The gay son sketches by Catherine Tate are really funny
they need an understanding of the peculiar world of Northern Irish religion / politics though.
@@ghughesarch Even without that it’s still riotously funny.
The best suburban mum ever sketch is "Posh family reacts to northern nanny". You even get to hear some real northern accents.
Felicitations .
As someone from The Outer London Suburbs, one has to concur though it dies sound absolutely ghastly.
I simply must away as I am in the most fearful rush as I have 8 coming for Supper ce soir.
Caio....
@IsleofSkye...🤣🤣 Moi aussi!!
SILENTLY waving from the smoggy ol North East 🤣
*Silent ain't somethin we do easy le'me'tel'ya 🤭
Harry Enfield. Women know you limits. Come on lads. Get it done.
what about the kittens !!!!!
Catherine Tate’s Lauren the schoolgirl character boys. The “tattoo sketch”and the David Tennant English teacher sketch.
Yes!!! Lauren is magnificent!
I said it before and I will say it again Lauren, these guys know what we want ☝️👍👊
As well as the David Tennant Christmas sketch with Nan.
The word POSH, stands for "port out, starboard home. Back in colonial days when you had to travel to India by ship, the port side was away from the sun when going to India as was the starboard side going from India to England.
POSH meant your cabin was considerably cooler (no AC back then). These cabins were sold at a premium, so it was only the rich that could afford them.
If that's true then wow. I never knew that. Very interesting
@@milkysue5496 It's true. Even as late as the Titanic it was a common practice by first class.
It is NOT true. It’s just another false folk etymology for which there is zero evidence.
Gooseberry and cinnamon yoghurt, makes me laugh every time, to the point where I watch it if I just want to laugh
The agency nanny 😂
LOL, Daniel did put it perfectly
S: "It's just an egg. Just crack that shit open!"
D: "That requires Effort.."
S: "..yeah but.."
D: "..and they have people that Effort for them."
loved it guys.
Perfect yet over exaggerated parody of how over entitled and over privileged some of the middle and upper class are in the UK!
the way the children really play up to this is brilliant!
Catherine Tate on The Graham Norton Show telling Tom Cruise how she came up with the Nan Character... its absolutely hilarious
Posh family reacts to northern nanny by Catherine Tate is funny too. The one the I find really funny is: "Northerer terrifies Londoners by saying " Hello"👌😅
That’s the Mash report sketch Northerners 😄
@@jemmajames6719 yes, 😂
POSH, Rich Victorian travelling to India via boat . Port Out, Starboard Home. Kept them out of strong sunshine 🌞 . Preserved their delicate skin !
Very true! But i think it was going to USA actually
@@badgerx51 Nope: all about heading South - why would you go outside of Empire ?
@@dexstewart2450 Yeah, you are right, they used the suez and red sea.
Passage to India, portside going so you're in the shade.
I'm 99% certain it's a folk etymology though.
This woman is just brilliant
Race and class are not the same thing in the UK. It’s not a “white people thing” over here. Our class system is very very different to the US.
But Posh Mum is one of my favourite Catherine Tate characters, I’m glad you watched! I love the gooseberry and cinnamon yoghurt one.
Yes you’re absolutely right!
Poor ppl are dirt in the uk, regardless of shade
She’s such a talent & all her characters, so funny 🤣🤣🤣🤣🏴🏴
The funniest thing about this, is your faces trying to understand what your watching🤣
I keep wondering if you guys are dodging Catherine Tate's most iconic character 'Lauren' for some reason, if not GO THERE!!!!!! The David Tenant sketch is probably the best x
The Tennant might not come across as well if you're not familiar with Doctor Who though.
@@user-xo2ix3pt7k True - in which case the French one!
@Emily Cutler..Totally Emily!X
This reminds of the sketch where someone asks Prince Charles were the letter opener is and Charles replies it's his day off
yeah the Catherine tate "Lauren, am i bothered" character was one of the original's and worth checking out ! loving the reactions boys, from england.
It's crazy that people like this really do exist, but...at the end of it all, we all end up the same way, in the ground or up the chimney!
Lauren the school girl is the best character. The David Tennant sketch is hilarious
I went to a posh school. It was so posh the gym was called James
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
8 out of cats doing countdown should definitely be on you list ( Sean Locke has just died ,bless) carrot in a box is funny ,or pretty much anything !
Watched Carrot In a Box the other day, hilarious!
Joe Wilkinson’s poem. Enough said lol
Are these shows not aired in the U.S I wonder?
@@simontunnicliffe2107 No. And any shows that air, don't air long before an American version is made.
@@skechyassmofo :-(
Catherine Tate is a brilliant actress aside from her comedy content. It is het great acting that makes her show and sketches so funny.
The Sheila Carter funeral sketch is fantastic
catherine tate is how i discovered this channel , glad people still have a sense of humor these days.
A New subscriber from MOROCCO
I really like these two guys they're very down to earth. Great content too 👍
Posh means 'port out, starboard home' and that was how the upper classes would travel by sea.
No, it doesn’t. That’s a myth.
Most likely derived from Romani posh (“half”), either because posh-kooroona (“half a crown”) (originally a substantial sum of money) was used metaphorically for anything pricey or upper-class, or because posh-houri (“half-penny”) became a general term for money.
Great to see some more of Katherine.
Any chance of some Sean lock????😃👍
Daniel - I am British and I’m going to eat you up!! Love you pair!! 🤣🤣🤣
This is Catherine’s representation of the 1% of society and the 99th watches
….and also all Lauren, the American football cheerleader sketch, French teacher sketch and “the homophobe” sketch - all hilarious.
Most of us Brits are just normal 🤣🤣
"Cometh the hour, cometh the man." That belongs on this week's "caption this" pic' 😂
Lauren. 👍 keep up bringing us great content lads 👍👍👍
Catherine Tate did posh so well 😂
The kids are brilliant.
You guys are brilliant! 🤣🤣🤣
It’s spot on. You can imagine that this is what it was like when Nigella Lawson brought up her kids!
love you 2 guys specially the one on the left and right
I'd have chosen Derek for your next Catherine Tate reaction tbh... posh mum is good but Derek is second only to Nan!
Some more Sean Lock.
Still hoping you'll look at the band Suede, one of the main Britpop act's. Pretty sure you'd like guitarist Bernard Butler.
"Mommy, my egg!!" 🤣
Good one guys I can see you guys are like us british.... down to earth, hope u get ur million subs 👍
Posh comes from the upper classes sailing ie port out starboard home so they were always next to the dockside.
When you said draught the second time. it was with a really good northern accent! too much KP haha
POSH equates to Port Out Starboard Home For first class steam boat passengers back in the day
And the Football team for my home City, Peterborough.
No, that an urban myth. Most likely derived from Romani posh (“half”), either because posh-kooroona (“half a crown”) (originally a substantial sum of money) was used metaphorically for anything pricey or upper-class, or because posh-houri (“half-penny”) became a general term for money.
@@botticellirejectbotticelli2668 "Most likely" (your words) means you don't know either !
@@johnnosiennek7066 Me personally, no. Historians and language scholars do though. They all know it isn’t anything to do with shipping. Posh was being used way before passenger ships were even a thing.
Spencer, your "draft" was perfect Scottish. Well done mate!!
POSH, means a moneyed snob, yes. Comes from: "Port Out - Starboard Home.
When booking a cabin on a cruise those were the desirable cabins and only wealthy people could afford them. On the booking papers it would be the acronym P.O.S.H - indicating which cabin had been booked.
A bit like in America where the derogatory term WOP for an Italian immigrant comes from "With Out Papers" on their official documents.
Wow! Thanks for sharing that. I didn't know about the P.O.S.H. acronym. Every day's a school day! :)
Originally derived from old British colonial days - in India - on the troop ships from UK to India & vice versa. The high ranking army personell would be given cabins which did not get the heat of the sun - Port(side) Out, Starboard Home
Not true. Most likely derived from Romani posh (“half”), either because posh-kooroona (“half a crown”) (originally a substantial sum of money) was used metaphorically for anything pricey or upper-class, or because posh-houri (“half-penny”) became a general term for money.

Regardless... you guys rock!!
Great video! You should look up Catherine Tate's Georgie Character. Also her Detective Character!
Drunk bride…..one of the best Catherine Tate sketch.
I'm crying laughing.
Mitchell and Webb-Snooker commentators.
Absolutely brilliant.
I kid you not here guys, but I know a man who is a director of drama at an elite high school in Melbourne Australia. This man was directing the school presentation of Les Miserables. One of the cast students had to perform with a broom as a prop... his question to the director was "so, how does this thing work?"
My favorite Catherine Tate skits are the ones where she plays an annoying coworker, I definitely recommend those!
The middle-class mum is not even the uber rich in the UK.
My mum went to school with Catherine and it was highly selective on ability. The plus side was that girls from a working class families (such as Catherine's whose mother was single and on her own, and my mother's whose world crumbled when her father was left disabled and unable to work) were able to receive the education that their ability deserved but their parents could not afford.
That did mean that they were mixing with girls whose mothers were very much like this. Women who had been privately educated to find rich husbands and have nannies and au pairs looking after their children, pets and homes to the point that they themselves were thoroughly clueless and useless.
The sad thing is, a fair number of kids nowadays are sent to school in taxis, and many do now have mobile phones.
Don't know any kid without a mobile phone but don't know any kid who catches a taxi to school.
Catherine Tate - Derek the Gay man was her best character
Catherine Tate on the graham Norton show
Catherine Taits Derek is a must.
Catherine Tate has another character called Derek - VERY well worth checking out !!.
You need to do Catherine Tate Posh mum - Northern Nanny & the sports day 😂😂
Catch her in Dr Who as Donna Noble
POSH refers to upper class people in the UK. It's actually an acronym from the days of the British Raj in India. On the steam ships from the UK to India and back, the more privileged passemgers were given cabins on the side of the ship that was out of the sun. So they'd be berthed on the North side of the ship on both journeys. To this end, their luggage was stamped with the acromym: P.O.S.H standing for "Port Outward, Starboard Home."
They know... The first thing they said is "posh refers to the upper class"
You must look for Katherine Tate's "Lauren"...hilarious
.
I have a sister in law in London like that.
Also I know a French girl who au paired in California and worked for a wealthy family who were awful....snobby parents, spoilt children. I could write a book on what she told me.
If you like Cathrine Tate, you should check out Tracy Ullmen. Her to characters are Ruby Romane, Vern Rosenthal, and The queen. She did an updated version with Judi Dench, Duchess Camilla, and Maggy Smith.
my wife worked as a nanny for posh people, she could tell you a tale or two
Posh is an acronym for Port out, Starboard home. Back in the days of Empire when everyone travelled by ship the most desirable (and therefore most expensive) cabins were those with the more shaded and interesting view of the coast rather than just the ocean. Port is the left hand side and starboard the right. It has come to describe people who have money, if not always good taste.
Here endeth the lesson.🥂😄
Your lesson is wrong though, although it is what a lot of people believe.
😜It is more likely derived from Romani posh (“half”), either because posh-kooroona (“half a crown”) (originally a substantial sum of money) was used metaphorically for anything pricey or upper-class, or because posh-houri (“half-penny”) became a general term for money.
There's a great character with her working in an office
The American version would have been Don Jr and Ivanka as kids growing up with their DADDY and MUM.
You guys should check Cathrine Tate doing Derek it is soooo funny :D
at Manchester Utd they have a designated Dyson emptier
"Y,all the ones with the accents" ,hate to be the one to lay it on you boys but you have accents too! , especially the brother with the beard!
I grew up in a working class estate worked in sweets shops my granda worked in shorts an aircraft factory in Belfast where I live . Us pilots are common as muck flew my girlfriend in a cessna 172 did wee stunts with her
Posh people running out of Olive oil is like a Nigerian family running out of hot pepper....
You guys should watch BOTTOM LIVE Bloopers. Hardest try not to laugh challenge ever.
Catherine Tate Show. Derek is a must for you guys x
Yes absolutely agree. Derek is a brilliant character. Who dear, me dear, no dear.🤣
How VERY dare you!
Hiding the Sausage lol.
It's called irony, us Brit's always say Americans don't laugh at irony
YOU WILL LOVE Harry Enfield. Women know your limits. Come on Guys!

Posh stands for Port Out, Starboard Home. A posh ticket to travel to America from the UK would allow you to be on the Port side of the ship on the way to America, and the Starboard side on the way home, maximising direct sun into your cabin on the ship.
No, it doesn’t. Most likely derived from Romani posh (“half”), either because posh-kooroona (“half a crown”) (originally a substantial sum of money) was used metaphorically for anything pricey or upper-class, or because posh-houri (“half-penny”) became a general term for money.
the one when they have a "northerner"come into their home is proper funny
You haven't lived till you see her do Derek !
I can genuinely say that where I grew up no one sounded or acted like this lot!
I love this Catherine and her posh kids it’s like you said these kind of people don’t do anything for themselves and Catherine is just showing how the other half live and my accent is definitely not like that please react to Catherine being the school girl Loran Cooper Love 💕 from Denise in Yorkshire England 🏴😂😂🤣🤣👏👏👏👍👋
you really need to react to Posh family Northern nanny
Tongue in cheek comedy just British humour. Most people don’t have that accent.
not sure if you have reacted to her drunk bride sketch yet, so funny
Look up Catherine Tate on Graham Norton with Tom cruise and she explains where she found Nan
You need to react to the Lauren and Derek sketches!
POSH......Port Out, Starboard Home.
This is allegedly where the word ‘posh’ comes from. Apparently upper class folks travelled outbound on the port side of the boat / ship for the sun, and again on the return journey on the starboard side for the same type of weather.
Most likely derived from Romani posh (“half”), either because posh-kooroona (“half a crown”) (originally a substantial sum of money) was used metaphorically for anything pricey or upper-class, or because posh-houri (“half-penny”) became a general term for money.
Catherine Tate “Lauren “
You get these types of people who live in areas in London like Chelsea, Kensington, West Brompton
Try 'Our Johns a gay man now'.Funny as hell
Not sure whether this will actually be understood by Americans..Like the one guy states..'It's just an egg!!!'...THAT IS THE WHOLE POINT...English humour is very, very different to American humour...Americans take things too literallly!!...NUANCE is EVERYTHING!!
Having said that I do think they should watch 'ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS ' as the humour is sooo Overt as to be understood by the most literal of people...❤
ooo how the other half live lol
You so need to watch gimme gimme gimme one of the best TV shows 💯%
I wonder if embracethesuck21 knows that Catherine Tate is in The Office (The US one)
It’s upper middle class snobbery, it’s all about the money you earn.
They already have the money, largely by birth, but the snobbery vocomes out in finding the most expensive ways to do everything and the most expensive places to live and visit so they can avoid ordinary people and imagine they're normal, except better.
@@patrickholt2270 Some people in my family ( working class), married into very very wealthy families, they had nannies, skiing holidays ( winter holidays) public schools for their kids and totally live the upper middle class life, then a few have become upper middle class through their jobs, their kids have a totally different life to the working class life their parents had, and live in the most expensive parts of the country. A few have totally tried to pretend they didn’t grow up where they did, it’s laughable because we all know!
