- Vintage Story Desert Life is a desert-themed survival playthough in version 1.19, with a large list of mods to speed up the process of building and chiseling. While our builds will all (or at least mostly) be in the desert, we are not restricted to hot and arid climates for the purposes of gathering materials and resources.
This series exists as a series of VODs, as well, but for people who prefer their videos in a more manageable length, the VODs will be cut into these shorter episodes and released throughout the week after each livestream, provided that there is enough desire for this format.
Want to play along? You'll need the world files and all of these mods (likely) in order for it to work. Download links below.

Love the silly names for the chests. 😂
I also really like the detail after the bomb explodes, the little pieces still smoking. That’s a nice touch.
Haha, thank you! I was in a bit of a goofy mood during that chores stream! And yeah, the ore bombs are really well done!
You're not alone. 😊 I love the vanilla look too. I fell in love with it when I first saw a thumbnail of vintage story. I never get why people insist VS looks like the other block game. The other one makes my eyes bleed. It does not look natural at all.
They did a very good job at making VS look natural and beautiful. I don't mind that there are not so many colorful things. For me it's better than the other way around. There are not too many vibrant colors in nature, except maybe carpets of flowers. Vibrant colors were mostly from precious stones and very expensive to make, some were even forbidden for the lower classes. Chemistry changed that.
I enjoy both games but for different reasons. Sometimes I do want the vibrancy of that other block game... Though that's become rare of late!! I much prefer the mechanics and depth of Vintage Story!
@@Kurazarrh I think my taste for colors goes back to the GDR. If you live you're formative years in a country that has no colors, where everything humans build and create is more or less shades of gray with some splashes of whatever in it, you get used to it.
Especially Americans are trained the opposite way, with a riot of bright colors everywhere. I never got used to it. I love colors, but not everywhere at once. Even the fairytales I read as a kid had subtle illustrations, very different from the disney esthetics. The colorscheme of VS is like coming home for me. 😁
I really struggle finding things to do after mastering the Iron Age. I end up just waiting for animals to make babies so I can make cheese. I feel like there should be a civilization mod where you can help build up a city for NPC’s
I usually start building a little village, with dedicated buildings for specific functions, like blacksmith shops, mills, tanneries, grainery, fishing huts, and stuff. The building keeps the game interesting for me for a while. But i do agree with you, that it would be nice to have larger npc settlements, quests and other interactions.
With the game still being in development, it kind of makes sense that once you get to the highest tech tiers, you end up having to make your own fun. For me, the game turns into a pure block-building and exploration experience. If you haven't been to the Resonance Archives yet, I highly recommend it!
You mentioned Juicy Ores, I haven't heard of that one but I did find "Visible Ore"... it doesn't change the ore colors too much but it does make them all a tiny bit brighter and a few a bit more obvious like gold and silver (rather than 1 nugget visible in the quartz there's like 10 nuggets visible)
Overall the colors stay the same but just become a bit more shaded to make the ore colors pop. I saw a couple other mods that drastically changed the look but this one I found is fantastic, there's even a handful of ores that the mod doesn't change because there's no need.
Ok I looked up Juicy Ores... yeah NOT a fan either... too much chunk added and no color touch-up, that's what Visible Ores does just a color touch up to make the Ores actually visible and not 0.0005% of a shade difference from the stone... xD
Yeah, I stand by my earlier opinion that the ores look good, just that zinc in granite needs a bit more definition. I don't really have an issue with silver/gold in quartz, either, since it's more than just one little spot of color.
I didn't mind the previous reach, especially if you had to walk towards the item far away. Player has really lengthy arms. Now it seems bugged you can't reach across 1 block.
Yeah the extra reach was really nice! It does feel a bit limiting now.
Don't get me started on Lowenas.
Had to look those up! (And search results showed mostly "Lowe's" results, but I finally found out what lowenas are!)
