There was a newspaper story about a translator in Dover, in England, the main ferry port to France, about a decade back. An elderly German visitor had ended up in the town court for some crime, and it became very quickly apparent that he spoke little or no English. The judge asked if anyone in the public gallery spoke German. A young guy said he did, and was brought to the front of the court. The judge asked the 'translator' to first ask the defendant his name. "Vot iss your name, schweine!" was the shouted response.
The 'translator' was sentenced to a few days in prison for contempt of court, and the case was adjourned until a proper translator could be located.

@votejj so what happens to people like me, and everybody I know, who laugh with and at other races? All my white friends make jokes about me, and me and my friends do the same to them. Tge only people I see taking offence are people with a political agenda, or virtue signalling white people. Of course we don't want racism, but we also want people to be able to make TV like this, in which many races or nationalities are teased. In fact, in this clip it is the British who are teased the most. Catherine Tate takes the Mickey out of how sure the interpretor is of her skills, while making a massive fool of herself. If that were a real situation, everybody in the room would have laughed at her. You couldn't make tv like this today, though, and that is why tv is so shit. Funny stuff is always controversial.

You guys need to get onto Micky Flanagan, a few good places to start would be ‘lazy French’ , ‘Americans just don’t get it’, ‘the shits abroad’ and ‘peeping’

She has many great characters. One of my favourites is when she plays a mouthy teenager. The Catherine Tate Show. Several seasons. Dr Who David Tennant. She was or they were particularly hilarious on the Adipose episode, where they haven't seen eachother for ages, and are suddenly thrown together again unexpectedly. 😋
