Harry was not a DADA teacher, he taught DADA in the DA. It gives us proof he didn't teach the DADA class as a teacher because: Professor Umbridge was the DADA teacher in the same year. So technically Harry taught DADA to the DA, but he wasn't considered a teacher for the DA so I guess Avery is correct.
Another example of pitch-perfect casting in this franchise: David Thelwis was usually known for playing villains or a belligerent drunk. And he absolutely nailed this warm and sensible uncle, the man who tried to keep Harry out of trouble just like he did his father. The way he deflected Snape in the hall after lights out; you can see him doing the same thing to Filch for James and Sirius when they were unruly kids.
I don’t get people saying Remus is the responsible marauder... The dude literally arrived late at his first class, made his class laugh, humiliated Snape, tries to kill Peter, gave back the Marauders Map to Harry... Like. He’s a legend.
Think it's more he seems so much of James and lily in him. And James and Lilly were two of the few people who accept him for who he was James took remus in along with Peter and when they both died Remus lost four friends true friends. He lost James and Lilly he lost sirius and Peter. James and lily death was only a few years I think two or so if not less after they left hogwarts
5:13 That must've been devastating for Lupin. He was using every ounce of strength he had, holding Harry back trying to keep his Nephew from harm running into the veil, but really *he* was the one that wanted to dive into the veil after Sirius, despite knowing Sirius was already dead and doing so would kill him too. Harry lost his Godfather and Remus lost his best friend, his *brother* more or less. How he was able to keep himself composed in that moment is nothing short of superhuman.
We are seeing the books and the movies from Harry's pov , so aren't seeing firsthand how devastated Lupin was , but we can all understand. Losing his family, friends one by one ... then loses his wife and his own life .
What really strikes me is the scene when Harry and Remus talk on the bridge. I realized that was probably Harry’s first time hearing about his parents from someone who knew them firsthand. Everything he had heard about them up until then was stuff of legends. He got to hear about his parents before they were regarded as legends.
The way he spoke of not just James, but of Lily as well shows how close he was to both of them. Not just James. I think Liy and James were like siblings to him.
Laura Schoenborn yess!! and the way he talks about lily (and also about james between the lines) being kind to him and accepting and helping him with his condition makes this scene so heartwarming
What I love about him is that he was everyone’s uncle not just Harry’s. Remember that time when Umbrige insulted Lupin in OOTP and Dean ( or Seamus, haven’t read the books in a long time) immediately jumps down in his defense? That moment is one of my favorite moments from the books.
Came here to say just that. Literally no-one (asides from the usual suspects, I imagine) seems to have had anything bad to say about him. I can't even remember if Malfoy badmouthed him, he was an absolute Gem.
@Maria Samhoun why do all guys have to just be bro’s tho? Like we’re not asking Ron and Harry to get married, not Fred and the lee Jordan not malfoy and crabbe not James and wormtail I could go on but the point is these are fictional characters just let me have grindeldore scorbus and lupius that’s all I ask 🥺😂
Its such an interesting dichotomy to see how differently Remus and Sirius interact with Harry. Whereas Sirius is so much more intimate and personal, Remus is more laid back and nurtures Harry from a distance. Hot take: he was the one who would've made a much more powerful and mature godfather than Sirius.
We also dont really know much about Sirius pre Askaban. He was tortured ever day for like 13-14 years. But came out a decent good man. So perhaps if he wasnt sent to askaban he wouldve turned out a much calmer and gentle. But either way i think either remus or sirius would make for a good godfather. And iirc theres a way to prevent the transformation with a potion. Or specifically clothing all the blinds/having functioning shutters and just taking an early night in every month. Or cause magic exists maybe some sort of artificial cloud covering around the house so even if he accidentally peaked out side he wouldn't see the moon as seeing the moon seems to be the specific trigger not that a full moon is present. Or he just puts on a blindfold an hour before sun down just to be safe. Or just goes somewhere you cany see the moon. Being a werewolf in HP i feel is kinda overblown. Cause it require a very specific circumstance that easily avoidable.
I love how Remus is that one guy in the MARAUDERS that would probably burry himself under 10 layers of blanket with a book and a chocolate and messy hair but still looks cute.
it makes me so sad to think that if james and lily hadn't died and peter hadn't betrayed them, things would have gone so differently. Harry would have grown up learning magic, spending a l l of his time at hogwarts pranking the teachers because there's no way in hell that Jam's little prongslet was going to stay out of trouble Remus would have come over every weekend as Cool Uncle Moony and sometimes he'd bring Sirius, the cool godfather with a motorbike and Lily would say something like "no he's not getting on the bike Sirius he's only 3" and James would argue that he's "already three" and Remus would just sigh and go raid the Potter's chocolate stash Peter would totally abuse his animagus powers and constantly turn into a rat just to make harry laugh. You can bet that he and remus would buy out honeydukes every time they went to the Potter's house because "harry needs to learn good food Prongs, no you can't stop us" it just makes me sad okay
As a child with a disability/chronic illness, Remus Lupin was my favorite character practically from his first scene in the book Prisoner of Azkaban. He "looks ill and exhausted" on the train, and the students notice he's absent from class a lot that year, but he's such a good teacher when he is there. I think his own struggles have given him tremendous compassion for others. JKR has said Lupin "cuts his friends slack" because he's so pleased just to *have* friends, and I can relate to that too. Lupin was the spoonie representation I needed as a child.
So disappointed they didn't include the scene where Remus having a row with Harry and leaving in rage from the book 7, instead we got that awkward dance in a tent.

I've felt like remus is the ultimate uncle, gives you chocolate after an attack, teaches you things that you didn't know before hand, and just always gives you encouragement after you feel you can't do it
Yee but he's also the one who will stop you from causing trouble when you want to, sirous would help you cause trouble- I want remus to be my dad, sirius to be my uncle if that would make sence, or maybe just make remus younger- he'd be a better friend
It'd be a bit weird to say I recognise your father, he let me hold you as a baby just before we ran off into the woods to do some magic. Because we all know that Remus is a werewolf, but Harry, who just met him, would probably think Lupin and his dad had a thing going, which they did, just not in the way he'd expect.
Can I talk about how much I love Remus Lupin? The man is incredible. He has lost everything in his life: his chance at a normal life because of Greyback (may he croak), then his parents, all his friends and his true love (Sirius is the love of his life and if you don't agree with that go bother someone else), but he keeps fighting. For Harry, for the world, because he is needed. Because if he doesn't, no one will. No matter how much he hurts, he keeps going. The best years of his life were probably the ones he spent at Hogwarts, and even then there was the War coming. He had to join the Order at a very young age, and after that... There was October '81. I'm not going to talk about it anymore *starts crying* Secondly, he's the best teacher Hogwarts has ever known. He's very smart, he's kind to his students, he pushes them to excel, and he gives them lively, interesting lessons. I mean, he put on music during a practical class against dementors! He was always there for Harry, encouraging and comforting him whenever he needed it. Even during the Battle of the Ministry, his first instinct was to stop Harry from putting himself in danger, when Sirius had just died right in front of him. He fought the Dark Lord all his life, fought in both wars, was a member of the Order of the Phoenix, and died fighting again, right in the heart of Hogwarts. And, on top of all that, he was a Marauder. He helped create the Map, invented spells, participated in a thousand and one misdeeds, left an indelible mark on Hogwarts! In short, Remus Lupin deserves all the love in the world and I have read far too much fan fiction about him.
My thoughts exactly. Remus was treated like an outcast his entire life and he still was one of the sweetest, gentlest people in this saga. He's (I believe) the first person who gave Neville self-confidence and I'll be forever grateful he did, because it prefigured the badass Neville was going to become. And of course, the fact he comforted and supported Harry not matter what. He's one of the characters I miss the most, along with Fred, Tonks and Dobby.
This was personal. Although lupin never bullied Severus he never tried to stop it. And during Lupin's transformation Snape almost killed because of Sirius. So I guess he never forgave them and of course he never liked anyone of the marauders
Dunno why Snape is so salty (regarding about the post overall). The post was cursed, nobody lasts longer than a year for various reasons. Who knows what would happen to him if he was hired earlier. Maybe he'd get his potions post back, maybe he'd die a premature death or be incapacitated.
So I read somewhere that from the time Lupin learnt he was a werewolf, he started eating & carrying chocolates around. We know chocolate is harmful for dogs & can kill them. What if young Remus thought eating chocolates might kill the werewolf part of him? And it became a habit of him to carry chocolates which actually turned beneficial... T_T
Might be. My question is, if chocolate is known to be good for the aftermath of a Dementor's Aura, and it's known Dementors roam free in the public, hunting for Sirius Black, why is he the only one having chocolate around with him, habit or otherwise?
That is true, maybe it was a way to subdue the effects, and also Wolf'sbane is apparently gery bitter so perhaps chocolate wouod have helped fight that after taste.
@@leventebardossy5962 maybe because chocolates were known to be effective for just a short period of time & being believers in magic or magical substances (just my opinion, even idk the correct reason) not many people might have believed that something so easily accessible, in the muggle world too, could help after a dementor's attack or something. Seeing from the wizarding world's pov, I think they might have believed in more effective or more magical things than just regular chocolate. But Remus being Remus, might have actually considered this thing I guess. I remember Madam Pomfrey saying in the 3rd book, after she heard Lupin had given Harry a chocolate after the dementor attack, "so we've finally got a DADA teacher who knows his remedies". So your question actually makes sense as why not more people carried chocolates!? Also, chocolates are known to be mood-enhancing in any condition whether it's in the muggle/wizarding world! Great question btw
chocolate has chemicals in it that increases serotonin and releases dopamine which is why it’s used after a dementor attack because of the whole dementor=depression metaphor
Remus was absolutely worn out from dealing with a full moon transformation just hours before he got on the hogwarts express. The fact that he was able to produce a patronus - wordlessly, at that - while also concealing his patronus’ form, is incredible and shows just how powerful Lupin is
In an alternate reality, Harry and Teddy would've been like cousins. But because things turned out the way they did, Harry became almost like a father to Teddy. I think about this a lot.
2:36. "Your mother was a wonderful person. Your father, on the other hand, was a total asshole, and is 100% the reason why Snape treats you like shit."
My headcanon is that when Remus died and all the marauders were gone, the map cleared itself of all its contents and chose to display for forever ‘Mischief Managed’. And there goes my heart.
To be honest... If Harry would have chosen the REAL first time he was on a broom, the memory would have been strong enough. He was with his parents on Christmas eve, that should be a very powerful memory. But he just forgot about it because he was to small.
I literally cried at the end, this is one of the deaths that affected me the most during the saga. His desire to protect his family is so admirable and the way he fights till the end for the next generations is so amazing. I love this character so much
In the book it was hilarious. He gives chocolates to all including neville and ginny as they too were in the compartment and when they did not eat he said "You know I haven't poisoned those!" 😂😂😂😂😂 then they all eat and feel better.
The fact that Harry makes it a point to be there for Teddy as Lupin was there for him growing up always melts my heart. Having him over for tea or dinner 3 or 4 times a week, housing him during the summers, and even telling his daughter that he intends to offer to take him in after that year at Hogwarts.
I don't think any sane person could dislike this dude. His little "hello" to Neville was so freaking cute! And the way he actually encouraged his students and made them want to participate in class while being a sort of parental figure to Harry from a distance...he just deserved so much better.
I'm glad someone noticed that Remus did wandless magic. I also noticed that when he gets rid of the dementor the first time, on the train, he doesn't actually say "Expecto Patronum" so that also means he can do non-verbal magic as well as wandless magic. This just makes me think he is a very powerful wizard and sometimes people forget how powerful he can be. For God's sake he cast a non-verbal Expecto Patronum!
Not to mention that he magically opened the chest that the "Dementor" was in without a wand. Remus must've been a very powerful Wizard--possibly as powerful or more powerful than Dumbledore. And Albus once held an object without touching it like he was using the force.
3 year: Remus *protects, helps, proud of harry* 4 year: Remus *helps harry* 5 year: Remus *gives advice and stops harry from doing something stupid* 6 year: Remus: *talks and gives harry a good time* 7 year: Remus *offers him help and dies for him* I mean THIS MAN DESERVES a proper funeral and to be a legend Edit: Omg thanks for all the likes 😄
I just realised that when Sirius died and Harry wanted to jump into the arc after him, Remus held Harry back even though he probably wanted to do the exact same thing as Harry since he'd just lost his only lifelong best friend left alive
Yah cool uncle basically sums him up. Also slightly awkward dad. I think one of my favorite Lupin moments is when he politely shut Snape down when he bullied Neville and showed faith in him. Major respect for that.
It helps to know that Remus was Canonically the nost level headed and Mature of the Mauraders anyways and got into trouble the least compared to Sirius and James.
Yup, it is known. Dumbledore made him a prefect in order to have James and Sirius under control. Poor Remus himself admitted it didn't really work as expected. 😂
my favorite scene of remus lupin is his first scene ever. the way his eyes just open and he rises with his hair all wack, still looking half asleep, says no words, and just points the wand at the dementor like it was easy makes me giggle, hes so powerful
I like how he called Neville to face the boggart because Neville is seen to be a very shy boy that everyone calls a wimp, professor lupin called Neville because he knew what Neville was made off and that was pure bravery
@@anonymouscausewhynot Keep in mind, though, that this one gesture of of encouragement from a kind authority figure influenced Neville to become who he was later on in the story. 🥲

The way he deflected Snape in the hall after lights out; you can see him doing the same thing to Filch for James and Sirius when they were unruly kids.

Its such an interesting dichotomy to see how differently Remus and Sirius interact with Harry. Whereas Sirius is so much more intimate and personal, Remus is more laid back and nurtures Harry from a distance. Maybe James and harry didn't choose lupin as the godfather cuz there are high chances he can turn into a were wolf and can hurt harry
@@fleurravenclaw3576 damn you know you might just be right mate 😂😂

I'm not going to talk about it anymore *starts crying*
Secondly, he's the best teacher Hogwarts has ever known.
Thank you, this comment is perfect and describe our love for remus !!
He's one of the characters I miss the most, along with Fred, Tonks and Dobby.
remus: is defense against the dark arts teacher
snape: literally 3 claps
He's hated all the others, but this one also happened to be quite personal.
This was personal. Although lupin never bullied Severus he never tried to stop it. And during Lupin's transformation Snape almost killed because of Sirius. So I guess he never forgave them and of course he never liked anyone of the marauders
@@user-hx5db9zy2v the opposite of hate is indifference
