      The lower floor beams are made of high strength steel - this is not something you easily cut or drill... When you got problems to drill and need multiple drills, it is most likely high strength steel.
      Refering spotwelding, be careful - the spotweld quality and fatigue performance depends on multiple factors. Depending on the steel grade, sheet thickness and layers you have to adjust the voltage and pressure during spotwelding. It influences also the spot diameter and its depth.
      However crazy and impressive what you are doing .... respect

      @@Lamster66 £500k?! Hollmann International has been trying to sell a Mansory Wraith for ages for £369,000. It's a 2021, but it's not a damaged vehicle rebuilt with old parts and a rear quarter from a Wraith that's been underwater. People who buy Mansory's cars usually buy them new, with completely bespoke interiors etc, not a well documented wrecked one rebuilt by a CZcamsr. That's not a criticism of Mat; he's produced a fantastic amount of content and revenue out of it and I've no doubt the videos have already paid for the Wraith by now.

    • @byteme9718
      @byteme9718 Před měsícem

      @@schrodingerscat1863 When Rolls-Royce were using it they paid out £millions in lead defect related repairs. It used to be necessary on older cars because of the poor standard of the Pressed Steel Fisher bodies to correct panel gaps and fill joins. Lead doesn't flex in the same way steel does and movement in the shell caused leaded areas to crack where body flex was concentrated. The upper rear 1/2 to roof joint was one such area and production changes saw this changes from a lead filled lap joint to a gas flux-brazed joint which you can see in this video.
      Where lap joints are filled with lead they quickly begin to corrode as the first step uses an acid flux tinning compound. This is wiped off however it permeates the join through capillary action. If you were to lead an area today, when you come back tomorrow, all surrounding bare metal will have a thin layer of corrosion on it unless the area in neutralised.
      While wiping the lead to shape it, tallow is used and this remains in any areas of porousity. No matter how much you clean the finished area the tallow can find it's way to the surface later causing blisters in the paint. The best way to offset this by using a layer of plastic filler over it which calls into question whether lead was ever needed.
      Lead has it's uses, this example was not one of them.

    • @schrodingerscat1863
      @schrodingerscat1863 Před měsícem

      @@byteme9718 Ok but it's still being applied as it would have been back in the day which is what I was talking about. They know what they are doing, old skills like this are rare to find now. Also the reason to use lead in the first place is not to get filler settling over time leaving hollows in the finish. That isn't such an issue these days with modern epoxy fillers of course.

    • @byteme9718
      @byteme9718 Před měsícem

      @@schrodingerscat1863 Fillers don't settle when used correctly. P & A Wood carry out the best Rolls-Royce restorations in the world and it's common to see most of the surface of a car skimmed with filler because they level the surface without settling while paint systems do. I've told you how it was "back the day" but feel free to believe what these clowns say and do. THIS car would not have used lead so why used a poor product from a previous era?
      You don't have clue and these guys are way out of their depth. The insurance company should have had the car crushed to prevent it being returned to the road in a substandard condition. The change in plan regarding the wheel arch is almost certainly because Rolls-Royce wouldn't sell it.
      I've worked in the official dealer network for many years and travelled the world putting right other people's cock ups. I've tried to educate you regarding just a few problems lead causes, if you don't want to learn that's your choice.

The sight of the lead filling reminded me that in 1979 as part of my supervisory training I was in charge of the materials handling section of the Rolls Royce BIW (body in white)building at the Pressed Steel factory in Cowley, Oxford. It was said that each Rolls Royce body that left the plant for either Crewe or occasionally Mulliner Park Ward contained at least 76Lbs of lead. So the little bit you used is not going to make much difference. It was used to ensure that all door shuts were the right size and that all external joints filled like you did. Keep up the videos.

      There is a reason that section is glued and riveted where it meets the sill and by mig welding (plug welds) the heat can and will weaken that area of the ultra high strength steel (this being the sill) you’re welding to.
      MiG welding UHSS or boron steel is a big no no.

    Hey Mat, I hope you'll see this and read it.
    1st, I can not thank you enough for all the hard, smart, and genuineness of your work. You've reached millions of people all over the world, and you're changing people's lives -for good- of course!
    2nd: You inspired me to buy a crashed car and rebuild as my personal daily driving car (2016 Subaru Legacy 2.5i, 1 year now, I've put around 28K miles on, and it runs very smoothly).
    3rd: I think I have an idea of how much work one part could take, even for an experienced lad. The way you're going is lethal and could have some serious effects on your health. I don't want you to be in that position.
    Please, do consider giving yourself and the team good balance. A 25-minute video might seem not too long, but if people understand how much time you'll need to put on it; they'll excuse you for not uploading for a while.
    If you have to, or whoever you need it; trust me, mate, your health really truly matters the most.
    This is the only joy that's left for me.....
    Be safe, be well....
    Greetings from the US to the whole team 🎉
    Cheers 🍻

Also impressive, the craftsmanship of the workshop there. Lead-work is one of the most difficult "lost" arts. But then again it's actually no surprise. .GB once had a huge car manufacturing industry. It's in your blood. I take off my hat to you all from one car manufacturer's country (ger) to another. What a job. Jesus. Well done.

    I'm helping my son inlaws dad with his 1970 Z28 Camaro that he has had since he was in his
    20s we decided to replace the 2 rear quarters as they had only small amounts of rust that could have been fixed with just a few small patches but decided to go the full quarters
