- More than 4 euros per second. That's what Leo Messi earns at Barcelona. Around 140 million per year. It is the highest salary deal in the history of sports. The Spanish Newspaper El Mundo leaked the details and titled: ‘The pharaonic contract that ruins Barça’.
But does it really?

The magnitude of Messi's brand name is mind blowing if you consider the fact that he has done absolutely NOTHING to develop it. He is who he is and everybody just loves him...
There are 2 things to it I think, as a player he is every degree of superlative but also his brand improved because of the Messi Ronaldo rivalry.
Ronaldo actively pushed his brand forward, and Messi's brand came along as a result of the rivalry. All Messi did was maintain his on field performance to that ridiculous level.
@@kgarodiya messi was always seen as the better between ronaldo and him, the very best of the biggest sport on the planet, that was all that was needed to market him

messi has scored more goals against the premier league top 6 than ronaldo, he has never even played in the premier league unlike ronaldo
when messi was playing in la liga, he won the league 8 times, ronaldo playing during the same era only managed to do it twice
messi without xavi and iniesta singlehandedly carried barca through 18/19, getting a balon d'or in the process, also won a WORLD CUP without any top draw players while portuagal had players from man city and united and ronaldo still only scored 1 goal
if we go statistically for balon d'ors then messi has 9 (he had better g+a for 9 seasons than ronaldo) ronaldo goes down to 3
messi is the highest el clasico scorer, ronaldo is 3rd

Amazing work as always! I think that the biggest diference between MJ and Messi is the fact that basketball sneakers are items which are used casually and even became a huge part of streetwear and rap/hip hop cultures. In the meantime, football boots don’t come close to the same hype and cult-following, since you don’t see people wearing it outside the field as a fashion staple. They did lose him on free transfer
@@raynineham3005 It's a shame, but the damage had already been done. Messi and the owners really did do everything they possibly could for him to stay.
Had Bartomeu still been there, I think Messi would have outright refused to resign. At least now he has left the club on good terms. People can be sad that he left, instead of bitter.
Still, Bartomeu should consider himself unwelcome in Barcelona, and that's putting it lightly.

Another important aspect not covered here is that if you sell messi to another club, you significantly increase the chances of other team's success both financially (he brings in sponsors) and in sporting way (competing in champions league). Take for example how selling Suarez has hurt Barca by making Atleti stronger.
Bruh, you shouldn’t go so hard on the editing. It’s so so good

He’s worth every penny they pay him, it’ll be interesting to see how much of a boost he brings to a new clubs numbers if he does leave, and how much they’ll pay him
@Lion You also make them win matches.
@Lion Thinking of Barcelona all the big names such as Cruyff, Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Figo, Ronaldinho, Xavi, Iniesta and now Messi pop up in my mind. I think in the long run this alone builds the brand to incredible heights besides the achievements and culture of course.
It did make sense but he only has a few years left every year it gets harder to justify him now
@Lion I get what your saying, but what you just said is justifiable. Because HES earning the 140 dollars, so he deserves to earn majority of it.
@@od9694 This is not true bro, it is just that his team-mates are no match for him. There is no Suarez, no Iniesta, no Xavi, no Neymar. And even without them he scores more than 20 goals and 20 assists respectively. Put him into the Man City Squad and I'd bet he is still pretty much the same as in 2019.

Maybe this is why R.Madrid got rid of Ronaldo. Don’t rely too much on him. Let him go now so they can transition before he dips in form/retires.
Great point. However let’s agree that Real Madrid got hurt after Ronaldo’s departure and Ronaldo got hurt (in terms of legacy) after leaving RM.
Messi and Ronaldo are very different in this situation. Ronaldo leaving a club will make big news but Messi leaving Barca would be a historic event. Sure, Ronaldo has more followers but Messi's fans are hardcore football fans who worship him like a GOD. Ronaldo leaving real madrid had 800,000 tweets while Messi had 10 MILLION just based on rumors. Messi is the most marketable athlete even when he's like Kawhi Leanard lol

One of the reason why i like Messi is his humbleness. He does not have greed and he just want to do well in the games. Not be known as an icon despite his potential.
He has gotten Barcelona hostage at gun point until his contract has been renewed nearly EVERY season... now that he bled them dry he "doesn't feel good at the club" and he has done his worst season so far, giving great exhibitions only when he wanted to (he even copied a Maradona goal after his death, just to show he could). Yeah, that's not greed at all
@@JEscobarSV Lets get this straight hes a legend of the sport but people pretend hes some saint or always humble person when they ignore these situations on purpose.
Laporta (Barca presidential candidate)
: Messi costs the club 8% of its revenue, but makes it 30%
Me: We'll see if they were right when he leaves
so he makes 22% of their revenues net. Still not enough to justify a 0,5 billion contract for a footballer. His career will end in a couple of years and it seems like they have no plan, cause instead of rebuilding the team they spent half of their payroll money on one player.

Lionel Messi would have generated over a billion in career earning had he taken his brand more seriously to the level of Cristiano and other athletes. The fact that he has earned the biggest contract in sports history solely on the basis of his playing ability speaks volume of how good he is. It seems that his brand is completely relative to his ability, and he is the best.
I think that if messi channeled his energy into promoting himself, he would lose his mindset that made him the GOAT. I mean the levels of performance he has achieved must have something to do with his personality, right?
@@JohnDoe-dn9ez Could very well be. All we speak here is just hypothetical. It just seems in my view that all Messi cares about is football and his family, and away from the spotlight.

I have been looking for a channel like this! HITC sport and Football Daily are great but this is another level! Well done! Truly beautifully laid out content! 👍
I think we should also take into consideration that paying Messi such high wages means other players in the Barca squad (which does not create as much revenue) will demand higher wages when discussing the expense vs. revenue
I like Messi because he's a player, not a brand. If I had his talent, I wouldn't do ads either. Corporations are dirt. It's the person I admire.
Although brand is important for athletes who have short careers. The likes of Michael Jordan and Tony Hawks still make lots of money thanks to all the brand deals they have even though they are both retired from their respective sports. Even rappers, like Jay-Z and Dr. Dre, they both made prolific brands even if they are not that active in releasing music anymore. Although, maybe Messi is not interested in that, and I am sure he is smart and saving the money he is accumulating now and will retire comfortably while remaining out of the spotlight. But someone like Messi could have whole clothing lines and gaming franchises that use his name which could potentially make him a billionaire and secure his legacy not just among football fans, but the world over, i.e. when people think football, they immediately recognise the name Messi.
Messi doesn't do ads? 😂😂🤡🤡

He is said to be the greatest in what he does. He is naturally an attacking midfielder yet racks up more goals than pure stickers, has more assists than world-class midfielders, has a better goal/assists ratio than 'the best' out there, has the highest successful dribbles, But most importantly he plays football beautifully, elegantly.
