Leafs fans *AND* haters please read this
I don’t understand what anyone expects the leafs players to do against a goalie who currently has a 96% save avg across both games. Swayman is just on another level, there’s nothing the leafs can do it’s on Samsonov, he just needs to save more goals. You have to remember, having a good goalie doesn’t just mean you get scored on less, it means that the offence can have the confidence to play aggressive and make the type of risky plays that you need to in the playoffs, having a bad goalie limits what the offence can do because any turnover could be an instant goal against.
We literally see the bruins in this game take advantage of this very fact, if you watch the game they often have players hanging deep back by the leafs blue line even when the leafs are in the bruins offensive zone. They know their goalie can handle it so they don’t need their entire team to play defence, and can have offencemen ready to take deep passes after a turn over. The leafs CANNOT do this, they have to have all of their players in the d zone because Samsonov cannot be trusted. If they get a top tier goalie next season the leafs will be unstoppable. Imagine a situation where matthews can just hang by the other teams blue line waiting for a pass, like we see Pasternak, Frederic etc. do.
Remember, the leafs are STILL the only team this season who have not been shut out in a SINGLE GAME across both the season and the playoffs. Since before the all star break every single other team had at least one shut out, and since then every team has actually had at-least TWO shutouts against them. That is unbelievably consistent offence and NO ONE talks about it.
We will see when the Bruins have to face a team with an actual Goalie, Tampa or Florida, how bad they actually are. When they can’t get free goals they will crumble. Samsonov; he’s a super nice guy, but he lets in so many easy shots. Not a single goal in tonight’s game was a tough save. Bob or Vasilevsky would have shut out the bruins had they been in goal this game.

@@chadwellington2524 he’s a young goalie with an insane amount of pressure. The fact that the leafs offence is so good actually is harmful to him because it makes it even more obvious that when they lose it’s his fault. He’s super nice and he’s still young but the leafs really need a cool head in goal. The poor guy always looks like he’s about to break into tears. I honestly think maybe they should try Woll for the next home game.

They have always been tough team to beat in playoffs, last year was a fluke, they stopped playing twice because they thought they have it in the bag. Learned their lesson and they look really hungry this year. That doesn't mean they will win it all because this year is loaded with great teams in both the West and East, but Bruins look primed for deep run. Leafs are quite inconsistent inside the 60 minutes, they always have some mental breakdowns. You can't blame them in the effort department, they play really hard but their mental breakdowns is what kills them.
I think 1st and 2nd round are always most exciting rounds of playoffs, and this year especially. Only 2 teams look weaker right now, and that's Kings and Caps. All the other 14 have a shot at success.
      Really exciting to watch.

The problem with the Toronto Maple Laughs is:
    - they have a coach who does not know how to coach in the NHL. He's out coached year after year but was in bed with Dubas
    - they sunk 3/4 of their salary cap into the core 4 who fail to produce year after year in the playoffs. One of their core 4 players has not played a playoff game so far this year. Matthews is a regular season only player, and cannot handle the pressure of the playoffs.
    - They are now relying on rental players (Domi, Bertuzzi, Reaves) who have been around the loser block more than Younge Street whores, to add to Toronto's "toughness"
Boston has a real Captain who has a Stanley Cup under his belt and knows what it takes to win.

Captain Brad has taken leadership! Swayman, another solid game. Pasta needs to do a lot more. Very important goal from Frederic; but he has to give more physically. Boqvist and Beecher were too discreet; they must use their speed more to create chances. Good contribution from Van Riemsdyk. Maroon, less and less able to keep up. Go! BRUINS Go!

I wish I had answers. The Leafs march around the league, showing their fair share of dominance and swagger........then the post season kick's into gear and they all become lost because heart leads you, and the Buds have none. The regular season is reserved for developing heart and confidence through out the team, and once playoffs arrive your heart is all that fuels you. I guess these guys earned a whole lot early on, and were satisfied.

What a terrrible take during second intermission, just cause Marner got an assist and an opportunity to score doesn’t take away the fact he’s been absolutely useless and caused more harm than good for the leafs tn. He can’t clear pucks in the defensive zone, refuses to fight for pucks and gives up on plays when he loses the puck. He had a ridiculous amount of turnovers. Skates past pucks in the offensive zone to avoid getting hit or roughed up and messed up power plays. Everyone is playing incredibly hard and putting their bodies on the line and he just doesn’t have the fire in him. I’d rather take an injuries McMann or Nylander at this point.
