    Excellent Q&A between Brew2l and Matt, discussing mods and tuning with MAF or Speed Density.
    Coming from the GM gen3 LS platform, SD is the predominant operating system with factory pcm or standalone 2+ bar forced induction applications.
    I've also experienced occasional hiccups with self tuned SD, under certain weather conditions when coming to a stop; however, the ability to do rolling burnouts makes it easy to live with!

    This is a very informative video. Starting in 2005 when i boosted my car i ran it off a fmu with a trex in line pump and 240 intank. Theres no tuners close to where i live so i just lived with bucking, surging idle and stalling issues until 2012. I bought a tweecer rt and boy what a fun journey that was but i learned alot by reading and reading..as far as technical support, if you didnt have a sn95 ecu you were on your own. I fought this car for years, but after a couple maf sensors and learning more about what was happening i got it to drive and idle decent. I installed the terminator x in February of this year and what a difference. Welcome to this century. With all the datalog capabilities of this system i found out things about my car i would never learned with that old stuff. Plus having a built in 2step and a real rev limiter is a bonus. Yeah its 1200 dollars, but by the time you piss away most of your time chasing your tail, fighting gremlins this system can point right out if you know what youre looking for, in a matter of minutes. Theres preloaded injector info for dozens of injectors, even ford. I went from ford red top 30s to holley 48s and for the fun of it i started the car before changing the info in the tune and it started and idled like factory.. Try that with a a9 mass air set up. I always thought mass air was the ticket, but tuning on map is so much easier..just my opinion, its a whole new world now.

      So hypothetically I could hook this up to my 91 f150 don't have to do the MAF sensor conversion and another question do you have to do a lot of rewiring I mean yeah there's obviously going to be some but I mean like I have to completely hook up everything and read pin everything you know sort of like a plug and play is that what it's like cuz my truck it's an old beater and they partially upgraded it for high performance BS and then changed their minds and then a couple years later I got the truck so now every few months the computer will fry wood I think I have that fixed man but they've already went so far hell I want to get all the performance and feel economy I'll possibly freaking can let me know bud

    • @Bobby4v
      @Bobby4v Před 3 lety

      @@phillblack1745 you can use the fox kit if your TFI module is mounted on the distributor from the factory. Im not 100% sure if factory remote mounted TFI modules are pinned the same. You will basicly remove the complete engine harness, factory ecu, mass air meter, and factory o2 sensors. The new harness is completely labled and very easy to install. My 93 fox engine runs directly off the holley. Only factory wiring that is used is the dash, instrument cluster, lights, radio and heater. I ran a seperate harness off the terminator to power the fuel pump. You really dont need to do that of youre not planning on running a fuel pump over 255 liter per hour. I would research it, im sure someone out there has done this. Holley has alot of technical support. Theres also a holley terminator ford engines page on facebook thats really helpful. 👌

    Great video, Pro-m precalibrated meters are different today. I will always claim the old school “pro flow” early pro-m had either better components or were flowed differently. example Up to 36lb injectors with a FMU on a supercharged fox was the go to and they would run great. Pro-M today with bigger injectors really need to be tuned.

    I was originally very concerned when my tuner decided to put in 24 pound injectors after putting in a bigger cam and headers bigger exhaust pipes I also put in a intake from an 03 cobra with the bigger throttlebody. But after listening to this guy I realize that it may be the correct way and I really shouldn’t be worried. I’ve got a chip for it and I will be getting it dynode pretty soon but I’m just wondering how often will it have to be computer checked and dynode?

    • @LeechMotorsports
      @LeechMotorsports Před 3 lety +3

      The biggest thing that will require a retune on a fox body setup is changing mass air, injectors, fuel pressure, or throttle body. If it is a boosted application, it is “possible” you could safely increase boost with different pulleys or wastegate spring and not need a tune. But that all comes down to how the tuner scales the fuel and spark tables. Since you only have so many data points to work with in these older computers, you have to make every one count. So when I tune a boosted fox, if the owner doesn’t plan to increase boost, I’ll scale the table to only go about 10% above maximum load they achieve. And in that scenario, even a slight increase in boost would warrant a retune.

If you’ve never tuned an EFI car, there’s a significantly better chance of buying an injector with little to no data vs. one with everything available. I’ve always questioned the whole calibrated MAF. It has been my experience that the cars with heavier mods usually are speed density anyway?

    • @BREW2LFOXBODY
      @BREW2LFOXBODY  Před 3 lety

      True, it’s easier to work with but the drivability seems to be more inconsistent

    • @LeechMotorsports
      @LeechMotorsports Před 3 lety +1

      If you stay with a maf, you definitely need to make sure you have a meter that supports your airflow before it peaks out at 5v. A lot of the faster street cars out there are on speed density, but it has more to do with the standalone efi market. Virtually all the standalone systems use speed density. And when you need other things that a stock computer can’t provide (like boost control, launch control, 2-step, etc.), you end up getting a system that just happens to not use a MAF. The other legit argument is the cost of most “higher flowing” mafs. When a meter starts to get into the $300-400 range, it seems like as good a time as any to go to a speed density efi system (assuming you have other reasons to benefit from such a system).

    • @StLMikie
      @StLMikie Před 3 lety

      @@LeechMotorsports you’re absolutely correct regarding the aftermarket efi systems. The only reason I had any idea is because that what we went with on this lady build. It’s a Holley setup. And regarding price as well. That why we bit the bullet. Once you start dumping bigger money into it, it’s easier to just buy the aftermarket setup all together.

    I’m old school and still use the Anderson Ford pms. I tune it myself it’s very simple to use and i have 3 tunes on it. One for 93 octane that I only use after winter storage, one for the street with 100 octane and a final tune for the track with MS 103. I could get a Holley terminator x but I don’t think I need one yet. I have a built 347 with afr 220 heads and custom bullet cam, victor 5.0 intake, 1 7/8 headers and 3” exhaust. I currently have 36lb injectors but will be getting 42lb injectors in a week or two. My reason for a bigger injectors is duty cycle. The 36’s are at 97% duty cycle at WOT with a 12.2-12.5 afr with fuel pressure set at 40-42. I think my tune is pretty good the car runs in the high 10’s banging gears.

    • @LeechMotorsports
      @LeechMotorsports Před 3 lety +2

      Yes. These injectors won’t have public ally available data. However, the deka 60 and deka 80 injectors have been used a LOT in the ford community, and many tuners have figured out how to make them work. I have also heard, though can’t confirm, that the deka 60 and 80 are the same as the ford racing LU60 and LU80 injectors, which do have published data. I have used the ford data with those deka injectors and they do seem to get things pretty dang close.
