If it's an actual cab you want, get an uber. Also, just getting a cab would be cheaper than paying for directions. £1 a min is the rate from landlines, it's more from mobiles and it's a mobile that your gonna be calling from if you're out!

    Deborah was bang on the money with the "declining market" thing. This episode aired in 2006 and sure enough not 3 years later (a time he said they'd be making 30% profit) EVERYONE has Google maps on their phone, which does this for free and considerably better than anyone trying to give directions to someone OVER THE PHONE. Ridiculous idea. Add to that the general growing distrust/hatred towards charged phone calls/phone calls in general, and you have a challenger for the worst invention I've ever seen. This is honestly worse than the flow signals thing in my opinion.

I suppose policemen were expected to be on top of things and needed pocket watches or something along those lines to keep close track of time, hence regular people would go and ask them.
      But obviously in modern times everyone and their mother's got a phone which tells time, so asking an officer is... well, not pointless, but it's just like asking any other person, regardless of their job.

    The AA had a similar service way back in the 70s, it might have started even earlier. I remember my old man using it in the mid 80s when we were hopelessly lost. It was beyond me how they knew where we were and how to direct us to our destination.
    It really amazed me how it worked, my kid imagination thought it had something to do with the AA badge on our grill. Somehow they located us using it

      Google maps had so ready been launched by 2006, in 2005 in fact so his model was dying before it began. Mobile ownership was high and getting higher, Internet access getting ever faster and more reliable on fones etc. He failed to see the future.

    Deborah was so right, that by now we don’t even use the sat nav integrated into the car even if it has it, we use carplay and our phones.
    Back in the mid 00’s I did try a service my cell carrier had with traffic updates. Used it a couple of times, hated it, soon enough came smartphones
