Zucker's shrug after Binnington skates by never fails to absolutely kill me, love that guy
Greiss falling down made me do a spit take in laughter. Zucker's shrug made me snort my drink out my nose, though.
Someone should have put in the Curb Your Enthusiasm music!
Very memeworthy.
It’s an all time hockey gif. The perfect reaction to a baby losing his mind and throwing a tantrum
@@AEMoreira81 Or put in a sound byte of Fat Tony saying "What? What did I do?" during the shrug. Absolute classic. lmao
"He's hurt maybe. No he is just embarrassed." Is a quote to live by.
Love Bob Errey. I was so pissed that I couldn't load the Penguins broadcast on Hulu until after the game was over. Had to deal with the STL broadcast. :/ Oh, well. At least it was better than nothing and I still got to see Baby Binnington's karma get handed to him by Zucker. lol
6:08 & 6:43 fer the quote.
I was looking through the Matheson trip frame by frame and it looked like he lost an edge when he was crossing over before making contact with Petterson’s stick.
The trip wasent Pete's fault but there's an argument for Pete slashing him as Matheson is falling down
my first thought as well, looks like he might have fallen regardless
I agree here. To me it looks like Matheson had just started falling before the stick contact.
@@reddot8605 i don’t know if i’d even consider that a slash it looked like a soft tap
@@codykruger6515 Exactly, not even close to a slash.
That unlucky bounce on Hart is like the most quintessentially Flyers goal against. It encapsulates their season perfectly lol
I'm a lightning fan and I felt bad for him. That was one of the freakiest goals I've ever seen. It just dribbled down the skate.
Gonna be on Tree’s video on the season review.
@@JohnRodriguesPhotographer Bolts (Cernak) scored on Binnington from center ice last year when the puck hit a stanchion and went thru him. That was way more satisfying than this. I felt bad for Hart here, he was playing an outstanding game in net, despite what the score showed, it should have been 8 or 9 to zilch at that point in the 3rd.
I feel like Flyers fans say the same thing every year.
@@TheLastPariah89 "I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed in you."
6:09 "And Merzlikins is hurt... maybe... no he's just embarrassed" is legit one of the best calls I've heard this year.
I don't think Merzy should be embarrassed there, now... the rest of the team, it has been sad. Merzlikins has been playing poorly this year but that was actually a pretty goid effort to save that stupid turn over
Matheson was 100% already in the middle of blowing a tire. Clean play by Petterson.
As a habs fan, that was not a trip on matheson, he was already falling over. That's the real dang-it, falling over and giving the puck away.
Totally agree. And then he gets up and looks around like Chicken Little after a freak acorn storm.
@@timapple6586 👍😆
Definitely wasn’t a trip. I even put the playback speed on .25 during the close up angle and Matheson was indeed blowing a tire and was already starting to go down before Petterson taps him with the stick. Good non call for sure.
Agree 100%! That's exactly what happened and the ref was spot on with no call.
He didn’t even blow a tire. It was embellishment.
@@Rex73777 It wasn't embellishment, he just fell by himself.
Doesn't matter if he had already blown a tire there was a clear slash against the knee. Should have been a penalty. No goal.
@@mattpovah5952 nope. Look again. Use the angel showing matheson skating towards the camera at 19:37 put the video in .25 you can see him already starting to fall he’s almost completely sideways and Petterson taps him in the hip with his stick. Definitely didn’t slash the knee.
“But the communication could have been something along the lines of WHY ARE YOU OUT OF THE NET?!” 😂
As a goalie I was always under the impression that I was able to throw the puck forward either to a teamate or out of the zone. I know I’ve done it multiple times and was never given a penalty for it. Justice for Gibson
not gonna lie, I thought the same. I thought it just wasn't done because you have so little control throwing it like that you're probably more likely to inadvertently toss it to the opposition. I didn't think goalies were subject to the hand pass rule because Goalies knock it down with their glove/catch it and drop for their players to play all the time without touching it with their stick first.
@@bryanlane679 Excluding the fact that there are no hand passes in your own zone, I'm just as confused. Goalies ARE allowed to close their hands on the puck compared to players, and can drop/toss it to a player on their team in their zone. So what exactly is illegal in the Gibson play? The fact that he threw it overhand? It can't be a directional thing because goalies underhand drop/toss the puck to their team mates all the time.
I feel this one needs a deeper definition/clarification from refs.
EDIT - RULE 67.3 Minor Penalty - Goalkeeper - The object of this entire rule is to keep
the puck in play continuously and any action taken by the goalkeeper
which causes an unnecessary stoppage must be penalized without
warning. A delay of game penalty shall be assessed to a goalkeeper
who:
(i) Holds the puck with his hands for longer than three seconds unless he
is actually being checked by an opponent.
(ii) Deliberately holds the puck in any manner which, in the opinion of the
Referee, causes an unnecessary stoppage of play;
(iii) Throws the puck forward towards the opponent’s net;
NOTE: In the case where the puck thrown forward by the
goalkeeper being taken by an opponent, the Referee shall allow
the resulting play to be completed, and if goal is scored by the nonoffending team, it shall be allowed and no penalty given; but if a
goal is not scored, play shall be stopped and a minor penalty shall
be imposed against the goalkeeper
"Forward towards to opponent's net" is the part I can see they'd claim, but it was clearly NOT going towards the opponents net (it was almost shot at a 45 degree angle) and it was clearly moved forward to his teammate.
Yeah, as long as it's in the defensive zone, it should be fine as far as I know
Goalies catch the puck then toss it to a teammate to keep play going on a regular basis, so yeah, didn't know that's a penalty.
Fair but if the Puck crosses the blue line ad a result of a hand pass the play is whistled down. They can pass it with their hands in the defensive zone, not outside of it. Like the trapezoid for goalies
I'm all for allowing goalies to pass the puck like that, will make for some great hockey & content
You aren't using the phrase wrong. The hilt (rarely called a haft or shaft) of a knife, dagger, sword, or bayonet is its handle, consisting of a guard, grip and pommel. The important bit there is guard. The phrase plays on the part of the hilt that protects the hand and fingers. So if you'll defend it to the hilt you'll use the entire length of your blade/everything you have to defend it.
I'm surprised that neither a) Montembault giving the puck away to Studnicka or b) Quinn Hughes scoring on his own net made it in here
Also this
so many dang-its in this game.
The Holl and Suzuki hand passes are so funny. I love hearing Steve giggle. Truly it is reaction when a flying puck is coming at you....Steve: DONT THROW THE PUCK. Holl: crap this isn't baseball.
You might wanna keep that giggle thing under your hat for now.
@@timapple6586 Could be a hat pick 😂
*BLUE JAYS SCOUT:* Kid, I saw you at the game today and I think you got talent!
@@jimb.7523 The Rockies are now looking at Gibson for 1B.
Also a dang-it in that Canucks-Habs game was Quinn Hughes scoring on his own net to make it 6-5 Montreal
Or Studnicka scoring on a “TEND THE GOAL” moment for Montreal.
Or montembeault not tending the goal for the 6-6 goal
The real dang it is the Nashville Predators playing 3 games in 2 WEEKS
Wasn't that because there was a water main break and the games were postponed?
@@jennifermorris9985 yes
@@jennifermorris9985 that was the cause for one of them, the second one is a mystery
@@jaxsoule4580 2 were postponed for the water main break. Back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday.
15:06 "to the hilt" means all the way... because when using a sword, you use the blade tip and edge all the way to the hilt.. especially when running it through someone. Once you've watched enough Knight movies and learned enough history, say Joan of Arc, Templars, King Arthur, Arabian knights etc
Elvis tried SO HARD to stop that. I absolutely respect the effort.
Not a trip. Matheson just lost his edge at a BAD time. As a Habs fan, that game was an emotional roller coaster.
Steve imitating a rubber chicken absolutely killed me. Thank you for that. For me, it's that the kids got a hold of the chicken to try and make the dog play with it, and now they love the sound . . . . yeah.. not that that's ever happened to me before or anything. A friend said that once...
Or when the Mythbusters got a hold of those rubber chickens (duck bomb in his case).
I watched that replay of the “non call” in the habs loss in ot. Watch Matheson’s right skate at .25 playback speed. He blew his edge before any stick contact was made. And the contact was minimal and on the knee. Really good non call
I am guenuinely curious about how many people got the "Quack Quack Quack Mr. Ducksworth" bit. Good stuff Steve
Gordon, stop quacking
Our childhood is showing
The best part of that binnington sequence was the penguins guy on the left very sweetly waving goodbye to him 😂😂 (the shrug was pretty great too though)
Honestly though, what was he saying to them?? Like “oh no you guys suck even though I’m the goalie who just got pulled cause you scored”
I actually heard he was going back and forth with the guy he hit with his glove. One of the color commentators said something along those lines.
As a Habs fan. This was absolutely not a trip, this was just a big Matteson dangit
As a Blues fan, I'll always remember what he did for us in the 2019 finals, but right now he's down right embarrassing and Army needs to have a little sit down with him.
Maybe Berube needs to suit up in practice and hand his ass to him a couple of times to remind him why the term "goalie fight" is humorous.
He’s capable of greatness. We’ve all seen it in many games. I hope he can be more self aware and get back to making insane saves. He’s too good to throw it all away with these dirty pool moves.
I'm embarrassed with him, but honestly I also kinda feel bad for him. He was easily the best player on the ice for the better part of the season so far, but even 2 Andre Vasilevskys staggered up couldn't do anything to make up for the laughable excuse of a defense the Blues had. Binner's best performance this season gets thrown in the flames behind a bunch of pylons, so obviously over time the frustration is gonna set in and his game is gonna drop.
As soon as it does, I know he likes to do these antics to "send a message" and "fire up his team," (reference that sharks game where he took a swipe at EK65 and almost fought Dubnyk, a game where the Blues came back to win after an embarrassing performance before Binner got chased), but honestly, the shit's way too much and is doing nothing more than adding to an already negative reputation he has.
So really it just turns to embarrassment. It's still embarrassing, but the nuances of it suck for everyone involved.
Carter Hart decides to TEND THE GOAL and still ends up with the perfect Dang-It!
Welcome to Philly *face/palm*
About damned time! I had to sit through two intermissions already!
As an Avs fan, Bennington has always been a good laugh.
On the John Gibson throwing the puck. As a lifelong forward it's not something I had thought about but I didn't know Goalies couldn't do it. I mean, really what's the difference between a goalie catching the puck and having a look, seeing no pressure, dropping the puck and playing it and this?
I get for skaters but Goalies it seems pretty much what they can do in a different way .....
Can't forget that Zucker's also the one who scored the goal that got Binnington yanked
17:36 Crosby wiffs on that puck. All I’m hearing is the Benny Hill music😂.
You forgot a dang it on the Binnington play. He was called for a double major high stick. On review, they saw the stick never made contact and had to reverse the call, but the way the replay rules are written they couldn't call any other penalty instead, just reverse that one. That's gotta be a dang it.
I'm a die hard Blues fan, but even I will admit... that kid needs help. Then again, the Blues haven't had a mentally stable #1 netminder since CuJo, and he departed the team in 1995.
I know some people were upset by that, and I think even the ref was irritated by the fact that it went from a call to no penalty on the play. The way he said it was telling. He wasn't saying there wasn't a penalty, just that there couldn't be a penalty.
I will agree that the Blues have had some wacko goalies, but I do think Jake Allen was mentally stable. Also...maybe Jaro Halák (although that's a bit more...debatable).
Markstrom sliding out to the circles reminds me of a time a few years ago when Braden Holtby (then playing for the Caps) did the same damn thing. Luckily he did not get scored on. He did leave a black streak on the ice.
Thank you Steve for covering the binnington farce
That Markstrom Dang It should include a first ever Steve Dangle Crying Towel award
Matheson was already going down before Peteys stick made contact
Steve, you could do a whole Dang-it episode on Jordan Binnington
If you watch the play the guy is already falling
These just. keep. getting. better!
Producer Nick is killing it, and it is apparently leveling up Dangle. Great work all!
I just realized all of Steve's figurines on the wall have a picture of him with each player above it. That's pretty neat.
Dude I just saw that too...that's really cool Steve.
Surprised Nurse's tumble off the boards while celebrating a goal wasn't on here.
Good lord Steve. 9:09 had me cackling. Best day of the week.
15:11 for anyone wondering, "to the hilt" is short for "run through to the hilt"; meaning basically being stabbed with the entire length of a blade until the hilt. So I suppose it's like saying all the way.
I remember Salming used to break up passing plays by scooping up the puck (he never threw it) and immediately placing it down in front of his own stick. That's the way to play it. Seeing them throw the puck made me chuckle! RIP Salming.
I think Matheson just blew a tire on that play. I can't see where the stick causes the trip. The Dang It is BLOWING A HUGE LEAD!
My favorite part of the Markstrom dangit is someone made a shooting star video of it. And its literally the best thing ever lol
the guy in the crowd during the replay of the goalie throwing his stick "What an idiot" 6:26
I'm not sure if I'm just out of the loop, but I have been watching hockey for years and I had no idea the goalie would be assessed a minor for "throwing" the puck like that. I just thought they would never do it because it's such a bad play. Learn something everyday I guess!
Been waiting for this one
mtl fan here. No it wasnt triping he was already falling
I'm at work audibly laughing at the rubber chicken bit... thanks Steve.
Hey Steve, you used the "defend you to the hilt" idiom correctly. It was a saying meaning you would fight for that person until your sword wears/breaks so much that there's only a hilt left.
And the "If you're the goaltender, TEND THE GOAL" award goes to..... Jakob Markstrom!
Matheson lost an edge before Pettersson took the puck just a weird angle
Even as a die hard Blues fan who loves Binny, I have to say he needs to calm down. He’s one of the best goalies in the league when he stays calm, but when he lets his temper get out of hand like this past week, he doesn’t play how he should.
I think poor play leads to the tantrums, though. Most of the time, going back to some AHL clips of him, when he does this it's because he's let in a lot of goals. Might be frustration with himself or lack of defense in front of him, but bad games greatly increase the odds that he'll do something dumb.
It's really funny listening to them play I'm Still Standing during the Vancouver/Montreal clip. Matheson was very not still standing.
Missed the Avs blowing the goal horn at home when the bruins scored
As habs fan Matheson definitly wasnt trip he just lost balance or an edge.... before the OT we could see him playing with his blade so he might have had an equipment malfunction
Steve my guy, you CRANK 👍🏽!
As a Habs fan, not a trip. Matheson just straight up faceplanted all on his own.
“defend it to the hilt” is like continuing to fight until your sword is obliterated if i’m not mistaken
Matheson 100% lost an edge, I have no doubt about it.
Markstrom was still on his way to the blue line when the puck went in
I'm a Habs fan, have been for years. That non-call on Matheson looked suspect as hell in real time, but the replay shows that it was a clean play. I was pissed but nah, that was the right non-call.
"to the hilt" means that you would fight over it. Great vid. Love ya, Steve.
Great dang it’s as usual! But you missed montembeault’s miss play behind the net at 5:20 in the highlights vs canucks
Man, I love the Pog reference...Still got mine!
I was there for the goal against merzlikins, and I was able to get a picture of him laying down, and it was my new Home Screen 😂
23:57 “see ya”😂😂
Holl is surrounded by some great company. Suzuki is a great talent and Gibson has had a very good NHL career.
In that context "defend it to the hilt" might refer to a method of defending yourself with a sword when also using a sword... Usually, to prevent someone from getting to close to you, you'll want to parry a blade away or dodge it entirely, but sometimes you clash blade to blade, you see it in the movies a whole bunch because it's super dramatic and people get face to face and trade barbs. Well, when someone is losing that blade to blade clash and one person, usually the stronger of the two, pushes harder, their blade slides down the other to the point where the blade rests forcefully on the hilt. That's basically the last string of defense for the defending swordsman.
So, with that in mind, "defend it to the hilt" might mean something akin to "defend it to the last" or "I'll die on that hill," to represent that you'll defend it until you're on your heels to the point that you might die if you falter.
You likely won't read this, but there you go.
'to the hilt' modernized: 'balls deep'.
Thank you for bringing up Marchand on the Habs one. As a bruins fan if that's a trip he goes to the box twice maybe even thrice a game for that
20:02 Canucks PA system: I’m still standing
Matheson:
*Looked like Markstrom channeled his inner Robb Stauber there...*
Petterson did not trip but it could be a slashing call but it was a love tap. Did I get that video of that Griess fall? I know I retweeted it to you.
Great episode.
WOOO! MARKSTROM!!! I just knew it had to make Dangits :D Kinda think the Flames could have won that game if not for that goal 13 seconds in
Marner, sans stick on that 5-on-3 ALSO picked up the puck, dragged it into the crease, and then covered it with two hands. Not on the list though because the ref didn't call it.
Yo Steve! That jersey is fire!
THE DUDES AT THE BLUE LINE!!
I flippin love those black Sabres jerseys.
As a Blues fan, that has liked Binnington in the past, I completely agree. He has gotten more temperamental over the years and has gone way over the line.
You forgot to mention, the goal that got Bennington pulled was scored by Zucker
That Pens/Blues sequence is seriously my favorite thing I’ve witnessed in a very long time
Surprised the disallowed goal from last Thursday against the Canucks wasn’t featured.
Are we REALLY not going to talk about the stadium audio guy playing 'im still standing' over the speakers after that possibly-a-trip OT winner in vancouver? Impeccable
lol, that's the song they play after every win though.
"He's hurt maybe. Wait no...just embarrassed." This is gold lmfao.
In a Fantasy League of 6 Flyers fans last year, we basically had Marchand and Crosby off-limits for "moral reasons" but some people decided to try and win at some point and they both got picked up with Malkin. With none of these players, I won the league with Vasy and Shesterkin in the net... I also had both of the former panthers/new flames.
The Rat I can respect avoiding, but the time for hating Crosby has long since passed. It's a meme at this point, he and Giroux have made their peace, and lets face it... boyos still got dem hands.
That said: I would probably wait a few rounds to let someone else pick him up first :P
@Coeus Darksoul I agree with everything you just said. I do respect Sid way more than the rat, lol
I'm not a Habs fan, but if you look at the replay, you can see Petterson hit him once on the skate then again on the hip. This was a trip. Petterson just happened to do it so skillfully that the Ref's, that need glasses this season, didn't see the initial hit.
Maaaaan I was waiting to hear another awesome rant about refs reviewing penalties lol
My favorite part of this video was watching the reflection of Steve on the monitor over Steve's left shoulder.
Why is it that I get notifications for every video this channel uploads except for dangits and hat picks (the only reason I subscribed to this channel
To answer Steve's question on successful exits by a goaltender carrying it out. There was for sure one two weeks ago, Linus Ullmark did what Markstrom did, however he then shielded the puck crossed barely over the blueline and made a successful pass and got back into his crease, after all that it still didn't make Hat Picks.
How was the Tampa giveaways in the Detroit game not on here
"To the hilt" is correct. The phrase just means you're in as far as you can go, from the idea of plunging a blade into something until only the hilt sticks out.
Not a trip. If you slow it down, Mathison's feet are already coming out from under him when he gets tapped on the thigh.
For those who are wondering "to the hilt" is an idiom that means as much as possible
Why??
Because back when sword fighting was meta the hilt is essentially the crossbar of the handle on your sword, so to puncture someone as much as possible with your sword would be considered "to the hilt" because the hilt is as far as you can go down the sword
When the title instantly makes you laugh so uncontrollably that you almost forget you were going to watch the video with that title.
I look at binner similar to a flash in the pan song. 2019 he was awesome and every now and then you remember that good song and you listen to it a few times and then you forget it again. He is very much the human form of that type of song as far as his goaltending. Very good occasionally and forgettable pretty often. Unless he’s throwing a tantrum then it’s pretty funny
