- Vintage Story Desert Life is a desert-themed survival playthough in version 1.19, with a large list of mods to speed up the process of building and chiseling. While our builds will all (or at least mostly) be in the desert, we are not restricted to hot and arid climates for the purposes of gathering materials and resources.
This series exists as a series of VODs, as well, but for people who prefer their videos in a more manageable length, the VODs will be cut into these shorter episodes and released throughout the week after each livestream, provided that there is enough desire for this format.
Want to play along? You'll need the world files and all of these mods (likely) in order for it to work. Download links below.

Your place alreaady looks like a real oasis. It's beautiful with the watersource and the plants. And functional, too. Short ways, I like that.
:D Thank you! I'm really enjoying living and building in this little place!
Looks like I came in real early on this stream. Anyways, it's really a pleasure to be have these episodes available so that I don't have to rewatch a whole stream when I want to have a taste of desert life during breaks.
:) Awesome, I'm glad to hear you like the episode format!
I’m slowly building up my copper lantern supply for deep mining. Found a nearby hematite disc as well as a large white marble chunk and a halite chunk, but the halite is 3 days walk from my base 😂. I need more lanterns and a second base I think.
I usually like to empty out iron deposits in one or two trips, to save on that kind of prep time! As for the salt dome, an easy solution for light is to just dig a 1x1 hole to the surface and allow sunlight into the mineshaft! :)
All that coal mining makes me crave cookies n cream ice cream. lol (Too many textures in VS look like food!)
Regarding the fish spawning, I gather it’s a temperature thing. I haven’t ever seen any near my base, where it’s plenty fertile but very hot year round. But now I’m hanging out somewhere 20*F cooler and there’s fish everywhere. In big and small ponds alike. 🐟
If you switched to the Necessaries mod, the lantern just goes in the first slot of your storage and you can use any lantern, not just brass. Also, the light level will be whatever the lantern is, i.e., if you have a silver/gold lining, it will be brighter.
I know that if you use the Still Useful Stuff mod by Stahl, putting a lantern, vanilla or most modded, in the first slot of your backpack, leather or most modded, will light up the surrounding area without you having to hold it in your left hand slot. I'm not sure about the light level. So with the A Wearable Light mod by misterandydandy, there are three mods that let you use a lantern with a backpack (not sure about modded backpacks). Necessaries and Still Useful Stuff you put the lantern in the first (top left) inventory slot, and in A Wearable Light, you put the backpack and lantern into your crafting table to "hang" the lantern from your backpack. I like that you don't have to use up an inventory slot with A Wearable Light, and you have more lighting options with that mod, too.
Yeah I'm not super thrilled with the amount of light we're getting with A Wearable Light. Looks like we're only getting light level 12, compared to a lantern's actual of 18.
My only gripe with those other mods is that they add a lot of other things I don't really want in the game.
@@Kurazarrh I wonder if a reflective plate in the lantern would raise it above 12.
@@Kurazarrh I believe there's a config file and you can turn off what you don't want.
Can the ceramic hive be mounted on top of something? It seems too tiny.
I don't think it can be mounted as part of another block, but it can probably be set on a block to make it taller.
Why don t you install a mod for plate / Arrow head / chisel etc molds? I have Always thought that Is strange they aren't in the vanilla game
I do have the arrowhead mold, so I could do some of that. Might need to make some molds during the upcoming chores stream!
I don't know enough about metallurgy or metalsmithing to know whether a mold for a flat plate is realistic--I do know that for some metal objects, you need to beat or roll the metal into the shape rather than casting it. But I don't know which shapes, or the reasons behind the options!
"Peanuts are kinda just neat"
Lol i know right? We can make Bread and Jam and we have Peanuts but cant make Peanut Butter nor combine any of the aboved mentioned into a sandwich or toast of some sort... like come on man literally all of the ingredients are there including the tools and yet we cant make sandwiches!!! Imagine if we just learned how to slice things, the world of oppertunity that would be opened would be vast. Alas we eat bread whole by the loaf, cheese whole by the 1/4 wheel slice and we cant comprehend how to pour or dip bread nor cheese onto/into Jam so we just eat it by the bowl full. We have mastered the art of multiple different alloyed metals as well as steel production, with a modicum of mechanical automation for the grindy grindy and smashy smashy of things. Yet we remain totally ignorant to the concept of grinding or smashing Peanuts into a spreadable paste.
Silly Seraphs...
You can if you have Expanded Foods!!!
I do think that the one additional food type that I could live with would definitely be sandwiches, as a way to use baked bread and actually being able to get the satiation pause from it.
