Guy is confident that his pocket-sized refillable water bottle can help stop excessive waste. The entrepreneur is willing to give away 10% of his company for a £100K investment from the Dragons. However things quickly take a dramatic turn as Dragons can't help but feel misled by Guy's pitch.
    An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

      @Jay Jay Reusable plastic is not a problem. Hear me out. Let's take a plastic bag. Single use plastic bags are bad, right? Now if I tell you it takes more energy and releases more CO2 to produce a paper bag. You need to reuse a paper bag 3 times to make it more environmentally friendly than a single use plastic bag. Most paper bags won't last 3 shopping trips even if you wanted to use them. What about textile bags? Well those you need to reuse 131 times to make it as environmentally friendly. That's only taking into account production. More co2, is released in transportation. Now what about plastic bags for life. They need to be reused 4 times to make them environmentally friendly. Now what are you more likely to do: reuse a bag for life 4 times or a textile bag 131 times.

They saw him as a threat that's why the overreacted.

      The guy is nice and he has good intention, but it is a terrible product to invest him. He tries to differentiate himself from other reusable bottle by the fact his could be collapsed and fit into a pocket. But really, does that add value to the product? In my opinion, I don't think so for very much the same reason one of them mentioned. When you are at a water fountain, why not just drink directly from the fountain as the device is intended to be used. When it contain water, it isn't exactly "Fit in your pocket" anymore than any other reusable water bottle.
      I feel bad for the man being ridiculed, but there doesn't have to be an ulterior motive to think the idea just doesn't cut really cut it. It sells and will generate profit, but it isn't something that will realistically grow to be more than what he is asking for.

      It's a bad idea with no viable advantages over the conventional bottle market. Not only are you wasting time & effort collapsing & then re-enlarging this bottle, like that one dragon pointed out, but what wasn't even mentioned was that you are also subjecting the plastic material comprising this product to cracking by constantly opening & closing it. What also wasn't mentioned was that a large majority of conventional water bottles do get recycled.
      With that stated, I will agree with some of the other commenters on here that the dragons could have acted a little more professionally & respectful towards the entrepreneur, rather than just responding to him with a condescending attitude.

      Khal Drogo ofc there is proof.. u can look up the numbers for energy consumption CO2 emission and all that for a very established process like extruding plastic. He said in his pitch that after three uses it's already more environment friendly than a normal single use plastic bottle. It's not about changing the world overnight, but using reusable bottles will lead to reducing the single use water containers. To me that seams very reasonable. Also, do you really think that other food grade materials besides plastic are more environment friendly? How do you arrive at that conclusion?

      But that was Duncan’s whole point? as he said that just before he declared himself out. So the whole point was that he wouldn’t invest in in. Because you CANT carry it around like a proper bottle, you need to drink it where you stand (like a paper cup, and as you just said, who would want to carry around a paper cup....) so you kinda made Duncan’s point for him. That being said however, I did think this Gentleman should of been treated far far better than he was. I don’t like his idea, but he was polite, eloquent, patient and certainly didn’t deserve to be torn apart the way he was here. • @samuel1836
      @samuel1836 Před 4 lety +2

      Vicketoma Yes ofcourse you could do that, but that would take up the same space of a regular bottle, which is the whole point of this invention (and the multi use issue, which only affects disposable plastic bottles) the whole point is to not be carrying a bottle around like a regular sports bottle. Even if you bring it to the gym and only use it there (as Duncan pointed out) you would have a bag with you, so the compact feature wouldn’t really come into it, as you may as well just put a normal bottle in your bag. I mean I’m sure there will be people who purchase and use it, and I wish the inventor every success, he seems a nice man. I was just explaining why Duncan made the paper cup analogy. Not sure if this Gentleman is still in business, but I’m sure he has come up with lots of neat other products in the mean time. Here in Finland we pay a bit more for bottled (and canned) drinks and we get that extra money back when we return the bottle (or can) to any grocery shop. That way all the bottles get recycled. The amount of money is usually between 0,15 and 0,4 € per bottle or can.
    And you don't need to return it yourself. Because of this in bigger cities you can pretty much just leave bottles anywhere and somebody will pick it up soon and take it to a grocery shop for the money. When I was a kid, it was quite common that next morning after any bigger event we would walk around the event area and collect empty bottles. It was nice little income for keeping environment clean and getting those bottles recycled.
    I'm pretty sure that this method started back when the material for bottles was scarce, so it had to be recycled. But luckily the practice kept going.

      @@alec6583 Giving someone tired or short of breath some water is like one of the most basic obvious things you do though, you shouldn't even have to pay for that if you're working there, and those plastic bottles don't seem so appealing once you see enough sludge microplastic wasteland we've made.

      @LaBapeKing honest question, would you not have a bag with you to keep, say, a steel reusable bottle in? that's my only issue with it, i carry a reusable bottle with me in a bag, but would it being foldable be useful in your circumstances?

    I think the dragons are plainly wrong here. I would go into a shop and ask them to fill up my reusable bottle and I know loads of people who would. I’ve got a coffee cup that is collapsible, it’s great
