750 dollars for just an adapter is insane. I love technology as much as anybody. But this is exactly why my foxes are always carbureted. I like the FAST throttle bodies because they're simple and self learning. I don't currently use them because of parts availability. If I'm on a road trip I don't want to have to tow my car home 5 states away. But technology changes and things become obsolete. I keep my set up simple and my garage shelves are loaded with brand new parts ready to go. I may not be as fast but when everything is $100,000 factory muscle only and or electric i'll still be rolling in my hotrods

From experience- building an engine harness for a 90's car really isn't that bad, and the benefits are amazing. Stock up on connectors, wire sheathing, etc. A month or two later you'll have an awesome result. If that really hurts you, go out and buy your favorite ECU and a connector for your stock harness and make a patch/harness adapter to use your stock harness! Standalone ECUs have come a loooooong way recently, and the software support as well. Haltech stuff is amazing and has CHANGED my relationship with my my fun cars and daily cars.

Problem I see now is the MF Kustoms plug and play Holley setup you mention seems to be MIA everywhere I've looked. No one has it in stock. My sons Fox Body is reaching the need for custom tuning and this is the route I'd like to go. Not so much concerned about cost, but I don't want to put an order in and wait 6 months or more either. Here is what's so weird about this vid and the times we live in coming from a 53 year old gear head from Detroit. And yes I'm a GM guy but of course I try to stay at least in the loop with y'all Ford lovers (I say Detroit born and raised but do live in Dearborn for quite some time).
These new options, especially the Holley plug and play sounds like a "weiner" even if you have to work overtime for 3 months to get it! All the other options out there are awesome as well, including the newly defunct products that came and went.
I am still a carburetor guy and that will never change. For a living I was also a mechanic for 36 years until my health suddenly changed starting in 2018 and surprised im still here today but that gives me a new outlook on life to go for whatever it is you want NOW... but within reason of course and ALWAYS put the wife and family first. The 3 kids will figure it out later don't push them.
Getting back on track to what I wanted to say in the first place, I was there when fox bodies were new. So many stories. I knew the girl next doors boyfriend loved my 442 and wanted to just enjoy cars. When I was politely unimpressed with his 21 year old ass in his Rx7 rotary I didn't even say a word. 2 weeks later he showed up with a burgundy/grey interior LX hatchback 5.0
That reminded me that we didn't call them fox bodies until about around 2005 ish give or take. Prior to that they were 5pointOhhs.
5 point O. As in 5.o liter five ohs.
It was that way for so long many of us cringed like a scared monkey when we heard that term. Not because they were that fast it was more like because EVERYBODY had one. Like GTO'S in Detroit in 1967, every single stop light. And they all wanted to call you out NO MATTER WHAT you were driving.
Getting back to John next door gals bf. He bought this car and brought it over to show me. I was impressed. Tight new car, awesome sounding twin tail pipes. He asked me to drive it and it had like 25 miles on it. I said no. He said "puleeease" I said fine. We went 3 blocks toward telegraph. Before we hit the big road I needed to figure this car out. I turned left on the last street before crossing telegraph. He said "come on get on it!" He said so with so much vigor. At that moment I hated that car and was gonna ring it out no matter what happened.
I turned the corner and only had one residential block. This was mid day anyway. Stopped. Adjusted my ass. Only piloted the car to the corner, turned right then traveled 3 blocks then a hard left and stopped on the brakes.
I said you sure? He said YES...
I heel toe'd the car to just past 5 grand and stepped off the clutch like I stepped in dog shit. The car melted the tires. So surprised to see 5500 plus rpm come so quick.... That right foot pushed even harder into the carpet as I preloaded the stick for the 1-2 shift and being new it was so tight and beautiful....
I yanked that stock shifter with my left foot hovering the clutch and I did sorta kinda half ass barely kicked it as I tried to rip that stick right out of the T5. It was glorious because of wheelspin the revs barely changed. If y'all know these cars then you know the gear spread between 1 and 2 was negligible on a powershift done right. Second gear had the little 302 just sideways enough to fit between the cars parked on both sides of the street. Our little test track wasn't long enough so I rolled off the throttle and just clicked third and on the brakes.
This guy John went NUTS! how do you do that blah blah blah. He took is now broken in car of 25 miles I think I put 2 on it so 27 miles and spent all his free time learning to powershift. He did learn fast I'll say within a month.
Shortly after I got a Buick GN. I did all the stealthy mods too. Car went 12.01@111 stock appearing down to the stock tires in the front with the little yellow markings on the tire from the factory as I got my turbo regal used but only had 2472 miles on it when I bought it and only 7400something when I sold it. I treated it as a back then in time drive to the track stock eliminator car. with mods to hold boost I'd leave off of 0 boost up to 2, but would flash instantly and carried the left front wheel past the 60ft tree and went 1.55 60 footers all day long.
I apologize for such a long story and all cut up with other stories.
I am 53 right now and going thru major health problems and although my memory is great it's also all over the timeline too. Please forgive me for any seemingly intentional discretions or acting like this or that. Not even sure what I'm trying to say but the car stories can still be backed up by people still alive who were there then.
Wish you all the very best and thank you for reading this far if you made it! Feel free to comment please don't beat me up too much in comments but then again I'm a tough hillbilly from Detroit so I can take it!
With this HUGE comment I wanna get back to my point that I believe the electronic department of fox body stuff may change but I honestly believe for the better and don't y'all fret if you got something that works but no longer supported we'll continue on till you have to change. Use the time to learn your skills. Pretty soon all you will need is a generic fuel map and learn yourself how to tweak the curve for +3% or take away 5% from 4000-5400 just for example. This is a GREAT vid just updating modern times info. Just remember they will NEVER legislate our hobby away!!!

The main reason megasquirt won't idle is because there base settings are way off. The extra that you pay for a holley is for the better base tune.
To make megasquirt idle smooth it takes adjusting more that the idle control slider. idle valve PID numbers need big changes, timing base table must not change in the idle aera, afr targets must be the same (use autotune), and idle timing control must be setup. All those things have to be changed from the megasquirt base tune, to, almost the same settings that are default in a holley.

I found a tuner years ago that would make and adapter to factory harnesses, of aftermarket ecm’s! Harnesses were really costly!!
I just tried to look up from the email I sent them back in 2014. It shows the shop is closed.
It was White racing and Marine in Michigan.

It became a problem when colleges conducted a study on car groups and auto enthusiasm alike, articles published in the state of California; you can find these through Google and on CZcams
Here in Chicago, our group was approached by a few strange people asking us questions about our vehicles telling us our mods were against the EPA regulations and would cause more pollution and that most of the vehicles in the lot weren't street legal, we noticed this group asking a plethora of questions that weren't related to the group and we pretty much ended up telling them to eat dirt. They weren't focused on our hard work, they didn't ask about the mods themselves but moreso of the capability/knowledge of said devices, they took a bunch of video and picture documentation of vehicles and criticized the group and left. You'll differentiate who's actually a gearhead or these paid interest groups.
Edit: I had a very similar setup to yours back in highschool, when the frame rusted out, ended up moving that platform into a 1990 Lincoln towncar which became known as the hotrod Lincoln. I've had the jellybean and the new edge GT's several years ago, and did the boss-coyote swap on a 2002 GT with a billet 4R70W in 2014. That car albeit being a powerful setup at 505HP/454rwtq with 9.8 sec quarter mile at 114MPH, easily did 36MPG at highway cruising. These days as I'm getting older, the car just sits in the garage for summer road trips

2 things, first I did buy a add on chip from a very reputable and recommended source. It was one you gave all your motor specs. and they designed the chip for it. I never got it to work (he did try to help) but it was one that had to go back and forth for adjustments, so that was 400.00 shot. And the Holley system for the 94-95 mustang (as I was told by their tech dept. twice) would not work with my distributor, and that would add another 700.00 to the exorbitant price of the system already.
Actually 3 things... I did go with the Megasquirt, and I will tell you right now, if you haven't ever tried to program a computer, you are up a creek. And even with the 80.00 add on Tuner studio and 40.00 connection cable, you are pretty much still out of the ballpark. Type in Megasquirt into CZcams and look at the huge list of how-to videos, I have spent weeks watching just about all of them, and still can barely make it around the block.

It sucks craig is getting out, but man, he advanced the industry; I wish him well. The QH is one of the few chips you could use for tunes and still go to smog with it (other being the SCT chip). Sure the new stuff offers way more and better features, but you can’t smog it even though you can end up with a ULEV quality tune! Regs!
QH changed the game with data logging.
Having used hypertech, APEchip, working with Raymond on reverse engineering superchips, Shiftmaster, and finally QH, this is truly an end of an era. A blow for the A9L users, but a HUGE blow for the cbaza users!

That said, I just confirmed the Tweecer is still available and would be a good option. I nearly went with one on my ‘93 many years ago but ended up going the Megasquirt route instead. While I’m happy with it (idles fine btw thanks to a quality tune), I prefer an old school approach this time.

Has anyone approached the people who ran Moates and offer to buy their inventory, tooling, designs, intellectual property, etc. in order to continue their unique approach to aftermarket ECUs? I understand the supply chain issues. Finding suitable replacements for MCUs, FPGAs and so on is hard, and making all the changes necessary to make the new parts work the way the old one did can take months, but these supply chain issues will ease up, and normal production can proceed if someone has time to wait out the extended lead times. I get being tired and that they want to do other things, but they have worked hard to create something of value and it shouldn't be lost and forgotten.

Plenty of ways to tune your car. This is nothing compared to the gadgets in modern cars. They're becoming throwaway cars meaning when enough stuff is not working or missing it won't even be worth fixing itll be totaled because of expense to fix it. I'm not a fan of the tablet stuck to the dash look and all the gadgets and stuff in modern cars. I have an 07 gt500 I wanted one of those because it's modern but not too modern. It is still an analog raw driving experience with a stout stick shift behind it and a beast of a motor. The new cars suck...too many gadgets.

Adam Marrer - owner of Core Tuning and developer or Binary Editor has confirmed with me that he bought up all of Moates inventory and has plenty Quarterhorses to supply. I recently bought my QH/BE package from him and he remote tuned my boosted beast. The customer service is 2nd to none for what he offers. I would like to point out that you only need one QH for your fleet. Every car doesn't need to have one. Once you get your tune where it needs to be then have Adam or your tuner burn it to a chip and you are free to use the QH on a different car if need be.
