  • The bike has 1172 miles but it has dry sound on the motor, so as part of maintenance, i decided to do re-greasing the Hub motor.
    Same can be done on other gear hub motor of any ebike.

    This looks like the lack of grease from the manufacturer🤷‍♂️

      May be you have to regrease it too! You never know how dry inside. Wired has the same style, so same procedure and their axle nut also 21 mm !

    Very good video. It makes me wonder if all the Kepler Motors are going to be dry like this. I have about 450 miles on mine, and it's still quiet but this is something I will be looking out for. Thank you for making this video. You made it look easy.

    • @MrMtr999
      @MrMtr999  Před rokem +2

      It is easy for real! Yeah i was surprised to see the inside was dry like that, that when noise started. Winter temperature likely dried stuff up inside. The plastic gears are still fine but if none of grease comes in the mechanism will fail sooner. Thanks for watching !

      I'm not sure if it's a unwritten rule but it should be done on all hub motors every 1000 miles. This is not odd at all & totally normal. Take care of your equipment & it will take care of you. Enjoy The Ride.

      @@vanlifebiker where did you find that rule? I have never heard of, i heard 2000 miles to start but if problem comes early then do it earlier. Some motors like RAD have almost 10,000 miles without regreasing! Anyway thanks for commenting and watching:)

      @@MrMtr999 I'm not sure but of course more expensive brands probably use better quality parts & materials. These bikes are ALOT for what you get for $2000 range & they need to cut costs somewhere. I know another youtuber regreased his Kepler at 1000 miles as well & I just watched the video yesterday. Now that you have done it personally & you know that it's done right it might go 10,000 miles hopefully. Personally I don't think it's alot of trouble to do it every 1000 miles to make sure it's in great working order. Everyone is different in maintenance but I do find it funny you were just over 1000 miles & you starting hearing the noise. Hearing noise is causing damage & to late so maybe it is 1000 miles. 🤷‍♂️
      Enjoy The Ride.

      It was mass production to meet shipping dateline, they put very thin layer on it, there was no time for thorough work in factory for mass production. I think Wired motor will outlast Kepler bafang for sure

    Great video my friend & I was convinced to purchase the Wicked Freedom after your review. They have already changed names however & it's Wired Freedom now which concerns me. I think I'm gonna go with the Ariel Rider (Kepler) considering they have been around awhile. You did great as usual on this video too & this process should be done every 1000 miles. However the Freedom bike you just purchased should have steel gears & might last a bit longer but I would do it anyway at 1000 miles. Personally I would maybe consider using a marine grade bearing grease instead on steel. Example it's alot thicker (heat resistant) & blue in color used on boat trailer bearings because they are submerged into water too. Keep up the video's & more on the Freedom bike because I'm still undecided. I will probably order one or the other this month thanks to you.
    Enjoy The Ride.

      I prefer Wired Cruiser/Freedom to Kepler ! Wired bikes are bombs! They rocket and very well balanced and very easy to mod! The only downside is their small rack but it is okay. Kepler is great but a lot of new and better bikes are coming out starting with Wired… it is up to your preference and money. Kepler can’t match Wired power that is all i can say. Thanks again

      @@MrMtr999 Totally agree thanks to your review I watched that turned me on to doing a little research on Wired Freedom. The money isn't the problem to me especially considering it's only a hundred or two more for ALOT more product. My question is if they are changing company names already it concerns me on getting parts in the future. A few more mph doesn't concern me either if I can't get parts for a faster bike that's broke. I hope this makes sense. I'm totally sold on the Freedom bike vs the Kepler but Ariel Riders company has been around alot longer. Longer in business may make the difference in staying in business in the future. Our economy isn't doing so well & anyone wouldn't want to throw $2k out the window on a bike from a company that might not be around next year. Especially the first E-Bike ever purchased. Amazon is full of bikes for under $1k but once again no parts possibly next year. I just want to make a smart decision with no regrets hints why I research research research before I purchase. Thanks for your response & your videos I'm taking in account.

      @@vanlifebiker you can not get parts from Ariel Rider either! All ebikes sold in the US are from China. I know KT controller are good, they are similar to Sabvoton and they are easier to find from KT on aliexpress. All Kepler parts are proprietary only from AR. New or old ebike companies here are in the same boat cause all their products are from China. There is no difference in them except willingness to reply to your problems faster.

    Hi Mr 9 thanks for the video on re greasing hub motor. Did this solve the the noise when giving throttle? I have a 600 mile grizzly with similar noise. Thanks in advance

    • @MrMtr999
      @MrMtr999  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Thanks for watching! Yes it solves the noise problem but you need to make sure you really grease it thick. I have used different brands of grease but i found Walmart made brand to be most effective. A can cost like $ 6-7, all purpose car grease from walmart. You can use other expensive grease but it does not hold like walmart stuff. If you ride in a lot of rain and snow, definitely regrease it fir sure. Factory grease has like 0 left after you ride about 1000 miles. Good luck

  • @jfly2249
    @jfly2249 Před rokem

    Having taken apart both the Kepler motor and the Wicked motor, can you tell which motor would last longer without any maintenance? I suspect many owners will never do this procedure themselves as many are not mechanically inclined or are too old to physically perform the service. Also, many e bike owners are unaware of the maintenance required.

    • @MrMtr999
      @MrMtr999  Před rokem +1

      Wired motor, they have metal plate and plastic mixed in, once greased thoroughly it will last up in 10,000 or mire miles. Kepler use plastic planetary gears that can chew up any time but also easier to find bafang planetary plastic gears to replace. There are already a few Kepler owners that have chewed up planetary gears and bought replacement parts to replace the chewed up gears. Get the wired bike if you want longer life but it need some fine tuning on setting to make it last long time. The key if you don’t rip or take off like tom cruise in movies, but ride in the mid 20 mph mostly. Wired will last longer fir sure. My 2 cents. Thanks fir watching

      @@MrMtr999 Thank you for the reply. I bought the Wired Freedom, in part because of your videos. I thought the Hengtai motor was superior with the hybrid gears and could handle the power (I can pull almost 2500 watts going up a hill). I set the C5 to 1 which provides a smooth start and apparently is good for the motor. Thanks again for your videos.

    What Freewheel removal tool do you need for the Kepler? I assume I'll need one.

    • @MrMtr999
      @MrMtr999  Před rokem

      You don’t have to remove freewheel on Kepler, it is on the opposite side of 3 mm hex bolts and hub cover . Just use a normal freewheel/ cassette bicycle wrench to loosen it if you want to replace it
