YES I LOVED THAT BOOK. and i am sobbing because you have since you've been gone and to all the boys i've loved before, both of which are two of my most anticipated reads of the year. i love morgan matson so much omg (and of course, jenny han). ready player one is a really fun read! it's actually set in the future, but focuses on 80s pop culture. HAPPY READING!
"I didn't send you a present so you could send me a present back!" GIRRL I FEEL REALLY WEIRD ABOUT RECEIVING GIFTS I HAD TO SEND YOU SOMETHING BACK. If you weren't halfway across the country, I would have baked you cookies or something... but, y'know.
A monster calls is amazing, I loved the illustrations in it, they were downright scary at times. Also one of the few books I cried over at the end. Hope you enjoy it!
Yay! You're Reading "The Circle"! I am from Sweden and I Think it is really cool when books are spread to other parts of the world from our small country.
Where Things Come Back is really a beautiful story and a really quick read. You NEED to get to it. I literally finished it a couple of hours ago and I already want to reread it.
Brian K. Vaughan's work is a fantastic place to start reading graphic novels. Happy! is an amazing stand-alone graphic novel that doesn't get a lot of hype, but it totally should; the art will make you cry tears of happiness and the story will pull at your heart strings.
Code Name Verity is great, I started reading it a few months ago, but I had to stop reading it so I could read some books for school. The narrator is so biting and witty, I love her.
Regan, I took your advice and started reading the first Game of Thrones book! I'm seriously in love! I refuse to stop talking about it, I carry it with me everywhere, and tell all my friends about it! your suggestions are always so good!!!!
I'm so glad you got S! First book I read this year and first book I ever reviewed on here. I'm so happy more people are reading it, it's easily one of my favorite books ever now. So much fun, so thoughtful, so incredibly well made, such a great story (on all levels)...can't wait to hear what you think about it!
Some good Graphic Novels I know are: V for Vendetta, which I haven't read but has been recommended to me, Watchmen and if you want a really heavy, historical read then pick up Maus. We've studied it at Uni and I can't say I love it because it's such a sensitive subject matter but it's very well written and illustrated.
I feel compelled to comment on every video mentioning The Circle it's just too frickin great! Marathoned the whole trilogy in under a week time last year. SO GOOD! Truly hope the translation can match the Swedish books!
I read Where Things Come Back at the end of last year and it is awesome! By the end, you suddenly realise how it all fits together and it's just like... ermahgerd, mind blown! Hope you like it too :) And I'm always so excited when Amazon send me an American paperback cause you have to be so careful not to break the ones we have here in the UK!
Talented is FANTASTIC! You'll love it. I read the ebook about a year ago and there's four books in the series. Seriously I've been waiting for this book to be published for so long! Yay :D
Every time you show us a book I always wonder if it's already available in my country. I always wanna read what you're currently reading because they all seem so awesome. Haha!
Also is is about this server called the OASIS that is where everybody lives their lives because they don't want to think about how crappy they made the world.
Saga and the Bone series Jeff Smith. They're both fantasy Graphic Novels and you'll probably love them. Also Blankets by Craig Thompson it's a contemporary but it's absolutely beautiful.
oh my goooooddddd the circle! i'm from sweden and read the entire series when they just came out in sweden, didn't know american booktubers knew about them too!
i've wanted to read chopsticks for the longest time! also, where things come back is just phenomenal. you're going to love the protagonist and just the book itself haha.
BLACKSAD graphic is amazing!!! i read a sample of Beautiful Darkness which was super coolieo... Scott Pilgrim is amazing the movie missed a lot of things that happened in the graphic novel ...Fable by BIll Willingham....Maus omg Maus is so touching... i know i'm not giving you great description because if i did it would have been too much to read. Clumsy by Jeffrey Brown... and oh! look on youtube for tales of mere existence.
For a graphic novel I would recommend Maus. I'm currently reading the books for my Humanities class and I am loving it. And it's about WWII and the Holocaust. I think you'd really like it.
Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi is a great graphic novel! :) To be honest, it's the only graphic novel I read and it was for school, but it was really good! (it's also been made into a film, using the same drawing style as in the novel)
The Circle looks great! As for graphic novels, my long time favorite has been DeathNote. It goes fast and is very interesting and just all-around wonderful. :)
I am in love with 's' by JJ Adams! I finished it a while ago and fell in love with it :) It's so unique in the way that it's written and the extra little bits inside the book really pulled me in! Hope you enjoy reading it :)
Try the Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick. There's a film by Martin Scorsese called Hugo based on it, but the book is told half in pictures and half in writing and it's just beautiful.
A Monster Calls is just so beautiful. I recently posted a non-spoiler review and pretty much raved about it. Just get ready for the feels! I also read Chopsticks last month and it was definitely interesting! Enjoy xx
WHOA. You received so many books! S looks amazing, and definitely putting that on my TBR. That Vicious cover looks amazing! Better than the US cover IMO.
I'm glad you think I was in your brain for getting you "Fire & Flood". I really hope you like it. Also "The Cirle" is great and it is indeed set in Sweden. /Jenny
Omg, get the tissues ready for A Monster Calls. As for graphic novels, I luuurve Saga, Locke & Key, Fables, and Mouse Guard. Ship of Theseus totally gave me a bookgasm, love it so much. Ready Player One game me a nerdgasm. Lots of gasm-ing this haul. :D
The Arrival by Shaun Tan is the most beautiful graphic novel I have ever read. It doesn't have any words as well but it completely contextualises the premise. You should check it out! :)
A Monster Calls is such a wonderful book, it's pretty intense and kind of beautiful. If you want to get into graphic novels, and since I remember you like the show, have you tried The Walking Dead? They've done huge compendium bind-ups, made up of about 40 issues of the comics.
Anything by Alan Moore is a great place to start for graphic novels. Many of them have been adapted into movies (Watchmen, From Hell, etc) but the novels are so much better.
If you are getting into manga I would suggest Dramacon it's read the American way left to right and is super easy to follow and is adorable! If you want to read the other way you should read Yotsuba&! its adorable series!
Anya's Ghost by Vera Brosgol is a great graphic novel. Also American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang. And I love how you're freaking out about every book in this video. YAY BOOKS!
I LOVED Ready Player One! That book was so good, you will definitely enjoy reading it! Now I'd really like to read Fire & Flood. Can't wait to see what you'll think of it!
Ready Player One is set in the future but revolves around 80's culture and it is so damn good. OMG! Also, for graphic novels check out Saga by Brian K. Vaughn or the ultimate graphic novel, Watchmen. Hope you enjoy!
If you want a book with pictures, definitely read The Invention of Hugo Cabret. It's wonderful. As for graphic novels, dive into Fables and Y: The Last Man. =)
"I kinda wanna be moooore than friiiiiiiiends..." Oh sorry, I just kept singing that song every time I read your description, don't mind me. THE HUNGER GAMES + POKEMON?????? Brb adding this book to my TBR list, because YEAH As usual, you have all of the glorious books *makes grabby hands at screen*
I've just got 'S' as well, and ohmygosh, I am so bloody excited!! I still can't decide how to read through it though, and trying to control myself and not read all the little postcards and letters is killing me :@ Also, you should check out 'Rust'. It's one of my favourite graphic novels :D
The Walking Dead graphic novel series is really good. I also like Fables which is sort of like the show Once upon a time. The Watchmen is also a really good graphic novel :)
It's Ebury Publishing, I also got sent Empathy and it's so good. I am petrified of spiders and after reading the section on fears and the most common one (spiders) I'm not as scared as I used to be. The smallish ones I can handle, I still kill the big ones with any decent object I can use though.
HUGE graphic novel fan here. My obsession as of now is "Saga" by Brian K Vaughn. It's a high fantasy involving intergalactic war and forbidden love. ugh. so. good. There are 3 volumes out now.
Haha I'm literally sat here right now (in the UK) reading Cinder and getting a bit frustrated with our none flappy paperbacks! If only I was someone who could break a spine everything would be ok... I wish they made them the same way!!
The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick is really cool; it's really long, but most of the story is in drawings. It's a middle grade historical/steampunk/mystery.
I recently read A Monster Calls and Chopsticks AND THEY WERE BOTH BEAUTIFUL :D And Ready Player One was SO COOL. And kinda scary, because it almost feels like our world is heading towards being completely obsessed with being online. That book just absolutely blew my mind.
I loved A Monster Calls, its dark and haunting, but such a beautiful story. And the Angelfall series is amazing, anxiously awaiting the next book. S. looks so amazing, I've been dying to read it. I love the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels, I'd recommend 'em to anyone.
With UK books the most satisfying thing is snapping the spine haha like bending the book back until it's open enough to read, maybe us UK readers are a bit sicker than Americans ;) haha x
S has high production values. A non-fiction book that is somewhat similar in production values is the Harry Potter Film Wizardry that was first put out by Warner brothers c.2010. Both books have lots of pops, whistles, inserts, postcards, maps, bookmarks, this sort of thing. I see you're doin' 'nother Texan style book haul: Big Time!!
omg regan i feel like every single one of your book hauls is "HUGE." YOU ALWAYS BUY SO MANY BOOKS.
FIRE WITH FIRE. YES I LOVED THAT BOOK. and i am sobbing because you have since you've been gone and to all the boys i've loved before, both of which are two of my most anticipated reads of the year. i love morgan matson so much omg (and of course, jenny han).
