About me -
Hi I'm TJ a developer who is passionate about learning gamedev I primarily develop games on the unity platform but any code is fair game for game dev. I’m still learning a lot but hope you’ll be able to learn from my progress.
Software Used -
Unity Version: 2021.1.22f1
Visual Studio Code: code.visualstudio.com/
Adobe Premiere Pro: www.adobe.com/products/premie...
Adobe Photoshop: www.adobe.com/products/photos...
Apparently I should add this?
I added a bunch of features to my unity video game because Discord told me to. In this video we go over adding two new races, elves and dwarves, along with a traveling merchant that visits your tavern. There are also some changes to to increase the volume in the tavern as more characters enter. I also talk about some of the backend development that I have been working on, along with some changes we implement to add a happy hour to the menu.

This videos are amazing. The quality of the game is really profesional, and the video in general is as good as a 500k subs youtuber, I am lucky to be able to say in the future that I was if the first 1k subs!
Traveling bards that come in and offer musical services. You can pay for it, if you do it'll increase the rate in which people order or prolong their stays.
Barbarians that get too rowdy, so the player needs to know when not to serve them too much ale.
Add an extra level of difficulty, add a second floor for rooms. Now they player also needs to handle those coming in for stay and cleaning the rooms.
All good ideas, thanks!
Such a great concept for a game especially for a solo developer, not too wide in scope, so can be completed in a reasonable time frame, but the concept can be expanded upon as much as you want. The art style reminds me of Sea of Thieves. Great work so far :)
Thanks man, really appreciated!
Here's a suggestion which definitely won't take 6 months: you could add an open world which you explore to get ingredients for your meals, and you could find weapons and go to dungeons to fight enemies and bosses at the end to get even more ingredients, and then you can level up different skills to improve your cooking, combat and tavern management. And then there could be a complex and deeply emotional storyline which motivates you to make the best tavern possible, with branching options depending on the decisions you make during customer interactions and several different endings to the story. Guaranteed not to take 6 months, because it would take more like 6 years.
(for the sake of that one guy in the comments, this is a joke, please regard it as such)
hahaha sure I'll start working on that as soon as I finish my witcher 3 quest system and League of legends pvp game type. Should I add it before or after I work on the MMORPG WoW inspired 20 man raids?
@@TJGameDev Probably before the raids and after the collectable card minigame
Whlie your idea is a bit different from mine, my idea was to travel to different places with like a ocean and such!
Well, it won't take 6 months
can't wait to see how let's game it out breaks the game
Hey man I just wanna say that your series is really fun to watch and I think you're making a really fun game. I know a lot of people who loved playing those Papa's Pizzeria style games back in 2010 so I have a feeling a lot of people will find it enjoyable! Can't wait to see more of this!
Thank you!
It's was such a great time with your devlog man! And having my idea put in it has made me so much joy!
These videos are very good. I really enjoy seeing your progress, and look forward to playing this game. My wife and I would LOVE to play something like this together.
One interesting small feature would be to give a name above each of the patrons to give them a little bit more personality. Pulling names from a random name bank based on race. Should you add knights, you could mix in "punny" names like "Sir-Tinley" "Sir Rebral" "Miss Cheevers" "Sir Kaum Ferentse" "Sir Renitee" "Sir Prysin" etc.
Haha if I do named characters those will be on the list
Well done! Thanks for sharing the code snippets. Learning a lot while getting hyped for this game's eventual release :) Keep up the great work!
Thanks Mentallic, glad to have you along for the ride!
Sweet
The game is coming together! Keep it up! Cant wait to see more! I REALLY HOPE YOU GET MORE SUBS AND VIEWS! This game deserves it!
Thanks man, that’s super kind
This game feels like overcooked in a way. Really cool!
Thanks man! Glad you like it
Looking great!
you should add a system where you can fill multiple mugs in one time/animation cycle, this will help add a more dynamic approach to your core gameplay feature as you can take multiple orders at a time, but need to keep track of who ordered what.
also i think a small tip system would add a bit of randomness and incentive to provide better/ faster service, makes each integration with a customer slightly different and each time a customer arrives you never quite know what your going to get. will help keep the repetition of the action from getting old.
Tips are definitely a good idea
sound of clinking drinks and the occasional vommit would be good lol
Instead of the merchant just standing there, the merchant should sit at a random table by himself.
Yeah that makes sense, or maybe he’s busy so he should just come find you
This is looking good 😯 The music is really addicting and the character design's so clean
Thanks!
Awesome video! Really liking the progress of the game so far. Man all those different people and races in the game looks awesome and gives a uniqueness feel to it. The audio increasing is a good idea and adds to the game. Keep it up! :)
Cool
This is looking like so much fun now. Thanks for including my suggestion! :D
Love how the game is coming along! If you could implement tavern dancing and singing in random events that might also be fun!
That’s a great idea sure!
A tavern reputation meter and price adjustment of goods to attract or reduce customers would be awesome.
You should add a tavern happiness system and when people get mad, tavern fights starts
Maybe a raid and you have to defend it happens on night 70 if they manage to fully raid they take 50 of gold
Love your content and you are inspiring me to try to get into game dev
Thanks man, good luck!
Great content! Keep it up, you deserve all the support you've got :)
Thanks man, I appreciate it!
hmmm...strange, this became MY dream game all of a sudden
Hell yeah, glad you like it
2:00 should probably use a hash map or a switch statement
Sure, if I add more. Using if else for three options is fine for performance. Switch statements are great though
Someone get this man a Synty sponsorship!
the merchants needs to stand out more - maybe a larger pack that he puts down next to him when he gets to his spot - or have him sit up a small display of some kind
Hmm I’ll consider it. Maybe I’ll add and in game ui icon as well. Thanks
I think you should change the ui of the cooking menu to match the rest of the game. Because the Zelda style menus of the cooking interface don’t match the medival style of the rest of the user interface.
Yeah, youre completely right. I wanted to keep it similar to the BOTW style for that video, but swapping out with medieval assets should be a quick fix. Thanks
I just want a bard or entertainment for the customers to enjoy and they can probably tip the bards and you get a cut for hosting the bards
Good thoughts, I’ll have to consider it
don't forget to make a steam page asap and beg for wishlists
I’ll beg for wishlists when I have a working demo 😉
@@TJGameDev this is not how it works. do it asap. do your own research ty
Why do Dwarves and Elves happily sit together
Hmm, good point. Will have to change that
So I had an idea regarding the upgrades. Obviously you're gonna want to upgrade to progress faster and make more money but what if the game kinda forced you to eventually start upgrading should you ignore it for some reason. So I was thinking there could be like a customer satisfaction stat that resets everyday and the more times you don't have something a customer wants the lower the satisfaction stat would get until it gets too low and a bar brawl breaks out. And so to avoid that from happening you have to upgrade to ensure you can cater to everyone's needs.
Maybe, but that sounds like something other than an upgrade. Maybe buying a round of drinks for everyone there to prevent a brawl
the UI screens feels off next to the recipe menu that looks like zelda's one...
Yeah you’re right, I’ll have to blend them together better
4:21 That's certainly not a way to do it
FK
Brah your game is racist. Ain't got no black dwarfs? What's up with that?
None yet haha
