Hermitcraft 10: Episode 24 - MY BANNED SHOP

- In this episode of Hermitcraft Season 10, Mumbo realises that the Permanent Iron Pile has been wrongly identified as a pop up shop and removed by the Poe-Poe. Mumbo then builds an incredibly detailed and large iron shop that has special sound effects and redstone elevators.

I want to make a correction; It's Cub who has acquired a peachy pair of hams, not Skizz.
This is one of those things where my brain got caught on a loop - I know it's Cub, I even refer to Cub later in the same clip, I just couldn't get Skizz out of my head.
Goes to show the last time you've seen Cub

You should build a second elevator that goes all the way down to bedrock where the iron is at a slight discount and see how many people are willing to endure that elevator ride just to save a few diamonds

Yeah, that would be a funny idea.
That's such a cool idea.

Not a "Lawyer" perse, but I pretended to be one in a D&D game. To answer your legal questions at the end:
1. Breaking into a "compound" is what we consider "assumed risk" where it should be guarded. There was also no visible sign that said either "do not enter" or "This is ours now" so you should be good.
2. It is lead by Scar who you are currently in legal litigation with you in "Ron's" and you with... "some vex's last week" so any move against you could be seen as unlawful retaliation.
3. Your shop was objectivly an extension of the gold shop making it a legitimate shop.
4. You are Mumbo the Jumbo, look at your mustache. That Mustache could do nothing wrong!
what about adding mustache onto S̶k̶i̶z̶z̶ Cubfan?
I think once pretending to be a lawyer in a D&D game is official enough for me👍
Disclaimer, this is not legal advice.
Laws may vary by season.
Qualifications: -Fictional- Definitely real Lawyer
On point 3. I'm pretty sure there's a rule about the permits that says each permit must have it's own shop. I can't remember when it was established but when the rules were explained wasn't that part of it? Technically the iron wasn't in a shop at all. It was on a shop that didn't pertain to it.
Not a lawyer, but law student. Technically since the permit office didn’t pay you for the stock, they converted your property and you could sue them for the stock or the value of the stock. Big Ron’s lawyer can help you out more because I’m not licensed in Hermitcraft court.

For those who don't know, lightning strikes can reset copper oxidation, but it can't if its waxed... That's why Xisuma sells waxed fully oxidized copper.
That is not why. His farm automatically waxes all the copper at all the different stages. So it is not waxed on purpose
@@AvatarNithikI would argue that proves he waxes all the copper on purpose, as it's in the design of the farm.
Maybe not waxed for that specific purpose, but for a purpose nonetheless

Hi Mumbo, just weighing in on the "what era are the mines from" discussion - the iron mine seems like a fairly typical British 1800s iron mine and steel refinery, maybe 1820s to 1880s, and the wheel and conveyor on the top is the spitting image of the Orgreave coal mine in Sheffield, from 1842.
As for the gold mine, it looks like a late California Gold Rush style, as that's when TNT and minecarts entered common usage for the first time, so that places it around 1850 to 1870.
Essentially, your two mines really aren't that far apart in terms of time period, but because of the different parts of the world they originate from and the scarcity of the two different resources, the techniques they use are wildly different!
very informative o:
This is very interesting, thank you!
This was really interesting
I had to pause the video to find this and its incredible youve done a service.
So since the gold one is older than the iron one in here, we could say it is from the 1850s and the iron one from the 1880s
Edit: Dynamite was invented in 1866 so it is probably from the late 60s or early 70s
However the iron one being older is possible too since it is just a fun build in the shopping district
Mumbo, please- PLEASE sue the Poe Poe. It could be soo much fun
16:02 From what I can tell, the Iron mine could be attributed to The early industrial revolution considering the wither head's making a steam sound. So thatd be around late 18th to early 19th century Britain. The other farm looks like a pretty traditional pre-industrial mine. Id place it to around early 18th century Europe if it werent for the TNT. Considering dynamite was invented in 1867 and used heavily in the US for mining afterwards (without much industrial gear used by said country for mining). That mine could also be placed at around 100yrs AFTER the ironmill in the Americas.
At no point was Mumbo's iron shop condemned for being a pop-up shop (and it clearly wasn't, according to Mumbo). The warning sign out front was because of a lack of stock, which you already took steps to fix, so you could argue that the iron shop was illegally impounded
I think Mumbo should sue Scar.
- The robery of the iron decor
- The damage and emotional damage done from his mob "Magic Hands"
I agree to this.
Also do not respond to bots. I have reported them for violent or repulsive content. As they are repulsive.
@@ThefifthBishopofGord I know. WT*?
He should totally get in touch with a lawyer to see if his claims hold any water
I think the robbery case would fall over because Scar was acting in an official role, doing an officially sanctioned job.
The Magic Hands Guy case, on the other hand...
@@williamjones5334 It was ofcial, yes. But it was:
- part of a bigger shop. So no need for the pop up purge. Just like with Pearl boneshop or Cleos' wheat shop or ¿Jevins? purpur shop
- Even if it wasn't, the new building was allready functional. So, it could calified as advertisement.
Couple suggestions:
1. Magical mountain does have the plan to turn into a volcano, so terraforming the mountain in dark tones behind your build could hit two birds with one stone, so to speak.
2. For some cool noises for the iron shop, I like to use a few villagers hidden somewhere with the blacksmith job. Adding that hammer hitting an anvil sound would go right in with a mining sound.
Adding villagers is a really good idea! Would adding a silence tag to them make the villager noises quiet while still keeping the blacksmith noises?
@josalyncashman5846 Hadn't thought of that, but I can't see why not.
@@josalyncashman5846What's a silence tag?
@@stephenlindsey7876it’s genuinely a good idea. Definitely would be worth a shot.
@ethanmorrobel4410 If you rename a name tag to "silence" (or "silenced," not sure which one) and then name tag a mob, it will stop all noises that mob makes. Similar to how "jeb" makes sheep rainbow through colors, or how "dinnerbone" flips the mob upside down.

It looks like the gold mine is a classic Wild west gold rush style (1800's) while Iron is more mass production industrial revolution era (1700's)
Also yes you can take back your iron stock. In real life the closest law is regarding impounded vehicles and in those cases you can't remove the vehicle but can take back any items you forgot in it so yeah you are good...unless its part of a criminal investigation.
I'm pretty sure it's just impounded so he should be fine
Me finding this while he asks for mining history buffs is very satisfying
pretty sure you still need to go through the proper channels...
Then again knowing the permit office the season would be over before Mumbo got his stock back so yeah
The Industrial Revolution is marked as starting in the mid-to-late 1700s, but spanned roughly a century. An iron mill like Mumbo's probably would have appeared towards the end of that era, around the mid 1850s or 60s (intersecting or shortly the following the California Gold Rush)
Part of criminal investigation... pop up shops have been just made illegal, right? They were tasked with removing stuff and it did not happen.. is that enough to be criminal? Or are we trusting Scar and Skizz to "investigate"?
I'm not a history buff, but I really like the differing styles between the two mines... The gold mine resembles an old-timey prospector gold mine, while the iron mine resembles a more industrial revolution era iron mine. That's pretty fitting imo.
Fun fact! Those two eras are actually from the same time! It's just such a large span of time that I have no clue when exactly! But they 100% COULD be from the same year!
Fun

@@BasicallyBaconSandvichIV could very well be the same year, just different locations, like east vs west cost of the us around 1860s or so
@@jewbearidk Exactly. That was what I was thinking too! It could be American gold mine vs European coal mine. Great minds think alike!
Hi there, I come from a mining family so I thought I'd give some insight on your mine builds: The Gold Shop seems to be modelled on a 19th century North American gold mine, the type you would see in old western movies, whilst The Iron Shop looks to be modelled more on English iron/coal mines in the 1970s/80s, in use until Margaret Thatcher shut down the mines in the mid-80s.

Mining engineer here. The gold mine reminds me of a 1600s-1800s ish mine. The iron mine, or at least the picture you based it off of, looks like a modern mine/headframe you might see in Africa. Also, the piston noises you made actually remind me a LOT of underground sump (water) pumps. They're pretty loud too.
There’s a lot of similar industrial buildings in America’s Rust Belt in the Midwest that are 100+ years old. They started springing up during the Industrial Revolution, so honestly the gold mine and the iron mine could have been contemporaries

shoutout to Mumbo's political views, one of the creators I can really say I align with when it comes to priorities. I think he's just a creative at heart and that leads to a love of art and the people that make it
Your mines align nicely in time, but not in place. The gold mine probably takes place during the gold rush (1848-1855). The gold rush generally occurred in what is now California, Nevada, Colorado, and New Mexico. Your iron farm likely takes from a mine in Pennsylvania. The mining elevator was perfected in 1835, so it is possible that the two mines took place at the same time. (I don't know everything, just some basic research. I could be wrong, feel free to correct me.)
Well you've got some of the best evidence I've seen yet! Very good estimate!
I agree with your placement on the gold mine though I think the iron mine would have been closer to the 1870/1880 range it seems more Industrial Revolution than turn of the century
Personally for the gold mine I think the mine was made waaay before but they added the steel chain block pulley and steel railways later. For example the mine carts exits out of a tunnel so miners were still manually transporting ore. The steel chain block pulley was made in 1854 and metal railways were used in the 1870s. So while the elevator was made during this time the mines were already made long ago and could not be easily implemented. So the mine that is being depicted now is somewhere in the 1870s but was made before that.
Also both have to be made before the invention of ore conveyer belts as both use mine carts and mines carts were replaced by conveyer belts. So before 1892.
Also the iron mine lift here is powered by steam and steam elevator were getting replaced by Hydraulic elevators in the 1870s. This could surprisingly mean the iron shop was stop being used before the gold shop.
I think the most amazing thing is the amount of environmental storytelling that Mumbo has gotten into this season. The sound effects for the shop were on a whole other level.
"When in doubt just steal from Scar." is actually probably THE SINGLE BEST PIECE OF TERRAFORMING ADVICE OUT THERE.
When terraforming: STEAL FROM SCAR.
Hey Mumbo, you know when you suddenly realize that you’re being suspiciously productive and then realize it’s because you’re procrastinating a bigger project?
Mumbo: I'm not a builder, I'm a redstone guy
Also Mumbo: Spends all his time building and has a chest monster instead of a storage system 👀
I love how mumbo is so good in two very hard skill sets (building and Red-stone) But is like "I am so bad at building" But then makes the best redstone/building I have every seen.
You know, I might be able to explain this phenomenon, I am not great at building at all, nor am I at art, but I am a musician, and I can tell you very well (almost)every single riff/song I created I thought "what is this/how would anyone listen to this" however, when I showed it to my friends, they say it's great(not all of them obviously but the majority), also whenever I'm playing in my room, my dad(who's a guitarist) occasionally comes in my room complimenting how I am improving but I really can't see it.Another example is my cousin, she is an artist, and almost everytime she shows me her art I think "damn, that's amazing" but she's complaining on all the things she didn't draw well or details she could've added.Basically, what I can conclude is that you're comparing your work to your inspiration (whether it's your favourite music artist or references to your drawing) and you think it's bad because it isn't what your inspiration was.Of course there's the case where you're composing or drawing from something you imagined that you'd thought be beautiful, yet when you're finished, suddenly it doesn't really satisfy you, and you tell yourself you can make it better, but don't know how, which leads to frustration and eventually calling yourself just bad at it.
Edit:Also something I saw on quora discussing about this, saying that only the creator knows all the places they messed up, everyone else just sees the final product(idk what word to use)
2nd Edit:Regarding the first edit, once I had a homework assignment to make a haiku(3 verse simple poem) and to add something with it, I decided to make a little song which would go along, it took me 50 goddamn minutes to make a 30 second video of me playing and "singing"(narrating) whatever haiku I made, the next day when I presented it I heard and saw all the mistakes and couldn't be more embarrassed about it, I wasn't even able to ask my friends what they think lol, but they told me it actually was nice

I think Jevin has gained a supporter for anti poe-poe. Also Mumbo 100% has a case, I don't remember there being a warning for the iron shop unless they changed their mind at some point.
he did have a warning, but they specifically put it there because there was no iron left. So basically he did what they asked and his shop still got confiscated

Hey Mumbo, your builds are super inspiring! The tower you've designed has that 1700s vibe, with intricate details and a classic feel, really reminiscent of old-world craftsmanship. Meanwhile, the work shack looks like it's straight out of the 1900s, when architecture became more about practicality and functionality. It even reminds me of how the introduction of electricity in the 1900s revolutionized building designs, allowing for new tools and layouts. It's awesome to see how you've incorporated these historical elements into your builds!

Mumbo please.... I can't believe you didn't say "Progress is *tough* "... you had your chance.... you soiled it...
Sometimes a good joke subverts your sandwiches
the adding of sound to your shop has just given it like a whole extra dimension. It's amazing Mumbo!

Mix various cyan, purple, grey, light grey terracotta with the rooted dirt you saw from scar. The tangent greys and browns will add that depth and be distinct enough not to blend with your trees.

6:00 its the staypuft marshmallow man from ghostbusters :D nothing strange about it being in Impulse and bdub's city, nothing strange about that at all... (:
Impy got too good at Phasmophobia and now the ghosts want revenge.
Best estimations for the two types of mines are 1848-1855 (California gold rush) for the gold farm, and >1860's for the iron farm (introduction of the shaft sinking method)
hey mumbo!! i just have to say that the way that you added fenceposts to the trees give them a super unique appearance (IN A GOOD WAY!!!). especially because of scars trees in the background, with the fenceposts peeking out it totally looks like you have a collection of growing sequoias while scar has a bunch of fully grown ones (even though his are more red woodsy). growing sequoias have like. green bits at the top so they can still grow. like they havent hardened yet into actual bark/wood. the fenceposts at the top that you added totally makes it look like that!! anyways loving the trees mumbo!!! thought it would be cool to point out lol
legitimately such a phenomenal design for this shop. the elevator idea was amazing, but adding the sound scape to really sell the vibe is just incredible. also love that the sound ends up getting louder when you go down into the mine. so so cool!!
19:38 Hey, I'm not a lawyer, but if you want a second opinion, I am a doctor, and you're fine :)
Well good enough for me.
19:30 build something outside the compound and make it look like someone broke in. (then maybe sell other peoples stuff back to them as a black market) cough cough cough
I think the area behind the trees needs to be stonier. Dirt would just make the wood of the trees blend in too much (after all that careful copying you did of Scar ;) ). The Greyer bases are lower down, so you won't see them as much, and if you do, it may look like the trees growing out of the stone, which'd be cool. You'd also have grass/dirt on the ground, so they wouldn't be right on one another anyway. If you're still worried, you could add gradients with deepslate so the lighter trees stand out. Stone would make sense, as you're on a cliff and would make the leaves and branches pop more (which make up the bulk of the trees).
Also, with regards to your shop, since you've had to lower the noteblocks to reduce the range, you could maybe set up two noteblocks per hopper to boost the volume but still staying in sync. It may mean there're two different sound overlapping, but might be worth a try, because the sounds are cool and the range is good, but it seemed a little quiet to me. :D
Seeing the gold farm's minecart zoom around in circles in the timelapse is wonderful i love it
The sounds add so much of a nice touch and brings in the immersion so well.
17:10 For the conveyer "flaps" I think a Grey or black color would be better to try to hint at rubber material
