If subgrid jank wasn't as much of a problem as it is i would love to have this on more ships
subgrids have gotten a lot better and I can see something pretty simple like this working so long as you dont put too many thrusters on each one.
@@maxx1o1 I can see it too, though it's very, VERY, easy to mess it up especially using timer blocks or scripts or what not, and even worse so if you controlled it manually. even in this day of age, I still only suggest this level of subgrids on your ships for purely aestiecal systems, nothing that could criple your ship nearly fully. And especially do not use subgrids with drone, does it work, yes. does it cause a lot of jank especially if your using auto launch and dock set ups, also yes

@@maxx1o1 ah yes, good old multiplayer, i actually don't have to many issues with it in multiplayer but i play super small local games, where my friends just join me

That is a really cool design. I will say it took me nearly an hour of rewatching and testing the design to figure out how it works. As far as I can tell there is an advanced rotor at the second joint hidden behind plates. At least that's the one I recreated in sandbox mode.
Wait, you didn’t have the problem with the thrusters being the incorrect direction? That’s why I couldn’t accomplish this.
@@odd_bobble9106 Not sure what that meant, but it did take some trying. As far as I've tested the thrusters work just fine in the configuration you have them. What I would say is if you want them the other direction get a lifter ship. Something that will allow you to pull the door off the rotor and swap it around. If you use a rotor head on both sides you already have a dual directional thruster mount. You would just need to delete one of them to choose what side the door should be on.

My problem is that when placing the thruster it would be assigned a direction (port, starboard, bow, stern, up, or down) and the direction was always wrong. Even if I lucked out on the vector I never had the ability to use WASD shift space anyway.

I actually made something simmilar to this but each thruster had its own rotar and could rotate 180 degrees so that it could be used for bonus thrust, side thrust or reverse thrust

It’s already incredible that you can stick thrusters on anything and the game works out how it flies etc but it’s time they added baked in compatibility with articulation like putting thrusters at the end of rotors and getting more use out of the one thruster etc

This makes a lot more sense for sc-fi combat vessels than having their reverse thrusters mounted (exposed) on the bow of the vessel.

its intresting but unless your dealing with atmospheric flight and drag I am not sure what purpose they would solve. it doesn't avoid them of damage as they take up the same or more space as regular thrusters of the same mass. It looks cool though. would make a good torpido launcher.

i thought this was a modded block as there is no real way to tell that it's multiple blocks. you can't really tell how big the ship is because of the smooth armor.

Neither. It's just a couple thrusters mounted on a rotor so that they can swing in and out of a retracted position.

@@corphoenix5579 tbh, I'd have just assumed they would function, as I thought that sub grid thrusters are set to dampener mode so would automatically dampen the speed. But, the script works aswell xD
