on a Laramie w/ center console because I could never fix a leak. I kick myself for not doing this sooner, since the evap had 4 holes in it (disgusting mess and 3/4 blocked up). I was able to do this work over a weekend, took a bit longer because I wiped down/vaccumed all the dust and debris from everything. My advice to anyone, BE CAREFUL with the steering column drop, I was removing by myself and the dash tilted left and snapped off my washer stalk (left side of steering wheel). Other than that, it was just time consuming. Appreciate the video!

    Thank you so much for this. Saved me so much money! Needed to repair the evaporator so my kids weren't breathing R134A everytime we went out. It was my first time and I got it done in about 4 hours. I also had the full length center console and shifter to remove. Really appreciate your attention to detail and tips. Rear air vents held me up getting the air box out (quad cab,) but once I figured that out I was good to go. Thanks again!

    Thank you for this! Saved me a bunch of money. I did it with a broken arm (seriously). The hardest part was the pesky floor vents (crew cab) and getting the clamps back on the heater core tubes. Couldn’t have done it so quickly had I not watched these videos. I think it took me about two hours to get the dash and heater box out. Would have been nice if there was a plug for the center harness to remove the dash completely. Thank you, again.

Probably never would have attempted it without your help. Wow, what a professional production. Keep it up man, I'm sure you're helping thousands of people. • @sawdustj
      @sawdustj Před 6 lety

      The center console was a bit tricky to get out. I ended up taking the seats out, mostly just to give myself more room to work. There are two bolts low down on the console near the rear that are a bit tight to get to. I probably could've fussed with it and managed, but I opted not to. Removing the gear shift linkage was a bit tricky too. The other notable difference was under the hood. In your video, the diesel you were working on had a coolant reservoir mounted on the firewall. On the hemi the coolant reservoir is up beside the rad. In its place though is an ignition/control module (I think). It had to be removed from the firewall to get at one of the two stud/nuts protruding through the firewall. Still though, your video was a huge help. Thunbs up!

    well it took all my weekend but I did it! mad love to Dave/motor city mechanic for taking the time for noobs like myself who aren't the typical every day DIY when it comes to working on cars. Dave my man, u saved me about $800 by making this video. I took "Beast Nasty" to my mechanic today to recharge the system & check for leaks...waiting for the verdict was nerve racking. But I got the thumbs up! All good to go! It's been 2 long summers since I last felt my truck shooting out cold a/c. & knowing that I did it was gratifying & made all the frustrating moments like looking for that last hidden nut on the firewall being the engine controller, trying to disconnect the heater hose w/ absolutely no wiggle room, & cramming the AC ducts/vents back in place worth it! You don't have to be a pro to do this guy's, just takes time, patience & of course the right tools.

    I have 2014 Ram 1500. The AC when the truck is not moving, stop light etc blows warm air. The cool air starts again when rolling. It's 120 sometimes in the summer where I live. Not good. I took it to the dealer they charged me 160 for AC service and did nothing. Any ideas what that might be. I'd like to fix it. Thanks

    Hey thank you for the awesome videos on this!
    Is this a similar procedure for the heater core? I would assume the heater core is in that same box as the AC unit that you changed, Would I still have to drain the Freon to change the heater core? Or could the heater core be removed while that box it's still in the truck?
    Thank you for your time

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  Před 5 lety +1

      All the steps weill be the same except you dont have to seperate the box to get the heater core out....it slides out. You have to unbolt the box from the fire wall and pull it out the way....at that point it would be easiest to remove from the truck and remove the heatercore. Freon has to be removed as well. Getting ready to do this on my 2012 Ram 1500, when I run the AC I can smell something funny in the car, kind of smells like refrigerant, does that mean that I have a leak in my evaporator core? I only smell it after I put another can of refrigerant in the truck. I know it's strange but the smell kind of smells like a farm animal, LOL

      If its no longer blowing cold air out and only warm air and your getting a smell......sounds like its low on freon or empty. I say that based on you saying there is no pressure on the high or low side. The smell leads more towards an evaporator leaking. Of course it will require some further checking to be sure but I feel its a good place to start looking. Thanks for watching and foe the comment. Dont forget to subscribe.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  Před 7 lety

      If it happens all of a sudden then it could be a broken door or something else blocking the air flow. Just make sure you hear the blower working at the usual speed (sound) and then may take some looking behind the glove box at the air inlet for the cabin. The door issue isnt that common on the 2013 models however

      There is a good chance of an actuator or broken door. Recalls will be safety related the majority of the time. Its one of those things thats out of our hands and up to Chrysler to decide if it gets recalled. The government only regulates the safety related items. WIsh it wasnt that way but I have no power over that.
