- Vintage Story Desert Life is a desert-themed survival playthough in version 1.19, with a large list of mods to speed up the process of building and chiseling. While our builds will all (or at least mostly) be in the desert, we are not restricted to hot and arid climates for the purposes of gathering materials and resources.
This series exists as a series of VODs, as well, but for people who prefer their videos in a more manageable length, the VODs will be cut into these shorter episodes and released throughout the week after each livestream, provided that there is enough desire for this format.
Want to play along? You'll need the world files and all of these mods (likely) in order for it to work. Download links below.

Your videos are perfect for listening to while working on art - I don’t really have to have my eyes glued to the screen, just glance up occasionally to see build progress. It keeps my mind engaged so I focus better on my work.
I really like the chiseled walls you put in the storage area, a design like that would make nice windows too if one didn’t want to use glass. (At least, in warm climates.)
What??? No, I expect your eyes glued to the screen at all times! :P Just kidding! That's great, though. I'm glad the series can be a good companion during creative time!
I've been really lagging on these episodes I'm starting to feel nostalgic whenever I watch them. I even thought that this was the lake building stream and got confused by the smithy pergola.
Speaking of family words, our family has lots of them and they're mostly tied to a specific intonation or gesture. One of the most memorable ones is saying yummy while pulling both hands on each side and pointing both index finger upwards. It's a copy of how ze bebe used to express two thumbs up with index fingers instead of thumb for some unknown reason. Another one that came from the same era is making finger hearts by intertwining the index and middle finger.
:) Family words are always fun, and they evolve over time, too!
You may be able to chisel the sand behind the wagons. you could do some stones or whatever spotted around in the sand.
If you're talking about the blocks right at the southern gate (the single door), those are protected and cannot be chiseled. The land claims go 1 block into the ground.
The path looks really good. Less speed bost, but the look is so worth it. It's a pity that the sped path has only one look.
I'm not sure what I like more, the building episodes or exploring or everyday tasks. Maybe it's the mix of everything. 😂
I already like this build. It looks very deserty. I love the materials.
Hey, thank you so much! I like to mix it up and get a bit of everything. I think all of the aspects of the game are fun or at least pleasant, even the chores... for the most part, at any rate! XD
@@Kurazarrh Yeah, VS is aspecial breed. There is something for everyone.
Sometimes I really want to build. But you're in a world, and life happens, and all of a sudden priority changes . And I love that. That makes it so exciting.
I don't think Tyron has figured out the water "animals" yet, other than the fish already in the game. Fish and shellfish are actually standard foods in ancient seashore civilizations and the specialized vitamins received by eating seafood, are one of the reasons why modern countries that have decent sized coastal regions are listed higher on the life expectancy charts. And it's because of the mounds and mounds of seafood shells littering midden piles over thousands of years that we've realized they're another source of lime.
Oh yeah, oysters were HUGE in the NE US for both of those reasons!
Imo that "can't put a path here and I'm not moving the wall out 1 block" is a perfectly valid time/excuse to hop into creative for 30seconds to spruce things up around the traders area.
I know it's slightly cheaty but I have done that a number of times to remove rogue bushes and crap from inside the trader camps(mod) or close to the solo traders. I died a couple times to a stupid wolf simply because of the damn bushes everywhere covering the entire trader camp. Thats when I decided it was OK to go into creative from time to time to do some "spring cleaning"... so if you use it VERY sparingly and only for very specific things like fixing pools of water or cleaning up trader areas I personally say it's ok. A few other VSers I watch will occasionally use creative to fix things it's nearly impossible to do in survival, usually just the 2 things I listed above or maybe installing some teleporter blocks for specific connections after some "challenge" was completed and "used resources" were sacrificed when back in survival if anything was used, ie throwing away 20 gravel after putting in the path in creative so it feels less cheaty.
I'm not comfortable using creative mode to make adjustments like that in a survival world.
A little late to the video, but what if you continued the square pattern on the forge pergola, but instead of cutting out the squares above the forge and anvil, you just indent the squares by one? That way, you could have your pattern continue, but it still keeps you dry.
That could be a neat solution! I'll give it a try, though there may be a threshold of voxels below which it won't provide cover, even if it looks like it should (the game does this with insulation, too).
Oh snap man... I just noticed that you have a MAJOR issue with the Ebony changes you made to the farms... rabbits can totally get up in there, they can hop up on the gravel and then onto the top of the 2 Ebony logs and blam your garden is screwed...
Then again I don't know if you'll even have rabbit spawns anywhere near your area... even still that's "an open door" for anything to get past the fencing and into those protected areas. It might not be a bad idea to either raise all the fences up 1 and go across the Ebony logs, or make the fences goofy and go over the logs but not raised up all the way around... or toss a simple Slab or slab+ sized decorative spike/dome on top the logs to prevent anything from jumping in.
Was gonna say... it's an easily-fixable issue. But I'm glad you noticed!
Mannnn...I'm a DM that doesn't shy away from killing characters, but it really depends on the game. I've tried running permanent injuries, which can trigger players more, but trying to wipe the party isn't the answer and you better be ready if your hand is forced to do so. I've done that one time, but it was just not going their way. I went ahead and reduced Max HP, they lost some items and whatnot, and a follower/pet was killed. There's sooooo many better ways to handle it.
Yeah, players (myself included) don't generally enjoy when their characters are permanently altered without their permission and without a reasonably accessible means of reversing it. Character loses an arm, and the party cleric casts Regenerate? Ok, fine. Character loses an arm at level 3, and the DM says that they can't find anyone in a huge city they can pay to cast Regenerate? Complete BS.
As a player, I love when I have to adapt to how the environment affects me, not where I’m immune and I affect the environment greatly with every step. But, if you don’t leave an avenue for players to get better, then it’s just a pain.
The problem is, I’ve had players who quit at the slightest hint of adversity. They get knocked out or captured and throw absolute fits. Players need to learn to accept certain things and maybe voice their displeasure at a certain aspect rather than just yell and quit (literally the vast majority of problem players I have).
That reminds me when I was playing Neverwinter Nights in a RP server a long long time ago and me and a friend were RPing around him (a half-orc) eating two or three of my fingers (cant remember exactly now). We were doing just for fun and had a few more players reacting the whole thing, but we didnt know a DM was invisible watching everything and he liked so much that he made a quest for us to play around to get my fingers back. I think we played a week around that quest and in the end we got a bunch of xp and I got a magic glove to replace the fingers I lost.
