Can I make a suggestion? I love all your videos but I wish you'd talk more about the books you've read. I know you do a wrap up every month but you usually only talk about a book a minute or two (which is already enough for you to make me want to buy and read all the books you read) and if you went more in-depth with some books, that would make things even better! Anyway this month I only bought one book and that was Night Film due to your recommendation and I have to thank you so much for that because I absolutely loved it. I think it might be my new favourite book now! :)
Great to see The Snow Child floating around. The basis is that it's based upon a fairy-tale, so it seems whimsical. If you can take a book being slower and character driven and appreciate how beautifully written it is, I think you'll love it.
I don't usually comment but I really enjoyed city of thieves and the snow child when I read them this past winter. I hope you enjoy them too, happy reading. Keep up the good videos :)
"The Snow Child" sounds like it's based on old Russian fairy tale about an old couple that built a snow girl that was their daughter. Hope this book's ending will be happier than in the fairy tale was:))) Great haul!!!
ooOOOooo "poignant". I don't think I've ever heard that word in real life. You fancy huh! AND OMG FISH IN A TREE SOUNDS SO ADORABLE!!!! It makes my heart melt even hearing about it. I need to pick it up.
City of Thieves is so good and kinda underrated. I wish more people had read it. Be warned, it made me cry. The book can be light and sweet at parts when the two main characters are just bonding and becoming friends but at other times it gets really heavy. Its one of my favorite historical fiction novels
For me, The selling point for 'An Ember in The Ashes' was the fact that it was a standalone. But I heard a lot of people saying that it needs a sequel, also the author said that it's not intended to be a standalone. I'm excited though 😁
We read The Snow Child last year for book club... it was pretty good, though not as whimsical as you'd think because of the family dynamic and harshness of the Alaskan life. I'd recommend reading it either on the hottest day (because it's got all that snow), or in the dead of winter.
An Ember in the Ashes is currently listed as a standalone because Penguin only bought one book. Sabaa Tahir has an entire series planned out. If the first book is successful, she hopes Penguin will buy more.
If you haven't read All The Bright Places - Jennifer Niven and My Heart And Other Black Holes by Jasmine Warga, then you really should. I have read them both recently and adored both! I didn't think they were pretty similar as many reviews claim either x
City of Thieves is an excellent story. David Benioff is one of the writers for the show Game of Thrones, by the way (: He came to my school a couple years back to talk to us creative writing kids. It was our Oswego Reading Initiative book awhile back, one of the better ones! Can't wait to hear what you've got to say about the book when you get a chance to read it! (He also has another awesome book called The 25th hour.)
I just finished the Martian and absolutely loved it. Such a great read! The Snow Child is also one of my favorite books of all time. I hope you enjoy it!
I got a lot of books this month. In the last week me and my husband ended up with 70-80+ books. (Admittedly, most of them are mine. I'm the bigger reader) Most of them were used though. Some I got new were Slammed, Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children, and Hollow City. Our bookstore was having buy two get 1 free, so we also got. Red Rising, Night Circus, Ready Player One (Free), The Road, The Martian, EX-Heroes (Free) All the used books we got were serious impulse buys because of how low cost they were. My most excited find at the used store is Beautiful Disaster. I made a order on book outlet and preordered the Mistborn Trilogy. Yay! (This all happened because we got our tax check and had some money left over after we got the essentials. We hardly ever buy new books, but we do splurge at the used bookstores. >.< )
Ooooo wowsa you got some awesome looking books! Every time I watch one of your book hauls I end up adding sooo many books to my wishlist! Hope you're well :D
The Trouble sounds like the exact premise of The secret life of the American Teenager from the ABC family channel with Shailene Woodley.... Also, you're hauls are amazing. I just open up goodreads to mark off all the books as you introduce them because everything sounds so good. :)
The Martian!! Read it in few hours! I work as a bartender and i had to hand people beers just with one hand, because this book was in my other. You will not be dissapointed
Great video. I love war stories as well so I'm glad you mentioned The War That Saved My Life because, I can't wait to read that now. Also The Snow Child looks like a bit more of a fun and lighter read compared to other books that I read, so that's gone on my list of books to read too.
Really interested to see what you think of Why We Broke Up, I hated it but I know a lot of people love it, so I'll be really interested to see what you think!! Amazing Haul though!!!!! So jealous
If you are looking for some war fiction you should read The Things We Carried by Tim O'Brien! Very powerful novel that follows multiple perspectives and set in the Vietnam War.
I actually had the honor of meeting Elizabeth Ross (author of Belle Epoque) at a book convention! She told me that a lot of her fans like to compare her book to a historical fiction version of The DUFF.
I loved the Martian!!! It was so freakin' good!!! It's movie is actually set to release this year! Your book haul looked so interesting!! :D Have fun with all the reading!!!
I was just about to recommend The Yellow Birds to you! Kevin Powers graduated from UT with his M.F.A from the Michener Center. His specialization isn't even fiction, which is amazing to consider once you read his book, he mostly does poetry. Would also recommend his poetry!
Loved "The Martian" by Andy Weir, my brother told me to listen to it between "Hard Magic" series by Larry Correia and I absolutely loved it. It's a really quick listen and so funny. I'm really excited that you're going to read it.
Anthony Doerr does have another novel out its called About Grace. I'm going to read it once I finish all the light we cannot see. I love his work. I'll have to pick up those short stories you recommended soon.
Perfect timing! I'm looking for some recommendations. I've been stuck in a horrible only-read-college-texts period and I'm soooo behind. Thank you for all the cool titles - I can't wait to check out An Ember in the Ashes! It sounds really good!
I love watching your hauls! I skipped Rebel Belle for the same reasons you did, and I'm still skeptical about it, so I'm really curious to see what you think. Just recently got The Martian too-I really want to read it before the movie comes out!
I went to a Sally Green signing on the release day of half wild! It was amazing and so is the second book :) can't believe I have to wait another year till book 3
Read Trouble last month and loved it. Definitely a refreshing read in the YA contemporary genre :) Book Outlet has been realllllllly good the last few weeks... definitely have a few boxes coming my way ;) BTW, finally read All The Light and omgahhhh. So good.
i have city of thieves and have heard this is an amazing book been recommended it by a number of people so cant wait to hear what you think and obviously read it myself. :)
great video :) I got 9 books this month for $5 because my library was having a "fill a grocery bag with books for $5" sale. Or, you know, something more catchy than that. ha. I bought a bunch of books that I might not have otherwise bought, but then did buy them because of the cheapness factor. Which is great.
pickleheartsbooks Lucky! My library had the same kind of sale, only I didn't get to go. Don't you love when you can get books for so cheap; It always me feel less guilty about spending my money. I love books, yet it is sometimes hard to spend loads of money one them! Love your username BTW!
Hehe thanks :) and yes I love sales like that. It makes me feel better about just having lots books too because at least I didn't pay a lot for them! Lol
Fun fact: David Benioff (along with D.B. Weiss) created Game of Thrones for TV! They are the ones who got the rights from George R.R. Martin to create the show.
Hey! I'm happy to see a booktuber reading about modern/Iraqi wars, and as a kurdish girl in Kurdistan - Iraq i have a blog about the reality of "the situation " if you're interested [not trying to promote myself ] and you got some awesome books! Happy reading ^_^
And now there's the Mother's Day sale to look forward to! Thanks, Book Outlet, for making everyone broke with cheap books!!!
OMG I loved ''The Martian"!!!
read it last month and have been recommending it to everyone lol
hope you enjoy! :D
Same here! I want everyone to read it!!
Tone FSG I loved it too!
Good luck with The Snow Child! It's one of my favourite books from last year :-)
City of thieves is absolutely amazing! Daivd Benioff is one of the writers of Game of thrones! The book is vivid and extremely well-written.
Not first. #lifegoals
Belle Epoche sounds like a historical duff.
Jellafy That was my first thought about it too. :D
*simultaneously has Goodreads page open, making books as to-read*
Can I make a suggestion? I love all your videos but I wish you'd talk more about the books you've read. "Martian" is amazing - so funny and smart! :) "Snow Child" is MAGICAL! You're gonna love it - it's a kind of fairytale retelling, but SOO great :)
Under 300+!!! your videos are like presents on christmas morning haha! :) I press the like button even before watching the video! you are amazing!
YAY APRIL BOOK HAUL!!!! I'm gonna watch it now
Great to see The Snow Child floating around.
David Benioff is also the co-creator of Game of Thrones!
Oh my. The snow child gave me all the feels. Beautiful prose and characters.
Yellow Birds is great and it's going to be a movie starring...wait for it...Benedict Cumberbatch. Oh yes.
The Snow Child is a little gem: I read it a couple of years ago and every time I think about it I feel a little bit warmer inside :)
"The Snow Child" sounds like it's based on old Russian fairy tale about an old couple that built a snow girl that was their daughter. Hope this book's ending will be happier than in the fairy tale was:)))
Great haul!!!
Fish in a Tree is amazing! An Ember in the Ashes is truly epic! And the Snow Child was one of the most enchanting books I've ever read in 2013.
I liked the snow child :} it was a heartwarming story.
Eileen B For some reason when she explained it I thought of Jack Frost, does it have that kind of vibe? :)
Well....this led to a 3am Book Outlet shopping spree. But hey! It's Saturday night! PARTY OVER HERE!!
ooOOOooo "poignant". I don't think I've ever heard that word in real life. You fancy huh!
AND OMG FISH IN A TREE SOUNDS SO ADORABLE!!!! It makes my heart melt even hearing about it. I need to pick it up.
Ah the Snow child and The Martian are two of the next books I want to buy ASAP! Enjoy all your new books 💜
Great haul!

An ember in the ashes has to be one of the prettiest covers I have ever seen :)
"The Martian" was fantastic! One of my favorites this year.

I just finished the Martian and absolutely loved it. Such a great read! The Snow Child is also one of my favorite books of all time. I hope you enjoy it!

I went to a Sally Green signing on the release day of half wild! It was amazing and so is the second book :) can't believe I have to wait another year till book 3

Trouble by Non Pratt is sooooooo good! I really liked it.
Why We Broke Up is beautiful. I hope you enjoy it!
Great haul! Why We Broke Up sounds really interesting - might just have to pick it up.
