seems like speedometer wont work always @27:20 . nice vid as usual 👌
Raymond, your in a mostly metal building, that being said WIFI and Cel phone service will be limited
If your computer network is in the office, and your in the last bay you could have 2 metal walls blocking the signal, so to fix the problem
You add a wifi router in the shop
I would put one on the far wall in the center by the office up high 8'
Or one on the newest lift wall in the center up @ about 8'
Something that works as a mesh would be best.
I think its Wilson who makes a mesh system for RF this can also improve cel service inside the building.
Wifi should connect faster but you also want dul band.
$6-7K they sell for easy sell in this market when more ppl are buying used cars.
28:40 you parked parallel to a white S123 from the '70s or am I wrong?
Why don't you have a raffle on it?
maybe use it as a loaner car for customers that need a vehicle during repairs. Put a magnet sign on the door for advertisement. Also, maybe even lease the vehicle to the company. EX: 350.00 a month and you can use all lease payments made from company as a tax write off. Just a thought, help those customers in need and save money.
Good idea honestly a good use for a cheap pt cruiser
No. Too much liability on Ray's end. Never mind the fact that they will abuse his car, if they cause a serious accident, Ray is at risk of being sued because he and/or his business, owns the car.
@@82ndAbnVet Seems like that should be on whoever’s driving it’s insurance just like a rental car from enterprise
@@ryanravencaller Lehto's Law has covered several dealerships who have been sued because of test drives gone bad. Insurance companies like to drag everyone into the mix to try and mitigate their costs. It's no longer about who is at fault, it's about who has money and how can we place them at fault.
For my own part, there are two things that determine where I should service my car: Proximity to my home and whether they have a free loaner car.
My absolute favorite part is the sound effect you make for the satellites linking up! I've heard it a thousand times and it makes me smile every time! Love what you do and so happy for your families success with the new shop
I remember when Ray was replacing ECMs between a lot of the PT Cruisers in the yard.
Total recall. Yep.
That's what I was thinking. But I'm not sure if it was this PT Cruiser or another.
That was my first thought as well.
Leapfrogging...plug and play
I came here to say the same thing.
Great to see a CZcamsr giving someone else cedit for their work.
Glad to see the ECU was still in the PT Cruiser in the back. Solved one of its problems. I look forward to seeing what the ABS/Wheel Speed Sensor issue is. All in all it was a good day for the car. Great diag on tracking down the no crank/no start. Another incidence of an owner fouling things up. Again, am glad at least the owner didn't toss the original ECU. Thanks for another great video.
Yeah, reaplacing an ECU can suck. Not sure about the PT, but on mine the VIN can't be erased from memory; thus a $1000 part needed instead of buying used.
Isn’t it amazing that a machine operates when it has all the correct parts to it… 🥴
Put a wrap on paint with wild colors and RainMan Auto Repairs. Free advertisement
Whatever you decide to do with it somebody is going to get a car that has all its issues fixed. Have a great day and thanks for another great video.
Yea but it's still a Chrysler and still a PT Cruiser, currently the worst brand and one of the worst models ever made.
Yes, but for how long? Worst car ever made.
21:03 I once added steering fluid to a Plymouth Voyager with the engine running; the fun began once turned off: fluid erupted from the reservoir! “Clean-up on aisle three!”
Thanks for saving another PT. I bought my first one 16 years ago and now own 5. I love them!
That's a nice number. I only own 2. A 2001 with 140k miles and a 2003 with 86k miles. I bought my 2001 3 years ago and my 2003 4 months ago. What ones do you have?
Ray, you're still the king of the PT Cruisers. More of them will now begin to migrate to you for help.
And old Jeeps too!🤤
He made the rod for his own back no symphathy here.
Dave to the rescue, YOU GUYS WORK GOOD TOGETHER, WHAT A TEAM😅
Thanks Ray Ron white reference was great blessings to All
wow 95k miles that's pretty amazing.
The speedometer was not working either😁thanks Ray for a great video as always to start my day💯👍👍
I think you should keep the PT Cruiser as a shop vehicle. Apply some Ray's Auto Clinic graphics with Wife Unit. Kind of like a "first responder" theme.
As a person who has owned multiple PT Cruisers and still owns a 2003 with 66,636 miles right now, I personally enjoy the PT Cruiser. Where they are a nightmare to work on and replace even the simplest things, I do enjoy driving them as they are TANKS in the snow. Even in a foot of snow they are tanks. I have been able to get through snow that even trucks get stuck in.
I had a 2008 from Tennessee that I loved more than any other PT I had but I sold that for a larger vehicle. Biggest mistake ever. Sold it for a 2013 escape. Transmission went as i drove off the lot. In 7,000 miles, the transmission was replaced 2 more times. Dealer bought it back and got me a deal on a 2020 escape. Transmission failed at 34,000 miles. Bought a 21 F-150. Transmission failed at 16k. Determined Fords after 2013 are Junk. Bought a 2020 2.0T Equinox and its been better than any Ford. 50k miles of Hard towing and it still runs like i drove it off the lot.
My last PT Cruiser I have, I will rebuild, repair, replace whatever as long as i can. May not be the most desirable but they are reliable and great vehicles if you MAINTAIN them properly.
One of the cars I used to drive had the timing belt break... at 206,000 miles. It was the original belt and this was after 20 years. It was a 1966 Pontiac Tempest LeMans Sprint. It was the first engine to use a timing belt and fortunately, it was non-interference and my father had a spare belt at home. We swapped it in the parking lot and I was able to drive it home. For modern cars, always change the timing belt at the recommended interval.
The yellow markings on the ecm that you took out Ray screams junkyard part to me. The junkyards use those yellow paint markers on many of their parts that they remove and shelve waiting to sell.
your videos help me do my job as a mechanic better and easier.
SKIM is the acronym for Sentry Key Immobilization Module. The chip in the key must be programmed into the module. From the factory the vehicle has two keys matched. They do on occasion cease communications to the module. On the first start attempt with a key that does not match, the vehicle will start and run for about 3-4 seconds and die. After that the vehicle will crank for a few attempts and then sill stop cranking.
outstanding ray always great to watch you keep it up ray but the most important thing is to have yourself a great day ray
Great job Dave!! I'm sure after you get the last few bugs worked out of it Ray, it'll be one solid car😊
I fully agree with keeping the car for the use of being a loaner and/or parts runner/ lunch pickup. It'll be great on gas!! I'm glad to see y'all were able to bring it back to life.
Agreed it'd be good for parts fetching, but gas mileage probably isn't much better than his PU; maybe 21 MPG? I've seen base models sell for $5K locally.
NO, it will be an old Dodge
Fantastic video Ray... Loving the PT Cruise Series..... Keep' em coming
Good work! Doesn't matter how big or small a job is, once everything goes back together and it starts and drives, I am very happy. Glad to see that cruiser finally running.
It’s nice to see the “dead” PT back on the road!
Finally some optimistic comments : ))
It appears Ray has a new person in the shop. Saw him when Ray was pulling out.
Parts delivery?
@@opendstudio7141 He was there when installing the ecm and when he was backing out.
Settling back for another great video. Cheers Ray and Wife Unit !!
Brought back some memories for me. I bought a PT in 2003 - only new car I ever purchased. Weird how so many people hated them - kinda like the Smart Car. Anyways, I liked mine. Good to see you getting to do some diagnostics again - seems like you do less of that nowadays ... I liked the video!
People hated the cruiser for good reason like engine and transmission issues. The they hated the cruiser because of the horrible body style. I don't like a car because it's 'smart'.
@@deplorablelibertarian SMART was the brand, a collaboration of Swatch and Mercedes. Known for the ForTwo, and in other regions the ForFour and ForMore
To be such a horrible car I constantly see them when I'm out on the road. It's actually a running joke with family and friends on who can count the most PT Cruisers we see in a day.😂
The subframe rusting out in a couple years is part of it.
I don't mind the styling. It'd be nice if manufacturers took design risks like this one today, since mostly everything looks the same.
Good job fixing this PT Cruiser.
16:10. I ❤ my 1/4" drive Snap-On mid deep well sockets 👍🏼💯🇺🇸
Probably the most used from my tool box guessing
hey Ray! the mattress is still up there on the side of the road lol thought you were gonna trash it @ 28:37 😹
Great! Now it has water weight gain and bugs.
Nothing really mattress...
@@rolfrevman I see what you did there . . .
It is there for use at night to star gaze in a comfortable and easily accessible location
Back in 2003, I bought a 2003 PT Cruiser GT. I loved that car! Great for getting around town. And after a few mods, was able to get that turbocharged I4 up to almost 250 HP. It had a little zip, I’ll tell what.
Great catch on wrong ECM Starzin the Engine !!
thankyou Ray,an excellent upload,,have a good day,,👌👍
Ray loves his reach around.
After that fall my nose hurts lol. Great vid, I love when things are completely diagnosed wrong.
Thanks Ray, another great video.
There is no way you'll ever get paid enough for all the diagnosis let alone the machine work and repairs.
And you still have to pay Dave!
Amazing diag. You da man!
It was nice to see this move once again.
You could only name a vid "...Worst Engine Ever" if it's a Chrysler/Dodge. Good stuff Rayray
Rainman Ray's first loaner vehicle
I love the look of the PT Cruiser. I had a 2002 that I drove the wheels off of. I keep looking for another one to buy and fix up, but finding one without a lot of "weight reduction" here in NY, is a bit challenging.
You'd love a PT Bruser. They put a Viper V10 in it. RWD
The looks are the only thing going for it.
I rented a compact car when I flew home to visit family. They didn’t have one and gave one of these (convertible) as the replacement. It wasn’t too bad, but then again it was brand new.
I think that the PT Cruiser would be a nice little parts runner.
I wanna see a drag race between this hot rod and your neighbors Chinese 🚙
Race pink slips.
❤🎉🫣🥰😍🤩🍋
Good thing you have that tow truck!
If he doesn't hit a pot hole.
Good day to you Ray
Hope you have an awesome night man!
Perhaps you forgot to tighten the battery connection?
I didn't see it done.
It needs yellow/orange paint on post(s).
He was saying that it wasn't a very good battery to begin with and it was just to make sure everything started an worked. He will put a new one in when all the bugs are worked out😊
Great job!
The red security light looked to be illuminated when you were cranking it when checking that there was a compression problem
When I saw the thumbnail.... Wait... someone would STEAL a PT Cruiser?????? 🤣
Good save Ray
The abs sensors are as rusty as the brake discs from long periods of parking.
Nothing complicated compared to cylinder head grinding.
Good vidéo as usual
I have owned 2 New Chrysler Vehicles, they were Both Triple Lemons, learned my lesson...
Once upon a time in NC I ended up with a PT as a rental. It was miserable in handling. It would be nice to donate it to someone worthy who needs a car. But I like the idea of it being a shop loaner also.👊
Congrats men. For bringing back to life that car. ¡¡¡ I consider this source of inspirtation to finish repair mine too¡¡¡
Ray nice video The coolest thing is to reference other channels like Eric on I do cars Have a good day. A spare car for a loaner is always cool or give it to a person in need.
The Matco tablet is the way Ray!!!!
Enjoyed!
Keep it at the shop as a loaner/ parts runner.
Not a bad idea.
Good & good luck . 👍😊
Good job Ray, not keen on PT's but enjoy the diagnosis side.
I am very impressed that you managed to get that car moving again.
Very cool and interesting video.. thanks
I remember you taking an electrical part from one of those a while back. But that PT Cruiser is still tidy and once you've chased out the remaining gremlins, a new owner will likely thank you for it.
your video where it showed it cranking it also displayed the security light on the dash.
The PT Cruiser acually has a semi interference motor. So the valves cannot hit the piston in those cars. But the valves can hit each other. Also the previous guy probably just plug n played that PCM. When you replace those you have to program the PCM to SKIM with a 4 digit code the dealer provides. And the VIN into the PCM. Also SKIM stands for Sentry Key Imobilizer Module. Hope this helps for anyone wondering.
Go-fer / part runner car perhaps. Donation is nice but it will be up to the new owners to make sure they maintain it. Nice as usual Ray!
I think it's cursed, Ray. Once it's alive again, I'd re-sell it. That makes me realize that you could prolly make a decent chunk of change selling cars off your lot. Your customers would know that they've received the Ray Stamp Of Approval.
I agree with this comment. At least where I live there is always a market for good honest second hand cars. Another string to your bow Ray
Would have loved to see the timing belt and the rest of the new parts being installed .
Then go watch the previous videos. Are you new here?
he never did a timing belt on a pt. cruiser > check the videos are you new here lol @@Gizmetti

Good car ! Had mine from new lasted one month before it was towed away 😊
I guess I'm strange, but I like the PT Cruiser.
Nice work for this PT project. Would be nice to buy it but out of my league, i’d never come up with what you’ve put i to it. But looks nice. Love watching you the the “Wife Unit” videos have a Blessed evening 😊
On my jeep I bought a new pcm disconnected the skim from the key halo and no issue.
Looks like a clean car
Enjoyed video.
@RainmanRaysRepairs Your speedometer stopped working around the 27 minute marker and then it starts too work right before you pull into your shop. Didn't know if you realized it. Love the content!
i didn't catch that....
Great video
Great video Ray!
To this day, I don't understand all the PT Cruiser hate. I'd drive that car all day. I agree that it would be a great loaner/ parts hauler. And if I had any money, I'd buy it. It looks really clean.
As far as the wheel speed sensor, I agree that it's probably corrosion from sitting. The good news is, if it's anything like my Jeep, the parts are cheap and easy to fix. I had one go out and I fixed it in about 20 minutes, (15 of which was spent getting myself down under the Jeep), for about $20, and I know almost enough to be dangerous.
I always loved the look of the PTs but with my huge hands I just couldn't get in the engine bay lol
Good morning Ray
Hey Ray, once you get it straightened out. I would buy it from ya... My wife unit wants a car and she likes these Pt Cruisers...
When I had ECU/ECM (computer) start dying in my 2005 GMC Canyon, I did some looking around to see what my options were. One that wasn't a good one, buying a used one from a scrapyard. That would never work directly swapped in, from what I have learned. I found online a few places that sell refurbished units. They had to program it with data from the vehicle to make it be useable. So, later, after I received it in the mail, I swapped it in, connected the battery, and had to perform a key relearn. After finding info to do that, the truck started right up. P0315 code (needing to relearn variable valve) showed up, and usually does on this kind of swap. My cheap $200 scan tool could not initiate the relearn test. That required me to take it to a shop that has the tool to do it. It would not pass smog without having that code cleared after the test was done.
This particular vehicle holds the top spot as the most unsatisfying vehicle to the looks!! 😅
That would be a great car for my little photography business.
I agree with drc, loaner vehicle. Free advertising, just like the dealership I work at.
At least the old owner had left the old computer as well.
Yes he thought it was a parts cannon issue, good thing the original owner left the old one
Perfect for a SEMA build!!! Can drop a hemi in it!
Forget Sema...I say Wilberts.
How about an Allison V1710? If more is better then too much is about right.
The PT Cruiser would make a good parts runner.

Vouge tires streched to fit the wheels. California style.
Yea dog we hook up the Karco.
Not a fan of PT Cruisers, however that one looks good. You got lucky finding the original ECU! I'm hoping there will be a video of you going to war with that W123 wagon in the future.
Good morning Mr Ray hope y'all have a good day
Turbo for a PT is EZ to set up. 1) cut hole in driver side floor, 2) Put on tennis shoes, 3) when you want turbo, stick feet through floor and run, run, run
I had a California Special, full bell and whistle EVERYTHING. Turbo even. I loved that car. A buddy and my mechanic as well said dump it at 70,000.
It blew up at 71,283. Trans, engine, struts..name it. It was a comfortable car that hauled ass. Sad
I seem to remember you changing the ECU out in the parking lot on the start of this PTLoser series.
Great job Ray. How about your local auto tech training comp. Maybe a student their could need one.
Nice job Ray. Also, for the longest time, the speedo stopped working in the video!
Without the fancy color coded connections I never would have figured out 2 comes after 1 and before 3
Nice Mercedez station wagon on the lot
probably the best thing would be to use it as a loner, that way your customers will have a
auto to still drive while theres under repair. great job. hope you can fix the last items.
