Well, people who are overcome with grief and anger most of the time aren’t completely aware of their actions and don’t really care about what they’re doing. I speak from personal experience

When people tell me that kids can't act i always refer to this scene. Daniel Radcliffe is 13 here, and its such a powerful performance. Watching shows today with actors that are even older than that makes me wonder where all the talent has gone. I am looking at you Netflix's Avatar... and Netflix series in gernal.
I so disagree with you on this because I feel that he did such a terrible job on this scene. Daniel Radcliffe was a lot better from the fourth movie and onwards but the first three movies especially the first one. He was not a good actor and he didn’t do the scenes justice. This scene in my personal opinion is a prime example of that in the third where I personally feel he is under acting at the part where he’s crying (you don’t even see tears) and being all emotional, and then he’s overreacting when he is yelling.
@@SuperGalaxy I agree on the crying part. However the way he shakes really sells his inner turmoil which then spills over into unfiltered anger. Remember, he is not really mourning his parents here... He is transporting the feel of the worst kind of betrayal, and I think the acting fits.
@@syntheax2788 eh ok I guess. I don’t disagree with your thesis overall that talented child actors are a necessity for a lot of roles. I just don’t think this is a good example. But definitely agree avatar the last Airbender both the movie and the live action Netflix show have a lot of weak acting from the children. For me a great example of fantastic child acting would be Haley Joel Osmond in the sixth sense or even A.I.
It’s this scene where Radcliffe goes from charmingly adequate to brilliant. In the first two movies he’s passable, from this moment on he becomes incredible

Dame Maggie Smith.... what an icon!!! Her performance of McGongall is still great. The stern and seriousness but also that motherly figure trying to take care of Harry.
Daniel's performance in this scene is so emotional!! Really feel his pain of the overheard betrayal.
this is completely stupid, but i just love Maggie and the Robert's delivery in this scene...
reminds me of when my grandparents were still alive, in the living room, drinking scotch/wine with my parents and discussing politics/boring stuff while I take a nap in the other room
