My favorite thing about the Tkachuks dang it is neither team got mad at each other for it. Usually if you cowbell a guy that blatantly someone steps in, especially for your captain/alternate, but the Sens and Flames went "Nope, this is a family matter and we are staying out of it" lol
In one replay you can see one of the players covers his mouth to keep from laughing.

As a casual fan, I found the Sabres goal hilarious and suggest that the rule should be that play should go on during a fight/scrum. It would show how comical the fact that there are two grown men on skates trying to fight without falling over.

Honestly, I've had a "play to the whistle" moment in a real game before where I scored, but then the goalie dug it out of the net and gave it to a player and kept playing, while I was celebrating with a teammate on my goal. See, we don't have a goal horn when we play, so usually the ref just blows their whistle to signal a goal.
i got robbed. not to mention they ended up scoring on us while my fellow winger and I were caught on the wrong side of the ice.

Similar thing happened at a UMaine game when I was in college. Don’t remember what happened but nearly all the players stopped playing, but no whistle…. Maine player happened to have the puck, went down the ice and scored. As no whistle was blown, it counted. On the other hand, we’ve seen goals pulled back because the play was “dead in the head” of a ref and they forgot they had a whistle, so….
I think that last play could actually be a good precedent to set. There can't be a scrum after every single big hit in a game, it slows down the game after a clean hit. If you start one it isn't a free whistle, the play goes on.
yea but like 80 percent of the players on the ice were all fighting so i think that should at least be called for something, i do get like maybe 3-5 but like 8 is a bit much to not call
i saw this take on twitter and want to perpetuate it. a big clean hit shouldn't always end the play, and players should have to change and adapt so they can't do this dumb Scrum thing every time, since the play's still live!
I mean, if you really want to discourage it then make it a penalty. As it stands, if players go after the hitter after a big, clean hit, then it's not really an option for the hitter's team to get involved. Especially in this circumstance. Brannstrom is a tiny man by league standards.

I was there for the Blackhawks game and holy cow it was rollercoaster of emotions!
I know there were so many sens dang its, but there is one big one you missed. Josh Noris gets his head hammered into the ice by Tristan Jarry (no call) and moments later, the Penguins score (It was either the game-winning goal or the empty netter with over a minute to play, do not remember).
Confession time. I always laugh at wandering goalies and their antics. This week I'm glad there was no camera at my last game. My ribs, leg and arm, however, have been providing a constant reminder of how I was utterly steamrolled by two players after I went for a little trip beyond the blue. If you're a goalie ... yeah, yeah, yeah .... Once again Steve, great stuff.

I'm a liney for juniors. The liney in the clip was doing his job breaking up the scrum. Play continues unless there is an altercation. That would be an unnecessary stoppage of play. It's up to the players to continue to play in pursuit of the puck. If they want to have a single digit IQ and scrum behind the play and it costs them a goal, that's on them.
I was at the wild and ducks game, was my first experience at an NHL game. Got in a little late and immediately after we sat down was the first goal, voice was gone for a couple days after lmao
I watched that hawks/habs game live and literally fell asleep 3 times during the review
On the play to the whistle thing making us look ridiculous - Some of my favorite NFL highlights are when like everyone except for 1 dude think the play is blown dead, and then they yoink the ball. Stuff like that can be fun sometimes.

The one thing I gotta say about that ref separating players thing is that it really depends. What happens if one team wins the puck because of a hit in their defensive zone and they go on a break up the ice, while this is happening, the one player who threw the hit and the one that got hit start to go at it a bit so the ref needs to separate them. Do you blow that down while they’re on the break?
That Sabres/Sens situation should have been a whistle. It even should have been a whistle two times - when a brawl broke out and a linesman came to intervene, and then when it was a 6th Senator on the ice - there's Stutzle jumping from the bench but no one goes back to the bench, and you can see him running after Jankowski the same moment when Brannstrom is getting up from the ice. But the striped jerseys were just watching the hockey from the best angle and didn't bother to blow the whistle.
The senators call was brutal, Like how can 80 percent of the players in a game be fighting and there not be a whistle blown.
But that's the thing, no one was really fighting or wrestling or anything really. They just kinda all gathered over there after the hits to talk it over.

Dear Steve Dangle! I hope you'll read this sentence. The main problem is that we don't have a analogue for a word 'goaltender' in russian. Our 'вратарь' is more a football (soccer) term 'goalkeeper'. But sentence "if you're a goalkeeper - keep the goal" loses all its pepper. The best word for such words-playing game for russian would be "if you're a netminder - MIND a net". Because our 'вратарь' ('воротчик', as they said) is the closest term to a english (american) 'net saver' or exact 'gate saver'. So, for russian speaking audience "Если ты вратарь - ПОМНИ о ВОРОТАХ" keeps sense and your clever words game.

Dude, I am a huge Sabres fan, and for a LONG time. As much as I'll take that goal any day, yeah, I absolutely agree, 100% should have been a whistle. Easily.
tbh, I originally thought I just didn't hear it or maybe heard it and just didn't register it cause EIGHT GUYS WERE PUSHING AND SHOVING EACH OTHER, then I see the goal and holy hell was I confused. Like, "Yeah!!!!!...... Wait, what?...... GOAL!!!!!....... But, how?"
I think part of the reason hockey has more replays than other sports is the speed of the play. Add full-contact and a frozen puck flying around and it’s a recipe for confusion

I think you missed in the Ottawa - Buffalo game that Ottawa ended up with 6 men on the ice and still gave up the goal. 4 were still in the scrum when I saw 2 skate into the middle and then get beat back to the goal. Go look at the video again, it's 6 v 5.
There's more nuance to the Konecny goal than you think. Travis has been stuck at 99 career goals for a long time now. FINALLY! After 20 games of waiting THIS was his 100th career goal.
Just have to say, Kadri grabbing Getzlaf's stick and whacking himself in the face to try and get a high stick penalty is a pretty big dang it

As a wings fan, I'm heavily leaning on getting a damn Goaltender tend the goal shirt, bc Ned don't like to stay in the net.
I disagree with Steve's opinion on video replay delays. While we all like it when video reply delays are short, we *really* like it when they are accurate. Every video replay is important and if a couple of video reviews take a few extra minutes, per week across the league, I'll gladly live with that. I've seen enough teams get burned in the pre-video-review era to really appreciate that it is here now.
I'd say you missed Dell, the goaltender, checking Tolvanen in last week's Sabres @ Preds game. If you're a goaltender, you should be tending the goal instead of laying out the other team's forwards lol 😂
Im a four year fan (who breathes hockey NHL hockey) and I'm still confused on that Montreal Blackhawk game, I dont act like a new fan either, I'm nerdy about the sport and yet things like this happen and it confuses every fan

I don't know about the CHI goal tbh. MTL's goalie had his stick on it and chipped it a touch back before getting destroyed by both Hoffman and Kurashev, it looked like Kura's skate hit it giving it momentum again.
I'd have called no goal due to 'interference,' with no attached penalty to Kura because Hoffman should catch a tripping/slashing/interference (take your pick) penalty that caused Kura to crash the goal.
After all these years you would think Steve would know the difference between a ref and a linesman. The biggest dangit is ALL THE ADS during this video
As a rugby fan first before I was a hockey fan, the video referee decisions used to take 10-15 minutes so the league added a benefit of the doubt rule meaning if the video ref can't determine if anything wrong with the play the points can be given. It's frustrating when they get scored on you but now they're not so frequent due to multiple camera angles and ref's just being genuinely better.
