    I only realize now how intense this scene is after so many years. "Vengeance is sweet." Snape isn't just looking at the man who bullied him in school, he's looking at the man who he believes to have killed Lily. Knowing that, Alan Rickman's line feels so different.
    Also, the entire reunion is a breakdown of trust and beliefs. Lupin appears guilty but isn't. Sirius is innocent, Pettigrew is alive, there was no Scabbers, and Harry attacked a teacher. All the creaking noises in the Shrieking Shack compliments how fragile and unstable everyone's old beliefs are in this space.

      I suppose making fun of his old bullying victim gave him a sense of control back. Bullying is always about power and control. Love Sirius but he was also mad wrong for the way he treated Snape. Yes, Snape was not the loveliest person, neither as an adult nor when he was younger. But he was clearly at the bottom of the social hirarchy in school while the marauders were at the top. And I'm sure their bullying pushed him only further into isolation and to the dark arts as a teen.

      @Hari-kx2er Před rokem +48

      @@dreamfaller6372 Let us get certain things straight here.
      1) Snape never went down the dark path due to bullying by James and Sirius. He even before he attended Hogwarts wanted to join Slytherin despite fully knowing it's dark reputation
      2) At Hogwarts all his friends were highly problematic, dark arts lovers like Avery and Mulciber. He chose his friends himself despite Lily many times asking Severus to abandon his wrong friendships. Snape was never really isolated in general, he did have his friends circle. Just the wrong sort
      3) Snape even as a first year was totally immersed in dark arts. The bullying incident in Snape's pencieve only happens in the fifth year.
      4) The relationship of Marauders to Snape was complex. Snape hated James because he knew James fancied Lily. He hated Sirius, Lupin and Pettigrew because they were James's friends. Sirius among James's friends especially hated Snape. Snape also often sneaked after the marauders attempting to discover them in their adventures and later to expel them for that. SO IT WAS FAR MORE COMPLEX THAN FEW TOP STUDENTS BULLYING A KID LOWER IN THE "SOCIAL HIERARCHY"
      4) Snape also attacked James at every possible opportunity.
      If he was lower in the social hierarchy, it was cause of his own dark art fancies, bad associations, and ambition to later join voldemort (Lily herself accused Snape of wanting to join the dark side and having the worst friends, Snape does not deny)
      JK Rowling also described Snape as a vindictive and bullying fellow in general who finally died for the right cause.
      Even if James and Sirius totally left him alone, his fascination with the dark arts or his evil friend circle would never have changed. It was also entirely Snape's own choice to join voldemort.

This might be true, but it’s also very likely that another would have managed to do so if he hadn’t. Voldemort had many loyal followers, and would have simply moved on to prey on others until he found someone who would be willing to bring him back. (ex. Quirrell in Sorcerer’s Stone). The key here is, Wormtail owed Harry his life from this moment on. Without this debt, events would have mostly played out the same, except come Malfoy Manor, no one would have felt an obligation towards Harry to let him out of the basement. Sparing Wormtail’s life is an absolutely pivotal moment for the success of Harry over Voldemort.

To top it off the creaking transitioning to gradual screeching of Wormtail's reveal is brilliant.

    I love the contrast between Sirius in this movie and the ones after it. You can tell that he is absolutely unhinged and that his sanity has been drained by the dementors, only one thought on his mind at the time and that's to kill Pettigrew. Meanwhile, in the other ones, he is a lot more calm and composed. He didn't get to kill Pettigrew, but at least he got to somewhat clear his name and reunite with the ones that he loves. That and not being in Azkaban, most likely helped him a lot to get his head straight again.

    Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is the most underrated movie in the franchise. In fact to me is the best movie after Part-7. Darkest, thrilling, intense, and haunting. Beautiful music, heart wreaking moments, twists and turns, strong and mysterious storyline, and scary at times. I think the reason why some people dislike this movie is the way it all turned dark suddenly, after the first two parts which were so bright and cheerful. The transition was too quick and hard to accept.
