Ariel Rider Kepler with 40 AH dual battery (2080 WH)

- I added 2nd battery , 52v 20 AH battery to the bike using FBC ( fusion battery combiner ), no cutting or messing with controller wires, all xt60 hooking up and rerouting to FBC and batteries, using xt60 extension 14 awg wires.
Working great! No more range anxiety, dual battery is the way to go!

Edit: 3 months later, and I went ahead with a second battery placement, and Wow! Definitely Recommended. Should have did it sooner.

Great video. I was about to do the same to my kepler but I did not want extra wires all over my kepler. Lucky for after searching for days I found the exactly same 52v 20ah battery. Now I have 2 batteries and would rather just swap when first battery is low.
Swapping is good but you won’t have strong torque and range as good as dual battery. Also single swap creates more heat on single battery vs dual which is less stressed and is cooler temp when used in parallel
This might be one of the best upgrade I've seen for a ebike nice job..btw what's the top speed of this bike out the box?(stock)

Nice Neat Set Up MrMtr999, I just spent a week researching the interwebs & YT and I just ordered a blue low bar Kepler for myself after what so many people are saying how you can't go wrong buying one. 25 - 35 miles range is enough but if I was going on a special trip what to do for longer range? Now I know, thank you sir.

Top speed 36 mph but the RANGE is insane, commuting 28 miles only took 20% off 100% charge @ 15-35 mph according to traffic

Just got mine finally on Friday and after I took it through the steep hills in the area I was like...yup, definitely going to want to run dual batteries on this thing lol. Glad someone else was able to dig into this before I managed to mess up all my wiring trying to figure it out myself. lol
@@DnSAdventures no cutting or splicing, everything is xt60 and ext60 extension 14awg wire to reroute and connect. If you cut a single wire on the bike that is wrong.
You used the caps to tie in the spare battery to an extension wire with an xt60 plug? Maybe you did that to not need to solder and shrink wrap for the time being.
Yes, it works great so far and i have not changed them since July. I never soldered. I found caps are more practical and they never failed.
Would love for this to be in tutorial format. how are you pulling the connections from out of the frame? How do you avoid causing any damage? Just got my Kepler and I absolutely love it, the extra range would be an absolute dream if i can get it

Is it OK to have your battery brand or covered up with the waterproofing do they not need to be in the air to stay cool

how far you think you can go with that set up if you do PAS1-3? where did you get that battery?
50 miles ish no anxiety, I got it from UPP.

@@emaguigad if you want 60-80 miles range you have to go Pas1 and little throttle, pas1 topping 21 mph on the Kepler, and keep pedaling that speed you will go far far. 21-22 mph that is fast enough to reach destination in no time fie ebikes. I know cause i have it. Ebike any ebike going 30 mph or above throughout is not safe, imho you need steel frame or body like onyx or motorcycle to sustain that speed throughout feeling safe. Any mistake @30 mph will break your bones and be very dangerous if the bike fail or snap. It is just my experience. Everybody is different, i know. Good luck.
Wouldn’t it be easier to just plug in the second battery as necessary when riding? If the first one gets low, stop and replace it with the alternate one.
You can do that way too if you like carrying 2 nd battery around every time you ride and swapping every time you ride. It is preference and less burden/heat on one battery when riding 30 mph mostly. Nothing wrong doing swap if you are fine with carry them.

Get it from UPP directly no amazon. So far so good, everything goes well.
i ordered an aluminum chassis box to put my 2nd battery in. it's 12"x8"x3". i'ts pretty low profile at 3 inches and should be more than strong enough to support the weight of a storage bag on top of it. it should be big enough to hold the battery, wires and a little padding to hold it in place. also, if your seat is high enough you can mount it on the rack with the box pushed almost to the seat post. i plan to paint it flat black first. i'll post a link to the box in the comments of this.

the cover is sold separate but it shows it to you if you scroll down a little.
What do you plan to cover it when there are rain or snow? It does not seem waterproof. Unless it comes with PU rain cover too. Also, the battery should not be bouncing around in the box, it will degrade or damage its BMS panel, it has to be tight or fixed similar to downtube battery or rear rack battery, no movement or play. I use 2 real rubber straps to hold my bag with Kepler rear rack with padded foam inside, no movement or bounces, besides PU rain cover that comes with the bag. Just saying. Good luck on the project, well worth it. Keep us posted.

This may be a dumb question, but would you be willing to do a tutorial on this? I want to add a second battery to my kepler as well but im worries about breaking something when I start disconnecting the wires from the stock battery and controller. Is it as simple as unplugging it from one thing and plugging into another? Thank you.
Yes, it is plug and play, no cutting wire not a single wire on Kepler. If you cut a wire on the bike you did it wrong. I probably have to do a video on this setup soon, so many people asked. I will try to post new video when I have time off from work and life. Thanks for watching.

You should do a range test on throttle only
With 40 ah @52 v or 2080 WH, you can go 80 miles distance @20 mph easily. So with full throttle only which is a lot faster than 20 mph, i would guess 60-70 miles depending how aggressive riding is. I might do video on that if i have time, but the math already tells you the answer. Thank you for watching.

What is optimal wire lengths for each XT60 segments, to avoid the twist connections.. from 1 - spare battery to FBC 2. from FBC to controller?
The xt60 wires are listed in description, you can buy 2-3-4 set, I did not cut or measure them, you can use them together connected to go as many feet as you wanted. On Kepler I just used to extend from controller and battery. I did not cut any single wire, fyi. You have to DIY and figure how you want for the length.

If you are atheletic yes, no problem, but low step model is a lot easier to get on and get off.
This Bafang motor is supposed to have a 1800w peak. What's been the peak wattage you've experienced? Watched a video where, on a 18% grade the Kepler slowed to 8mph peaking at 1300w, throttle only.
Inside are plastic planetary gears, not metal gears! There are few owners already need to replace gears so i din’t expect much out of it! Ride conservatively as an ebike, go like mid 20 mph, avoid severe hills or walk it up. Don’t throttle it and expect much, it will last otherwise you will need to replace inside gears very quick. My 2 cents

from FBC site: "The FBC isolates the batteries from each other; they are never electrically connected between them. In light of that they do not charge together, and will require separate charging."
@@vpham92688 i have separate chargers fir the battery, each one has its own charger, different manufacturers. That is why i use FBC blender, no need for identical battery when paralleled.

You can search, but i know the battery Kepler uses is called Reention Kirin 7 model. I don’t think you will get any battery from Ariel Rider, i saw some 17.5 ah for Kirin but not 20 ah.
I just asked Ariel Rider yesterday and they said the following: "We will most likely release batteries for sale in late summer for around $600. "
So a bit more expensive than aftermarket 52v 20ah batteries, but I imagine they will have a better warranty than something we can buy off amazon. Still debating which way to go myself. :) - Shane

@@DnSAdventures im debating as well as far as which way to go. If you add an aftermarket battery our warranty will be NG on electrical componets so there is a big risk. Thank you for that information.

I'm real close to pulling the trigger on the same design you went with, just have to measure to make sure I can still do everything else I was planning on doing with the bike as well. Probably end up towing a small cart behind for extra storage if the battery takes up too much room on the rear rack (if I go that route).

No, i took the wire and xt60 out from the frame at the bottom of the bracket. I tape battery for rain proof

@@toneighty6913 you don’t disconnect anything when charging, each battery has its charger. When done charging, disconnect charging ports and go ride. That is all.

@@toneighty6913 eventually you have to, you will find that one battery won’t last long on aggressive ride like 26-33 mph all the time, juice gone fast. Once 2 battery it is a lot stable on percentage. I love it. Very easy to do on Kepler it is all xt60 no cutting or splicing with controller wires

Question. Why is your battery all taped up with black tape?
Hi, it is shipping damage, the plastic locking tab broke off, could not close tightly, the electrical tape works but i used a bundle on it. The replacement battery takes 6 months or longer from China and Ariel Rider don’t have any spare in stock. So be cautious on this subject. Kepler uses Reention Kirin 7 type, you can find 3rd party and swap out if so. Also the tape protects against the rain pretty well from experience. Thanks for watching 🙏

Without mod i have to be carefully on speed not much of 30ish but with mod i can ride free night time home and only take 20% off the full charge round trip! You will see huge difference in battery stability and percentage besides you can ride fast or slow without range anxiety. It is day and night. Sir
